Considering the times we are all going through at the moment the grand was very good, there was hand sanitizer at every available point and the rooms were very clean! We had a lovely room and can’t complain. The only annoying thing (which I do understand with COVID) was breakfast, the choice was a continental which wasn’t great (one piece of ham, one piece of cheese etc) or a full English, the second morning my husband did ask for them the adapt the full English though and they were very helpful. We booked a delux sea view room, was absolutely delighted with the room, the service was complimentary, we had a meal in the restaurant and food was excellent, will be booking again soon, me and my husband loved it, staff very friendly and very helpful, shops all very close to hotel.

What a great name than the Grand Brighton, but that that grand at the end. The room was nice but way more tinier than expected, No sea view, which is such a pity in such an hotel. Historical place because of Thatcher obviously, I love the fact that the place is very old and rooms are typically made to remind you that it's an old building, but with a really high standing. About that, I didn't had the chance to experiment the breakfast because I've had to leave the hotel quickly, but I was not really blown away by the bedroom. It was a bit moist, when you have a shower, you can feel the water in the room which is horrible, but the TV is big, such as the bed and I've had a good night. The welcoming part is quite usual, even if I've had a little fight about a booking for an event, but anyway. Would love you to be more smily when you are welcoming someone, even if we're not English, I felt a bit of mistreated. Anyway, would come back if it was cheaper, because it's too expansive for the service. Romain.

I was treated appallingly when I went to this hotel. A friend of mine booked a night for me and my partner at the hotel and I was treated like a second class citizen from the moment I walked into the hotel. The woman on the front desk didn't even say hello to me, she just gave me a look. I said hello and handed her the printed booking. She started questioning me about the booking and then said that she needed to speak to the person who had booked it, I told her they weren't available as they were taking part in the London to Brighton bike race. She wouldn't believe that the booking was for me. She said I couldn't have the room unless they spoke to the person who booked it. It was the way she spoke to me and looked at me. I didn't just imagine it as other people came into the hotel, who were welcomed really nicely and not interrogated like I felt I was. The only difference I could tell was that I was mixed race with dreadlocks. In the end they kept calling my friend who had to stop the race and answer her phone and confirm that the booking was for me. I wasn't happy at all and I said to the woman that I didn't like how I was being treated and that I felt she was being extremely rude to me. In the end I was given an upgrade but it ruined my whole trip. The next morning I mentioned it again to someone else who was on the desk and they were very apologetic (maybe helped because she was black). I felt uncomfortable in the hotel the whole time I was there and would never go back there. I was so upset by my treatment that I am only writing this now a year later as systemic racism is now being discussed!!

Today I had the very kind invitation from dear friends to join them for Sunday Lunch. I was very confused when they mentioned that The Grand were providing it as of course like all other eateries at the moment , temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 situation. It was to be collected as a take away! On returning to their home with said take away.....well I have never seen a take away boxed and presented in such a tasteful , well thought out, practical but still very stylish. Each component of the two course lunch for each of us , also one of my friends chooses a vegan diet, were placed in the oven using the very concise cooking guidelines that accompanied our lunch. As a chef by trade I was very sceptical of how this lunch could head.......Sunday lunch probably THE most complex meal to put through the steps. BUT........as the title suggests....I was blown away, Everything from the huge crispy Yorkshire pudding, to the goose fat roasters and swede...down the the crisp delicate ,buttery pastry of the homemade treacle tart and buttery curd style sauce that accompanied it, I could go on and on...but you get the picture...... Just DO IT whilst you still can...you certainly won’t regret it! ps. All for £18 per head......knock out!, Very , very well done The Grand Brighton x
