We visited for a night, didn't really know what to expect having never been to the new forest. We had an amazing time. The campsite was beautiful. We camped backing on to the woods...we saw so much wildlife. The managers Jean and Terri were fantastic...so kind..and more than happy to help. We hired bikes from 'trax ' who delivered them...

My girlfriend and I visited over the Easter weekend, we were expecting some pretty wet weather but nothing like the storm that kept us awake on the Sunday night and into Monday morning. Torrential rain, howling winds, the lot!!.. The campsite was already fairly wet and soon became pooled with rainwater in many areas. We were told in advance by...

We booked this as a first family holiday. We took are mountain bikes as we had heard it had good cycling trails. As soon as we got to site to book in we had camp manager terry to welcome us. There is a pub in walking distance of campsite and a town 30 min drive away. Cycling trails are awesome...

This was by far the best campsite of our holiday. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, with good knowledge of the local area. The facilities are spacious, clean, and maintained to a good standard. The pitch area is lovely, flat and with adequate drainage incase of rain. All in all this was a wonderful place, my only regret...

Stayed here in our van for a few nights during the school holidays, we were greeted by a very strict and very rude member of staff. He came out of his hut pointing his finger at us like we were criminals,we joked among ourselves that maybe he was having a bad day so went through the rules with him and...

My friend and I stayed here over August Bank Holiday and found the site to be exactly what we needed, spacious, wild horses roaming, quite and located near pubs, shops and plenty of amenities. It's reasonably priced and the staff are always accommodating. The shower block, along with washing up facilities etc are cleaned regularly and you always see staff...

This wasn’t my first visit to the New Forest but it was my initial foray into camping in the area. We chose this campsite because my girlfriend had stayed in it previously and it was close to several popular areas. The campsite itself is pleasant, large, grassy and with plenty of trees. There is a large central toilet and shower...

I have spent many nights over the last six months at Ashurst. I am pleased to report that the site is as wonderful as ever. The Forestry Commission have moved the boundaries for tents which I understand has caused some confusion for 'old regulars', it isn't down to the new management though. Terry and his team uphold the high standards...

Myself and my wife stayed for 3 nights over 21/8/2015 till 23/8/2015. Then myself, wife, children and granchildren spent 1 night on 30/8/2015. On our first weekend at Ashurst I found the staff friendly and approachable. The toilet and shower block was as clean and modern as any site I have visted. A really peaceful site sitting on the edge...

It had been 20 years since I came here and it was like stepping back in time! The good points: very clean loos, showers, washing up areas but it's a bit of a nuisance to have an access code to use them. The 6 metre rule is enforced. Fortunately one of our group had brought a measuring tape....we needed it....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Perfect for seasoned or novice campers, this beautiful campsite is set in a woodland glade, surrounded by the majesty of ancient oak trees. Set on the edge of a small area of woodland known as Ashurst Wood, the wood opens up onto Matley Heath, an expanse of New Forest heathland criss-crossed with tracks ideal for walking or cycling. With countless direct routes into the unique New Forest environment via cycle and footpaths, this is a perfect base for exploring local flora and fauna. From the sanctuary of your tent you may be lucky enough to spot deer during quieter times and see the famous New Forest and Shetland ponies roaming freely. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed, however guide dogs are. There is also no electricity, however, there are toilets, a refurbished shower block and a launderette. ... more   less
