I understand this guest house has now changed hands since most of the reviews including my own, so no idea whether it is as good as it was when I wrote my review. Hope so although I think it is being reconverted into a private residence

Lovely little house, perfect for the night. Plenty of beds & nice outdoor area. Cold evening but enough heat throughout the night. Great location not far from the seafront & sights. Would definately recommend for visiting the area & would return

We stayed for three nights in the Cooper Room in September. Both Sian and Mark were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room had everything we could wish for and the location was excellent for exploring Southsea and Portsmouth. One of the best B&B's we have stayed in.

Stayed 3 days in August for a wedding. Excellent location for us. Excellent breakfast. Really friendly and helpful hosts. Best B&B we've stayed in. So much nicer than hotels. We parked outside and just left our car and walked everywhere.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Franklin Room. Beautiful large room with everything you could need. Very comfortable large bed, quiet room, no road noise. Breakfast is lovely, fresh fruit plates and cooked breakfast. All very delicious. With only 4 rooms and no children allowed it is a lovely and peaceful place to get away from it all. The... More

My wife and I stayed one night in June. Warmly welcomed by Sian into a glorious house, well restored while retaining in original character. We stayed in the Emanuel Suite: very large and comfortable, as was its bath. Though near a traveled road there was no road noise issue at all. Notable modern conveniences include motion-detecting lighting in hallways. Mark... More

Tucked away off the main streets this quality guest house has great character and not the corporate 'box size' bedrooms. the property oozes charm and the owners are very knowledgeable and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. With only 4 rooms (all large) there is no fighting for breakfast and everything is cooked to order and as you like. It's... More

We stayed for 3 nights in the Cooper Room. Although smaller than I had anticpated it was clean and pleasantly decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable. Mark and Sian are wonderful hosts and Mark makes the perfect omelette, the full english breakfast was equally as tasty in the light and bright breakfast room. We really enjoyed our stay and there... Stayed at The Retreat for one night and had a warm welcome from Mark. The house is interesting and decorated beautifully. The Emmanuel is large and comfortable with a very comfortable bed and a good sized shower. Remember to go to the A Bar for dinner. Thanks for your hospitality Mark

This is the third time we have stayed in Mark and Sian's lovely house over the past few years doing the Great South Run. This year we even booked our room before getting our places as there was no way I was running 10 miles without staying at The Retreat. Mark and Sian are fantastic hosts and nothing is too... More
