We were lucky enough to attend one of their pre opening dinners and I was genuinely blown away, you can tell lots of hard work and hours have gone in to make the place look amazing. The welcome was warm in the bar, with a good choice of beers, shame I was driving! The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb, I had the pork belly as a main, wow a meat lovers heaven, delicious. We will hopefully be able to stay at some point and the bedrooms look outstanding. Thank you to the GM James for being the perfect host and to the rest of the team for looking after us, you have a wonderful place in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds.
We stayed at The Royalist Hotel in May 2013 and it was a nightmare. The brute manageress. It was the day when gypsies celebrated a special reunion and the manageress closed all catering facilities. We had to go out for dinner and when back around 22.00 we were 8 persons locked out of the hotel...after several attempts we found the telephone number of the so called manageress who came down to open the hotel door and told us off for disturbing her. The woman was rude, uncouth, illiterate and rough. The hotel staff otherwise nice and willing. Pleased that the hotel changed hand and name!!!!! Otherwise: Nice rooms, good value, good food and service. Best of luck to the new management!!!!
I was lucky enough to be one of the first guests to stay at the newly opened Porch House (note: this pub has recently been taken over and refurbished by the Brakspear Pub Co with a completely new management team and staff). The atmosphere is most welcoming, the food and drink excellent and the rooms as comfortable as any I have stayed in throughout the county. For anyone looking for a short break in the Cotswolds, this venue should definitely be at the top of the list.
We have just had lunch at The Porch House and if they can keep up these standards they will soon be swamped with bookings. The food was outstanding, better than many of the noted eateries in the area and extremely good value for money. The service was attentive and friendly and although it was their first week, so they were obviously trying hard, I was still left with the impression of a mature, knowledgable team. We had a look at their hotel rooms which were awash with soothing Farrow and Ball colours, seagrass carpets, well placed vintage and antique pieces and lots of nice little touches - Roberts radios, books, nespresso style coffee makers, etc. All in all impressive and a welcome edition to Stow.
