The Grosvenor Arms is newly refurbished, it is traditional yet stylish, relaxed yet ‘buzzy’, and open all day. There are 16 bedrooms to choose from: cosy double, spacious double, deluxe double, balcony double, or suites – each one is beautifully appointed and furnished, decorated in a style appropriate to one of Shaftesbury’s oldest inns, but complete with the modern facilities you expect. You are always welcome, for a drink in the bar, a cup of coffee in the conservatory, or a pizza from the wood oven. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the paved courtyard is always available for an alfresco lunch or drink.

I really liked my stay here. The room was comfortable and cozy, the staff friendly but not over familiar. Food and coffee were both good. I would definitely stay here again. We had dinner and breakfast - both freshly cooked and in good sized portions. I also like the conservatory and the snug bar for afternoon tea.

This is definitely the best place to stay and to eat in Shaftesbury. It is a well run establishment, clean, Covid safe, good food and service. It's part of a large restaurant and hotel group, so you can tell that the management standards are in place. The building is large, with plenty of comfy armchairs, sofas and space to meet friends. Particularly good are the lunches and cream teas. The location is very central, so you can go around the whole of Shaftesbury and visit shops and attractions. Shaftesbury Abbey has lovely gardens.

We booked an overnight stay using the bed breakfast and evening meal package which turned out fantastic value for money. We left our car in the Bell Rd car park which we were given a free parking permit for. Our room was small but very well appointed overlooking the High St. We both slept soundly, very comfortable bed and pillows. We struggled with the hot water in the bathroom which took a very long time to come through as at the very back end of the hotel so wasting gallons of water. The evening pre booked meal was very nice - all home cooked including the crackers with the cheese board. Breakfast just as good with refills if requested. Covid 19 made things a bit different but the very pleasant staff seemed on top of things trying to make it as seamless as possible. Certain to return.
