I have just returned from an incredible couple of days at the Cary Arms, and what a discovery it was. I have travelled widely but have seldom experienced a hotel in such a stunning location. Admittedly two days of blue skies and sunshine helped, but it provided the perfect location for a much needed break and everything about it makes it easy to escape and relax. I stayed in one of the beach huts, which was really well equipped and provided a panoramic sea view. The staff were all excellent and really went the extra mile to make you feel welcome. I can't think of a better way to start the day than eating a full english breakfast on the terrace and it was as good a breakfast as I have ever had in a hotel. All served to the table to order. Now that I have discovered this lovely place I shall most definitely return. It is not cheap but you most definitely get what you pay for.

Just returned home from another amazing stay at the Cary Arms. We have stayed here many times and both the location and the hotel are absolutely superb. It is like a peaceful oasis away from the stresses of everyday life. The staff are all amazingly helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is spotless and of the highest quality. We ate several times and all the food was of top quality and delicious topped off by the stunning views from the outside terrace. Cannot recommend highly enough and we are already looking forward to our next stay in a few weeks time.

What a brilliant idea to create accommodation in the form of 2 storey beach huts with fantastic sea views. The “hut” had a big sofa area, spacious bathroom the bedroom on the mezzanine and a terrace outside - what more could you want for a relaxing 3 days. Breakfast was plentiful with a wide range of choices, the evening meals were good quality and I can barely find fault. Other accommodation is available but we loved the privacy and quietness of the hut. You know a place is good when you could easily have stayed longer.

2nd trip - excellent- i thought id posted this but hadnt . the beach huts are worth every penny for the view and quality of the decor. the hotels works very hard to meet standards for guests paying a lot of money in peak times . from booking to departing- some lovely touches all the way esp as it was my birthday . id def recommend it and its prob pretty hard to beat for views in the UK. for the standard it offers which without doubt is at the highest , but it is expensive in our peak months but on a great day weather wise its simply worth every penny. We used the spa it was lovely and then sunbathed a bit outside on the spa terrace. i do think though at 500 pound a night plus this should be free for the higher end suites. Food imo could be stepped up a bit but that is my opinion. i personally thought it could have some more obvious sea side treats on the menu and not veer away from the obvious and i also felt the same on our first trip. its hard to say but some folk just want a lovely prawn cocktail, fillet steak and i feel the restaurant is trying to be something it isn't. on both occassions i have eaten most people were affluent locals so may be they wanted something a bit different and that is the audience . There is not much around of a very high standard inc torquay id say within three miles. its also a very isolated hotel and must be hard to get staff as that hill to drive is a nightmare and no way for walking. there is a lovely tapas restaurant down the sea front - by foot - bit complex which we thought was better than the hotel resturant and half the cost, not on foot you need to get to the top of the hill , walk and get the tram train down. it doesnt open at night time . We did the model village as well - that was a really fun day . overall id return in a heart beat.

To get to it you turn down a very small steep road next to the theatre until you come across what looks like a small building with an unloading space for two cars outside. We carried on and parked on the private car park at the bottom by the beach which was £2 for the day. Inside it’s like the Tardis, a beautiful beamed pub with stone walls, from every window, there are stunning sea views with nothing to spoil the vista. You eat, either in the pub, with a selection of nooks, or a conservatory with stunning views over the bay and harbour wall or weather permitting outside. We opted to sit outside as the weather was lovely and to our surprise when we were taken to our table, we had been selected to be put on the Captain's table (was informed that there was normally a two month waiting list to get this table). Its not cheap here but the food was Amazing, the views Stunningly and the Service was first class, if you want to treat yourself its well worth it. :)

When we arrived changing room very small no towels or robes had to ask. It says max of six there were 4 of us all 5 loungers were being used spoke to manager who fetched another lounger from outside which had green mould on. Had cream tea .. only fruit scones were available no plain or cheese ..no alternative was offered ! I had to ask and was given a small hard chocolate brownie ! The tea was for 4!..the selection was poor and fillings were small! All in all not pleased with the visit and certainly not worth the money we paid! Won’t go back

Travelled as a family with young children in one of the self contained apartments which was really spacious and lovely - nicely decorated. Gorgeous position of the bath overlooking the sea! Lovely master bedroom and the children enjoyed their bedroom space and the entertainment of puzzles etc thoughtfully left. The food in the restaurant was outstanding with gorgeous views however the staff were what really made the experience - they were absolutely exceptional - so welcoming and accommodating. Lovely grounds, spa was fantastic and great access to the beach. A real secluded private haven. As we had kids we didn’t spend any time in the guest lounge but popped in and it looked like a wonderful place to relax.
