Visiting lynmouth for a day trip with adults and young teenagers. We saw captains house from across the river with lots of flowers and parasols in the garden which lead us believe that they took pride and cared about what they do. -how wrong we were! I ordered a pasty that was described as "aga baked" etc (can't remember rest... More

From some of the reviews were were apprehensive about staying here. We needn't have been. The Captain's House is in a picturesque location beside the river and is reach via an attractive riverside path for walkers from Lynmouth. We were warmly greeted, shown to our rooms and offered tea on the house in the cottage garden. It was perfect after... More

Despite its rather idyllic location, this place is old and tired and not very clean. The owner was abrupt, angry and aggressive with us to the point that we registered a complaint with the local police on the advice of Tourist Information and the town council. We love the Exmoor region and beautiful Lynton and Lynmouth, but advise that visitors... More

On a rainy day in Lynmouth we decided to stop for lunch and the beautiful tea garden at the Captain's House was very inviting. Such a lovely garden with attractive plants in pots, beautifully tended and even a friendly robin for company. The large parasols were a great invitation as we could sit out under one and miss the rain.... More

We stayed here for one night while walking the SWCP. The room was clean but damp. The house is very old as are the rooms and furniture. Mold on the bathroom's ceiling. Free Wifi. The host was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the breakfast was horrible. Greasy eggs, old and cold mushroom and bread with mold did lie heavily in our... More

Thank you for your comments, you chose a full English breakfast rather than one of the more healthier options everything was hot when brought to your table, incidentally the toast wasn't mouldy it was seeded wholegrain! I'm pleased to tell you the en-suite ceiling has been repainted as was scheduled, enjoy the rest of the SW coast path. More

We stopped by seeking a triple room. The room was dark, dirty, tiny and overpriced. When we politely declined, the proprietor inexplicably flew into a rage, shouting abuse at us as we walked away. This place should be out of business. Avoid!

This people came to view a bedroom and then asked if we would leave them alone in the room to decide 15 minutes later they came downstairs and said "We will think about it" but when my wife went to check the room the bed linen all clean and fresh had been ruffled and we discovered urine in the toilet.This... We wandered in to the terrace garden for drinks, before we had even sat down the owner was suggesting we all had cream teas. He had a look of disdain when we said we wanted drinks only. The kids sized tiny bottle of lemonade was £2.50. The advertised jug of "lemon barley water over crushed ice" turned out to be... More

We stopped here on a hot day for some drinks and possibly a bite to eat. We asked for a bottle of Coke and a mineral water because we were thirsty. We were charged £5 for what tasted like Pepsi out of a plastic bottle (small glass too) and what looked like a mineral water but which was in fact... More
