Cold, grubby, impersonal hotel. Food was good but the decor cold, unimaginative and downright uncomfortable. Most staff untrained, surly and ill-mannered. Would. Certainly never stay in this hotel again.

Stopped off for one night following a week's holiday. The hotel is an imposing building on a common above Stroud. The building looks a little tired from the outside but it is very characterful and cosy on the inside. For a country hotel I could not fault the accommodation, the staff nor the cleanliness of the place. The one thing... More

Booked this for a quiet night away and had a great day out before heading to the hotel. First impressions were good, its full of little areas by the main bar and nice area outside for pre dinner drinks. Restaurant was cosy and service very good and the food excellent and wine averagely priced for a hotel of this standard.... More

Nice and cosy hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice interior. Hotel is a bit isolated thus you need a car. Great for exploring the rest of the Cotswolds. Highly recommend. Excellent breakfasts too!!

Should you approach the hotel from the direction of Stroud you will probably wonder, as I did, if you are in fact in the right place! There is not a great deal of evidence of the stone construction that is featured on the hotel's web site, but fear not, once around the other side of the building, the side where... More

Back from a fantastic week in Amberley in which we frequented The Bear a few times. The bar has a good selection of real ales. The bar was busy with lots of people/ hotel residents eating on the nights we called in. We ate there once but unfortunately all 3 of our bar meals that night were a bit average.... More

This is a delight full small hotel, with friendly service and well furnished rooms. We had an excellent breakfast and also a good snack in the bar on arriving. It is well placed for walks which we did after leaving. There was a reception in the evening but we heard nothing of it on returning to the hotel at midnight.... More

Was working in the area and my company chose the Bear for my stay. I was there for 4 nights and on the whole enjoyed the stay. Room was in the slightly run down Country House, adjacent to the main building. Bed was very comfortable but there were no pillow protectors, so had to put up with a faint wet... More

Average hotel at a overpriced cost. Some basics missing from the rooms like hair dryer or moisturizing cream. Shower hot water control was difficult to operate. Towers did not get changed during the 4 nights we stayed. Rooms had intense smell of cleaning products (bleach?)when we arrived. On the positive side, nice views of the Common and plenty of parking... More

The Bear at Rodborough would have been fine for business travel with good, clean bedrooms and a reasonable choice of food. However, the overriding problem was the terrible Internet connection, which prevented reports being filed and critical work not being shared. I'd say that overall the hotel felt somewhat tired and in need of a facelift, but the staff were... More
