Go in on odd occasion must say food is lovely, large portions too, pub could do with a refurb though very dated. Friendly staff and free pool table which goes down well. But could do with new everything really

As a young female traveling alone, i felt extremely welcome by the staff and locals who used the bar. Breakfast was great, a massive choice and so easy. I also had all of my evening meals here which were a good price and tasted great. I stayed in the double room with shared bathroom, which was very homely, nicely decorated,... More

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Nuffield hospital, where my son was booked for surgery. That was the only redeeming feature of the hotel. All the awful pictures you see on TA are accurate. We were 'welcomed' by the landlord with a demand for payment of the balance of our stay, after which he thrust three... More

Stayed for 2 nights but our room and bathroom were in need of a good clean. There were several cobwebs in the windows and mould in the shower. We decided not to use the shower as the bathroom was so cold and the window (which could not be opened) was permanently covered in condensation. On the positive side, breakfast was... More

I Politely explained to a bar staff member that I was in Brighton for training and the mix up in booking had left my brother without somewhere to stay, I only had booked the hotel for one not knowing he was joining me last minute, I asked the bar man if there was any solution so we can both stay... Popped in for some afternoon refreshments, before heading out on a walk of the beautiful local area. Had to wait a long time for service, when it finally came, the barman ignored my smalltalk in favor of interjecting to talk over me to his friend at the bar. The pint was off and tasted of rot. While we were sitting... More

Can definitely do with some refurbishment. £70 for a night there is quite expensive, but prices in Brighton seem very high anyway. We had a sea view and breakfast was included, which was nice. Shared bathroom and hearing the handdryer in downstairs bathrooms were the downsides. Also it's just above the pub and next to a busy intersection, so don't... More

I've stayed at this hotel twice now and I can't fault it. The staff are fantastic, very friendly and always there to help you. It's not within walking distance to the town centre but there are two buses you can easily catch to take you there. I stayed because it's in a nice location, with stunning views and easy and... I travel a lot throughout the UK, mainly touring schools. I always feel when I walk into a school if the headteacher is good because it filters through to the staff. At The Downs Hotel, whilst the staff are friendly-ish, they are not at all motivated in the ways of customer care. It began with the check-in process, we had... More

We needed to be in Hove to visit our son who doesnt have room for us to stay. This pub was very clean, with good parking and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was superb. We used the number 2 bus to and from Brighton and then to Hove, thus avoiding the city's high parking fees. This is a... More
