Welcoming friendly and comfortable- what more can you want? Oh yes - The hotel is also perfectly located in the centre for visiting Exeter and yet is in a quiet location. The place is quirky and has an interesting history which gives it quite a special feel. Rooms are well appointed but do not expect ‘standard’ - it’s all part of the charm. NCP car park very near by but drop off is right outside. Lovely bar and outside patio ( when weather permits) good breakfast - no adverse comments whatsoever.

This kicks off 2022 really beautifully; thank you for taking the time to give feedback. We love that you found our oasis (and clocked the historical angle too) in the heart of Exeter. This is such a compact and interesting little city; it’s a pleasure to share it with you.

Our stay was to celebrate my husband’s special birthday. We had a lovely welcome and shown to our luxury room which was just as described. To make things special we were bought a couple of glasses of fizz. The room was gorgeous and had everything and more. The breakfast was lovely and the service wonderful and friendly. We had cocktails and the barman new his stuff our martinis were fab. The hotel is close to everything and we had a lovely couple of days.

Thank you for choosing SH for your special celebrations - it means a lot to be able to make lovely memories for our guests. Paulie is a legend when it comes to cocktails; the bar is worth a visit to Exeter in it’s own right! I hope we might see you again, maybe for special birthday + 1 year celebrations ;)

There is the sense of arriving at someone's home and even the reception has the informality of visiting acquaintances. The essence of the original house has been maintained but with all the trappings of a modern hotel. Rooms are well appointed and well designed with comfortable beds. We dined one evening and had an excellent meal and breakfast was first class. An enjoyable stay pre one or other of the lockdowns!

This is a great take on Southernhay House as William’s private residence. You’re right in that I drew heavily on his exploits and personality when dreaming up the hotel. I’m glad you enjoyed the experience and this is exactly where we want to be: open, active and entertaining our gorgeous guests!

We stayed for two nights for my daughters graduation. Interesting and lovely decor and a very nice garden area where we enjoyed drinks with friends. Breakfast was delicious. Our bed was exceptionally comfortable but I have never been in a Hotel before with no wardrobe and only two small drawers for belongings! Four coat hangers were provided and wooden hooks attached to the wall for hanging these on so the loveseat in our room acted as a clothes horse for our weekend……..

We’ve really enjoyed the more laid-back and individual graduation celebrations this year! Thank you for choosing us as a backdrop for this and thank you, also, for your kind comments. Yes: we do not have wardrobes in the bedrooms, but clothes hooks on the walls, space being at a premium in this Grade II* building (guests please note that all the luxury rooms have clothes rails too, which I would always recommend if you are staying for longer or have several posh outfits to look after, our apartment has full wardrobe facilities - all the rooms are slightly different in size and style so do call us to discuss and book and we can match you to the right fit!).
