About
Description
Set in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the Duke of Cornwall is a stunning period hotel brimming with character and style. Built as Plymouth’s first luxury hotel in 1863, the Duke has been lovingly preserved More and enhanced so that its unique Victorian Gothic splendour can still be enjoyed by guests today. The hotel’s 72 rooms are all individually designed with thoughtfully-selected designer wallpapers and vintage furniture, creating a chic look that does justice to the building’s striking architecture. With a range of bedroom sizes and styles available, from comfortable en-suites to indulgently romantic four-poster rooms, there’s accommodation to suit everyone. The Duke’s luxury extends to its impressive culinary offerings. Fine dining is available (for guests and non-guests alike) in the comfort of the hotel’s elegant restaurant. With an AA rosette and a dynamic team of chefs, its dishes look and taste sensational. Light lunches and a generous choice of drinks are available in the lounge, with its welcoming bar and, in the colder months, a homely log fire. If you’re planning a wedding, party or business event, the Duke is the ideal choice. With a wealth of experience in organising celebrations and group events, a range of room options and a full set of facilities and equipment, the hotel has everything you need to ensure your event runs smoothly. And with the backdrop of the Duke’s stunning decor and features, you can be sure your guests will be impressed, whether the occasion is one of business or pleasure. As well as the merits that await guests within, the Duke also offers a fantastically convenient location in the centre of Plymouth. The hotel is a short walk from the city’s abundance of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the historic Plymouth Hoe, Sutton Harbour and the Barbican, with their spectacular sea views. And it’s a mere stone’s throw from two of the South West’s finest entertainment venues, the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions – making the hotel the ideal overnight stop-off or meeting place if you’re catching a show. Whether you’re visiting Plymouth or it’s the city you call home, you’ll find the Duke of Cornwall a pleasure to experience. With its fascinating history, friendly but professional service, and breathtaking style, the Duke is truly a gem in Britain’s Ocean City. Less

It was the third time that we've stayed and of course we will stay again as its convenient and reasonably priced. We were given a smaller room this time but it was still lovely. It's an old building and very creaky. We did get woken up on several occasions due to people walking a

We stayed one night for a works Christmas party. The hotel is very impressive throughout the common areas - reception, staircase, bars, restaurant. All the staff we came across were very efficient and friendly. The food in the evening party was good and breakfast the next morning

Well the first thing was when we went into the hotel, we took the double throw of the bed and it had all brown substance over the inside of the throw, so obviously that would prompt you to start checking the other beds. So we did and we was horrified with what we found in the bed

Booked late on Sunday afternoon to stay on Sunday evening. I was slightly dubious as the last couple of best westerns I had stayed in, had been average at best.

The Duke restored my faith in the brand. A huge, old hotel, but charming in every way.
Great team and service provided

Just what you would expect from an old hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was clean as was the rest of the hotel. Wonderful sweeping stair case and interesting dome feature in the dining room. Good selection of beers in offer. Bar menu is limited, but the burger was good

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, it is very much appreciated. I am pleased to hear that your enjoyed the architecture of the building - the listed staircase and the domed ceiling with the feature chandelier are quite spectacular! I am pleased that you found the hotel to be clean, and enjoyed your time in the Lounge Bar. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

I’m not sure, probably best to contact the hotel direct, they are always very helpful. Regards Thelma

how much is breakfast and is parking free
Hi. Breakfast is included in many of our room rates, if it isn't included then it costs £12.50 for a Full English breakfast or £10.50 for a continental buffet breakfast. Parking is free within our car park. I hope this helps. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

Could you help us arrange ferry tickets to France if we stayed at your hotel July 9th?
Hello, I am afraid that our reception team would not be able to help book your ferry in July. We are so sorry that we are unable to help, but planning other elements of your break that would then be outside of our control would not be best for you or our team. We hope that planning your break goes well and if you would still like to discuss a room at the hotel please do get in touch. Best wishes, the Duke Team
