Travelers' Choice
By journeying through the rolling hills and rural beauty of the Cotswolds, you reach one of the most acclaimed Cotswold luxury hotels. Lords of the Manor is the perfect destination for guests looking for a truly enchanting getaway. A country house experience will always surpass all other Cotswold accommodation. Allowing guests to enjoy a true home away from home during their getaway, the authenticity of taking up residence in a country house, no matter how long for, is what makes a Cotswold stay unforgettable. Privately owned for 17 years, Lords of the Manor has always put guests at the forefront of all that we do. Our team is adept at delivering exceptional service, there is no comparison to other stays you may have had elsewhere. With beautiful feature views of the gardens, the village of Upper Slaughter and the surrounding Cotswolds hills, each of the rooms in our charming Country House Hotel are individually furnished and decorated, making them only space you need during your getaway. Our 17th-century hotel is in the unspoiled Cotswold village of Upper Slaughter, between Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold. The walk between Upper and Lower Slaughter is often called the best short walk in the Cotswolds – it showcases all that is loved most about the area. It’s not difficult to see why we were recently named as the Good Hotel Guide’s best Hotel with Gardens; set in 8 acres of lawns and grandiose gardens, our Cotswold hotel dates back to 1649 and the honey coloured stone of the manor instantly evokes nostalgia for decadent pastimes - without compromising on modern comforts.

We have been to the Lords of the Manor on several occasions now for lunch and have never been disappointed. It is one of our favourite hotels. The rural location and setting is delightful and we are always so well looked after. The food and drink is of a very high standard and quality presented in a highly professional manner and our pre-Christmas lunch was no exception. We felt very relaxed despite covid-19 restrictions being in place as there is plenty of room, being an old style manor house. There was always significant amounts of spacing between the tables in the restaurant in pre-covid days. Our only disappointment whilst we were there, was to hear that the government was to close the hotel yet again - it had only been open for 3 weeks since the last lockdown. My hope for all those involved with the hotel is that once it is allowed to re-open, it never has to close down again owing to government lockdowns.

From our experience we feel this deserves a rating somewhat above 'average' but certainly not 'very good'. We received a warm and professional welcome and the staff were generally very good and helpful. The room was good in which everything worked. Location is great and quiet. Breakfast was excellent. The small past additions were no longer; no canapes with cocktails, no petit-fours with coffee, dinner was just OK which perhaps is perhaps felt to be fine by the denim and T shirt wearing diners who appeared more interested in their phones than their dining experience. A happy visit due largely to the charming staff and management but it is not quite as it was.

We're sorry you felt as though your most recent visit did not stand up to your previous experience. In recent years the hotel has been renovated and we do now offer two dining options to give our guests more variety. The more casual A La Carte restaurant being The Dining Room and our fine dining restaurant The Atrium. Our reservations team do explain the difference between each restaurant when a guest makes a dining reservation, however The Atrium does become booked in advance due the fact only one sitting is offered and it is highly sought after. We do hope you visit again and would suggest The Atrium which is more in line with your previous expectations.

I purchased a voucher for a night at Lords of the manor for my partner's birthday present. With the lockdown restrictions we had to rebook our stay, but this meant we got to visit this week and enjoy a night away before Christmas. Proactive and quick to respond to emails/phone calls regarding rearrangements. We had a warm greeting on arrival and all Covid measures were explained to us. We had dinner booked and this did not disappoint. Fantastic food with lots of different options on the table d’hote menu (some had a supplement charge). Extensive bar menu with various cocktails on offer as well as wines and we took advantage of our free (included with our voucher) glass of prosecco. They offered either breakfast in the restaurant or our room (at no extra charge - another covid measure I am assuming). Again lots of options for breakfast - full English, continental, teas, coffees, juices. We decided to go for room service and ordered the evening before for a time convenient for us. Breakfast arrived on time after a phone call to let us know it was on its way from the kitchen. Our room was large and modern with nice touches - bottles of still and sparkling water, biscuits, elderflower presse as well as normal tea and coffee facilities. Large bathroom with large bath with overhead rainfall shower and separate sprayer. Lovely hot water - just right for a nice bath after a long walk. Beautiful grounds and surrounding area with lots of walk options.

Arrived after long walk for a refreshing coffee and cake break. Full covid precaution temps taken and shown into a side room. And left.... no-one came to ask us what we would like to order. Due to restrictions and unfamiliar with layout of the hotel, we waited 20mins before someone 'came across' us. Almost shocked we were there. Asked us what we wanted, returned with menus and then never came back. Was made to feel that our walking attire didn't fit with their other clientele. Having been shown to a side room, we were completely ignored. If this is how walkers are treated, I wouldn't recommend.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate all feedback and are sorry your experience at Lords of the Manor was not up to our usual standard. First and foremost let me say that walkers are absolutely welcome at Lords of the Manor. We welcome walkers (with and without dogs) on a daily basis. After checking with the team I can confirm your walking attire had absolutely nothing to do with you being seated in the library instead of the Bar or Drawing Room, the only reason you weren't seated in those areas is due to the fact we were very busy and the seating in those areas is prioritised for guests who book in advance. Given the current climate, we always recommend booking in advance - even if just for coffee and cake and especially if it's for a group - as social distancing does not allow us to fill the hotel to its capacity anymore, as much as we would love to. We apologise for you feeling as though you were forgotten, we experienced unexpected levels of guests at the hotel following the announcement of Lockdown 2.0 and on this occasion we clearly just couldn't cope. We do hope you choose to return to Lords of the Manor on another walk and let us show you the level of service we are usually renowned for.

We have stayed here before, but quite sometime ago. This time we only went for afternoon tea as dining is mainly limited to residents during the current restrictions. Tea was perfect in beautiful surroundings with highly efficient friendly staff. We were shown around the hotel and clearly the very high standards have been maintained. It is still the hotel by which we judge all others
