The hotel is undergoing a long overdue refurbishment and this detracted from the stay. Rooms had air conditioning units installed but horse had not been turned on owing to the ongoing refurb. As it was a humid, hot night this was not helpful. Breakfast was a disappointment as well.

Fabulous weekend trip to Brighton , enhanced greatly by the stay at the Mercure Brighton. the staff were efficient and very helpful on arrival and the room which has recently been renovated was stunning with beautiful sea views. The service during the stay was outstanding and the food also at a standard that you expert from Mercure. The whole experience made the trip worth the while and great value for money compared to many hotels I’ve stayed in Brighton before, I shall be back and recommend this as a first port of call when coming to Brighton . thanks Mercure !

I don't know what is wrong with some of the people that write reviews on here. I never write Tripadvisor reviews but after reading some of the reviews of this hotel I need to set the record straight. The room: freshly refurbished/decorated, clean and well thought out decor. Bathroom was clean, lovely towels/toiletries provided. You almost felt like the first people that had stayed in the room. It was a family room and so was extremely spacious. We all slept well on comfortable beds. The breakfast: First class. All you could want from a breakfast - full english option or fruit, croissants, smoothies, cereals, juices etc. Extremely tasty and plenty of it. Service - couldn't be better. Again - Joaquin checked us in and took our booking. Very helpful. Parking: We were told clearly abut the charge in advance, so no confusion there at all. If I am honest - whoever has been leaving these bad reviews must have been staying in a different hotel. I have stayed in numerous hotels all over the world and this is up there with the best. In most major city centre hotels in the world you will be charged for parking. I am surprised you didn't do your research in advance. I know it is extremely hard work in this day and age but simply phone up the hotel and ask them. As for complaints about the positioning of the toilet roll holder. Honestly - I can only presume you are joking?? Once you are standing up it doesn't matter where the toilet roll holder is located. It isn't as if the toilet roll holder was located half way down the corridor, or in the reception lobby now is it. It was located somewhere within your bathroom I would guess. I mean, what on earth is wrong with that? As long as the loo roll is in your bathroom and you can reach it then it should be good enough even for the Queen to use. I would highly recommend this hotel. Next time we are passing through Brighton - we'll be staying here

Four night stay and left after one.. says it all really..as I’m not double jointed I struggled to reach the loo roll as you can see in the picture.. also unable to watch tv as the position of the bracket means you can watch the tv from the fire escape which was view but sadly not from your bed.. bar staff were lovely as was the receptionist Cat..
