Not very busy and shown a good table quickly observing all the covid rules.Friendly staff and orders taken ,but a very long wait.Food finally arrived with apologies for the very long delay and it was good. But I'm heartily sick of very poor service and given the excuse of covid. When will people realise that they're lucky to have any customers During this time.Wake up and give proper service or you will all be out of work.
We try to visit Wykeham Arms every time we are in Winchester. Friday night was our first visit to the mainland since before the Lock down kicked in. A very big thank you to all the staff, we felt very safe and well looked after. The food as always was wonderful. The breakfast is superb, all fresh produce home cooked. Our room was excellent, we couldn't fault anything. Well done to all the staff in these very troubled times. Thank you.
My wife and I spent two nights at the Wykeham for our 47th Wedding Anniversary. We booked a suite and were allocated the Nelson room which is on the 1st floor and overlooks the side street overlooking the annex/tearoom that is also part of the hotel and has a number of alternative rooms. The room was well appointed, but due to covid restrictions the four poster bed was devoid of drapes! Large flat screen TV. Heating via a conventional radiator and en suite full bathroom with good bath and shower accessed through a double door with frosted glass doors. Amenity tray with tea/coffee and a nice nespresso unit with selection of pods. Small wall mounted fridge with jug of fresh milk and bottled water. Bathroom has decent towels and selection of soap etc in dispenser bottles. Ironing board and iron. Writing desk. Everything completely clean. Bath robe not in room but available on request. Conventional key entry to room. Note that this is an old building and requires negotiating stairs and corridors. Do not expect a lift. There is a small car park for residents only and at times this can get quite full so you may have to plan if you require you vehicle during your stay. Remember that the premises is in the old town adjacent to the cathedral close with narrow streets. This is part of what makes it special! Service at the Wykeham is very good. the staff are great. Food is very good and there is a very good bar in stock and atmosphere. At present a very good effort to maintain the special nature of the place during challenging times. The Wykeham is a gem!…
We stayed for 1 night last Friday for a treat for me and my wife. The whole experience was brilliant! The room was done so well, with the wow factor of a bath tub in the room and old features in the room and bathroom. The quirkiness of the building was really cool and felt relaxing and traditional in the surroundings, both the room and the pub area. We had dinner in the evening after a short walk around the cathedral which was delicious and service was very good. We slept very well and then had a very filling and tasty breakfast in the morning to cap off the stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone, both for staying and food, and would come back any time. Thanks very much!
The Wykeham Arms is the number one choice to stay if possible in Winchester. Nearly always fully booked as it’s so popular, it’s a privilege to get a room - yay ! When we do :) Very central and close to the college and cathedral, with quirky decor and lovely rooms. The staff are amazing and super helpful. Food is perfect including the breakfast, and it has a great atmosphere all year round. The Wykeham Arms fits in perfectly with Winchesters character and history. A “must” place to stay, or visit.
