This would have got five stars but for a few minor annoyances - in reality it is probably four and a half. We loved our stay here and were made to feel very welcome. Quieter, and more intimate and with fewer facilities than the other hotels in the Calcot group, but none the worse for that. The decor was stylish...

Dear BrotherLawrence, Thank you for your review and I am glad that you had an enjoyable stay overall, and that you were made to feel very welcome. I shall ensure that your compliments about our Breakfast are shared with the team, and I'm sad to hear that our other meals did not impress as much. Michael Bedford has taken on...

We stayed here for a weekend in the country with nice scenery and good food, and this is what we got. The hotel is in the very pretty village/town of Painswick - its a little set back from the main road, but luckily GPS found it. It looks solid from the outside and staff were on hand to help us...

Dear Eric W, Thank you for your review & I am delighted that you had an enjoyable stay. We do have on-site car parking available, and we will always strive to find a space for our guests & I am sorry for any embarrassment caused in asking for a signed receipt - it just helps ensure diligence & avoids confusion...

We had a lovely 1 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would say that as a 'restaurant with rooms' the menu was pretty safe and unispiring- the food was on the whole very good when it arrived though. There was one real disappointment when the cheese (priced around £10) arrived with inedible pickled grapes - why? and also the...

Reception staff on arrival friendly and professional. The Painswick is a delightful Cotswold stone building, many years ago a vicarage. Set on four floors our suitcases were cheerfully carried to a room on the top floor( up 38 steps) with dramatic views over the surrounding countryside. Bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Comfy chairs and a log fire welcomed us...

Dear haeffner, Thank you for your review & your overall positive comments. We strive for a very natural & unobtrusive service here (as opposed to a formal style) but it is none-the-less professional & diligent. Thank you again for your feedback though & we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again soon. Kindest regards, Luke Millikin General Manager The...

Everyone could not have us feel more welcome and at home. We were met and taken back to Stroud Station courtesy of the hotel. Very relaxing from the moment of arrival when someone showed us round the whole hotel before taking us to our room. Food and wine could not have been better cooked, served and presented in an informal...

We booked the hotel's Snoozing Sundays special offer that included a 55 minute Elemis facial treatment, overnight stay in a Painswick room, 3 course dinner, full English breakfast and a Late Checkout at 1pm for £499. The reception was good and the room looked spacious with good views over the attractive Cotswold hills. The safe however was inside the wardrobe...

Finally! Thank you! A small hotel in the Cotswolds that delivers on all counts! We booked at relatively short notice for my husband's birthday for one night over the weekend. They were very accommodating as normally a two night stay is required....we had a fantastic suite with little terraced balcony, huge sitting room with working fire. Large bathroom with nice...

We chose to go to this hotel for the first time after seeing it rated as the best hotel in the UK. Now don’t get me wrong, it is lovely - lovely fires, lovely beds, lovely staff, lovely evening meal in the café area. It’s just not wow. The areas for improvement? The fact that there was only two types...

I met some girlfriends at The Painswick for an afternoon tea. The hotel itself is situated in the heart of Painswick and is stunning. There are some parking spaces out the front but it is quite tight - so larger 4x4's could find it tricky. We were welcomed immediately and choose to sit upstairs in the lovely light, cosy room...

Situated on the side of the hill in the quaintest part of Painswick this is a good restaurant. It is part of the Barnsley House chain but not quite as good.
