Excellent location for the New Forest. Walked to Burley using OS map, some lovely walks from here. Site can be a bit busy and some campers do not always adhere to the 10:30pm quiet time and a few campers kept us up until late. Nor do they adhere to the 6 meter distance from your tent - but if you're... More

Great site with lots of space, although does get busy in high season especially around bank holidays. Facilities are regularly cleaned and well maintained, nice well stocked shop, fresh baked bread available, great friendly staff.

A great location for beaches and forest, clean and accessible showers and loos, a great shop and a takeaway. What more could we have asked for? We have been to Holmsley twice now and both times have found a good pitch right on the edge of the trees, where the kids spend hours building dens! We will be back.

This is my 3rd stay at this campsite. Each time we have had a good stay. This year the takeaway has been open for longer hours during the day, really useful for a bite to eat if you get hungry whilst on site. Toilet blocks were as clean as could be considering the lovely rain! Only downside was the hand... More

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon for a brief 2 night stay, it appeared that there had large exodus from the weekend so places to put down were well available. We had booked a small site with no electric hook up so we're more than happy with the site that felt like we were camping in the forest, even though... More

Second year of staying at this campsite, first year was great this time not so much! People pitched their caravans within 2 metres of us and blocked us in, with no space to park our car! The caravans parked opposite us again within 2 metres were so noisy up until 12 at night, it was very busy! Showers are left... More

We camped for three nights with two more families and had a great time. The fact that pitches are not delineated allowed us to set as we wished staying together but not packed together. Services at the campsite are very good, clean toilets and showers, hot water all day long, washing up areas practical. Highly recommend this site, lots of... More

This is the worst campsite that I have been to in UK! Vast area, packed with tents and caravans side by side. No private space or peace or relax. Plus smelly and dirty toilets (3 blocks serving 600 pitches). Absolutely horrible. Never again.

Wow, what can I say, attentive staff, beautiful site, spacious, clean facilities, views to die for, walks to die for, beaches close by and picture card villages to visit. Roll on August 2017! The staff are continually monitoring the site for any issues, very firm but also very friendly. This is a fantastic base from which to explore the New... More

This is a large well appointed campsite with friendly staff, good facilities and spacious pitches. Choose your own spot without hindrance. Wild ponies and cows all around the boundaries. This is the heart of the New Forest. Unfortunately there are down points as well, which may or may not spoil your stay. There are many children and they do run... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Holmsley is a campsite steeped in history. Occupying part of what used to be Holmsley Airfield in the Second World War, it is one of 12 wartime airfields and Advanced Landing Grounds in the New Forest. Indeed, the aircraft hard standings and taxiways are now the campsite roads and parking spots! The site is predominantly grass, meaning there is a lot of space for the children to play. It also offers direct access to forest walks and safe cycling tracks; ideal for exploring the local flora and fauna with the whole family. Onsite there is a fully equipped shop that sells a wide range of groceries, camping essentials and games to ensure that your holiday runs as smoothly as possible. There is also an excellent take away; perfect after a busy day exploring the forest and when you want to put your feet up in your tent and relax. Opening time will vary throughout the season. Next to the site there is a large heathland which is fantastic for a spot of nature watching. Free-roaming ponies, cattle and deer are frequent visitors, and you might see squirrels, badgers and foxes if you are lucky. New Forest woodlands are thought by the locals to be at their very best in the autumn, during the annual Pannage season. At this time the forest turns crimson and gold and echoes to the sound of rutting deer. Holmsley is close to several stunning beaches including Barton on Sea, with Bournemouth and Poole just a drive away. Premium pitches are available onsite, and there are also toilets, showers and a launderette available. Please remember to bring your rock pegs for this site. Due to the low level of lighting campers must pitch up before dark. Pitch types at Holmsley There are 600 pitches at Holmsley, made up of standard and premium pitch types. This campsite also have space to take RV units. ... more   less
