Service could have been a bit more attentive. And had run out of some liquor supplies. Like baileys. Rioja. Festival weekend perhaps taken its toll. Good well presented and great produce. Triple cook chips slightly overdone. Kale slightly underdone. But hearty and tasty. And value good. I will come back.

Dear NigelAllery, Thank you for your review - we apologise for running out of some of the drinks, but a very busy three days causes these things! Glad to know that you enjoyed it overall, and that you will be good. We will naturally speak with our kitchen to ensure that our standards improve in the areas mentioned. Kind regards,... More

Stayed one night whilst walking South downs way. Friendly reception. Room modern - the decoration is dark to align to the history of the building. Whilst an offer of an additional reading light is made in the literature - it should be provided automatically so you don't have to ask. The building is amazing and in a great location. Breakfast... This was our second visit to the Star and we had a great stay on both occasions. The staff make such a difference to an establishment - they were all delightful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good, breakfast was a buffet but varied and eggs cooked to order. Dinner was delicious. Will stay again without a... More

A most pleasant stay combining modern comfort and good facilities with genuine and quirky olde English style. Good breakfast and extremely friendly and helpful staff. All that we wanted from a stop-over stay.

Very much enjoyed our stay here. Best beds on the South Downs Way, hotel rooms sympathetically renovated whilst retain the history. We stayed 1 night, and also ate dinner and breakfast here. Dinner was very tasty, and breakfast buffet was also good. Seems to be a very dog friendly hotel judging by number of dogs around. No issue for us,... More

Where do I start, from the moment we arrived to checking out we found the staff personable, efficient, friendly and all went out of their way to be so helpful. We were there for our daughter's wedding and want to thank Grace for making the day run so smoothly and dressing the Heritage room so beautifully for our meal, it... More

Visited here recently and enjoyed a brief 24hr stay in this picturesque village. On arriving at The Star Inn we we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and offered a welcome drink! Our room was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. We had everything we needed. The Inn is quirky due to its age, and we loved it! Following a... More

Sorry for my late review but my wife and I stayed at the Star for 3 nights from 27th June 2016. We booked a standard room B&B and paid £92- per night rack rate. The Star, as with some other similar inns of this type, has built a modern extension on the back of the original inn. This adds around... More

We ate here Sunday 8 Aug, and the roast Sunday lunch was just superb, as good as I would cook here at home. Plenty of veg, beautifully cooked; tender beef (husband) and turkey (me). Good Yorkshire pudding for the beef, nice roast potatoes. The is the second Sunday lunch we've had here, and will return. The red fruits crumble was... More

What a gem of a hotel! The staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful - Jessica on reception was brilliant.
