Can definitely do with some refurbishment. £70 for a night there is quite expensive, but prices in Brighton seem very high anyway. We had a sea view and breakfast was included, which was nice. Shared bathroom and hearing the handdryer in downstairs bathrooms were the downsides. Also it's just above the pub and next to a busy intersection, so don't... More

I've stayed at this hotel twice now and I can't fault it. The staff are fantastic, very friendly and always there to help you. It's not within walking distance to the town centre but there are two buses you can easily catch to take you there. I stayed because it's in a nice location, with stunning views and easy and... I travel a lot throughout the UK, mainly touring schools. I always feel when I walk into a school if the headteacher is good because it filters through to the staff. At The Downs Hotel, whilst the staff are friendly-ish, they are not at all motivated in the ways of customer care. It began with the check-in process, we had... More

We needed to be in Hove to visit our son who doesnt have room for us to stay. This pub was very clean, with good parking and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was superb. We used the number 2 bus to and from Brighton and then to Hove, thus avoiding the city's high parking fees. This is a... More

We booked to go to the Foodies Festival and found this hotel on Late Rooms. Its set on a hill overlooking the sea and beautiful hills. We arrived early but were able to book in as our room was ready. We parked our car to the right side without realising that there is a massive car park to the right... More

As we were travelling with our dog we needed somewhere where she could stay in the room with us. The Downs popped up on a hotel search as welcoming dogs, so for one night it was fine for us. Although tired looking from the outside, the pub was busy and we were welcomed warmly by the staff. It was a... More

lovely hotel in ideal spot to visit Brighton and the surrounding area. Near to the racecourse ,football stadium and the uni. A short bus ride to Brighton so no parking issues. Clean rooms and lovely breakfast. Reasonably priced so all perfect.

Second time I've stayed and I cannot fault it. Why there's negative reviews from some considering its price astounds me. The staff are all friendly and my dog was made very welcome. There's a new chef Lewis and the quality of the dinner he cooked for me was better than I have had in most restaurants. I had his Lamb... More

This was exactly what I needed. On a longer road trip, I don't want to pay Hilton proces every night, for frills and fripperies that I have no use for. The Downs Hotel was clean and very comfortable. My single room was small but not cramped (and I take up a lot of space, so I'm sensitive to cramped-ness). The... More

I will start on a positive, the breakfast was very nice and served by a friendly waitress. There was a tray with tea/ coffee and a biscuit in the room so we didn't have to go down into the bar or outside of the room for anything. Now for the negatives. Our double on suite room was cramped, old fashioned,... More
