Stay was average, rooms ok (paintings on the wall freaked me out) but communal areas need an update. Get some money spent on the place to justify the mighty cost along with the measure facilities, these are also a bit dated and not what I’m used to.

When i booked online via marriott website i asked to have a travel cot in the room ready 4 when we checked in. When we was finally allowed to check into our room at 2pm the travel cot wasnt there, 3 times my husband went to reception and asked for it to be put in the room now as we need to get our baby down for a nap half hour later and 3 visits to reception still no cot so we had to get our distressed baby 2 sleep wothout a cot. . WheWhen i booked online via marriott website i also asked to have a travel cot in the room . When we was finally allowed to check in2 r room at 2pm the travel cot wasnt there, 3 times my husband went 2 reception and asked 4 it 2 b put in the room now as we need 2 get r baby down 4 a nap half hour later and 3 visits 2 reception still no cot so having 2 get r distressed baby 2 sleep wothout a cot. When we sat down for lunch we were given a broken highchair. Around 5pm when my husband went back to our room the travel cot was finally there, considering how many members of staff there were its appauling how slow it was to get it In the evening i needed to get a bottle of milk warmed up for my son and i asked the man working on the bar for boiling water t heat it up and he put it to one side and said he will do it in a minute and serve the other lady 1st. 10mins later im still waiting for the boiling water and he has served around 5 people in that time. If i was buying a drink for myself i would have been served there and then but again we werent important enough 2 get what we had asked for. When we checked out we did complain to the receptionist about our appauling experience at this marriott hotel and she wrote down all of our details and asked when would be best to recieve a call etc and we still have not heard anything back from the management team and its been nearly two weeks. The hotel is lovely and great facilities but the staff do not look after the guests especially when it cost us alot of money aswell. Definitly wont be staying at that marriott ever again. n we sat down 4 the meal the high chair was broken but a lady that helped out with the wedding and served food changed it straight away and bought our sons starter out 1st as he was tired and hungry. . Stayed here overnight whilst on business near Portsmouth. Hotel is a good size and well decorated. Generally it is what you would expect if you are familiar with other Marriott hotels. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Hotel has a good sized bar with large TVs and a good restaurant which served a wide range of options for breakfast. It includes a large indoor swimming pool which seemed to be open to the public and had a good selection of rooms and facilities for business events etc. There was ample car parking but remember to register you car number plate when you check in. Rooms were clean and tidy and a reasonable size and include all usual amenities. WIFI was easy to connect to. As I had their loyalty card I got free access to this at good speed. Gunwharf keys was around 20 minutes away by car in the morning at rush hour.

It's very evident this is an older Marriott as it shows. They have no executive lounge. The pool SPA area is no enclosed so the noise (and screaming children) are heard loudly in the adjacent restaurant / bar. The room was small and felt like a Courtyard. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but were disappointed as it did not live up to our Marriott expectations. We stay 75+ nights a year at various Marriott brands as Titanium Elite members. The staff was great and deserves and A+.

Dear billepierce, Thank you for your review and i am pleased to read that the staff certainly made your stay and then some. We are extremely proud of the efforts of our team to make our guest's stays so memorable. The hotel itself did receive a full refurbishment in the guestrooms, which was completed last year in May. The feedback of the guestroom refurbishment has been extremely positive providing the hotel with the newest guestrooms in the city and larger than most compeititors. Thank you again for your comments and we do hope to host you again the next time your travels bring you to the city. Kindest regards Rob Snaith General Manager

I don’t mind if the hotel is slightly older but what I will not accept is if it’s dirty. The lift normally gives it away, it looked like no one cleaned this one for a while. There were fingerprints on every mirror and I felt the sticky restaurant floor on the bottom of my shoes the very first night. I thought to myself - what would the kitchen be like.. What also struck me was the chlorine smell as you walk in from the outside. Only later did we realised that the indoor pool is within the main lobby area behind a small wall so you can also hear kids screaming and jumping in the water and while you are having your dinner, people walk by you in flip flops and dressing gowns. Awful. The whole set up is a joke since the restaurant is also a bar/lobby/breakfast venue/meeting venue. We waited 1 hour for our soup starter and further 45 min for main. We didn’t bother eating dinner there for the rest of our stay. The breakfast is also very poor for £160 a night. We were seated at the table were there was old food on the floor so asked to be moved. How come no one checks these things..?? Hotel is very tired and worn out especially downstairs. This is a 3 star hotel at a push.

Dear badincanka, My sincerest apologies that your stay was not to your complete satisfaction. The points in your review have been passed onto th eteam and will be actioined where necessary. The design of the lobby is somewhat unique with the open plan, which is certainly a little different to conventional hotels but does provide some charm and indvividuality. Allow me to assure you tha tthe cleanliness of the hotel is one of our service pillars and my apologies that this was not shown during your stay with us. A lack of cleanliness is certainly not atypical of the hotel which can be seen in many customer reviews on this site. Kindest regards
