We stayed at this hotel while visiting friends in Exeter. On arrival we had to look for a member of staff to check us in as it was a busy evening. We were shown to the ivory suite for witch we paid £230 per night. The room was smaller than expected, but well presented. The bathroom was luxurious but the... More

It was my partner's 65th birthday and so I decided to book a meal at Southernhay House Hotel as a surprise, we normally eat at a wine bar a few doors away. There were only two other tables taken so we made three - this was the first warning! Staff were invisible most of the time. The menu was very... More

I don't think I have ever felt so unwanted. Upon arrival a member of staff just disappeared from reception! Left feeling like an uninvited guest at a private house! Completely empty on a Saturday evening too....

We stayed a Sunday night at the end of a fun weekend. The hotel is beautiful. Elegant rooms and friendly service. It lacks a lift and a cast of thousands - and I really liked that. Two minutes walk into the Cathedral quarter. I have a feeling we will be back.

I booked a romantic weekend away for my wife and I as we managed to offload the kids for a couple of days. As my wife and I travelled separately I arrived first and was shown to the room, well, I was shown to the room and left to let myself in ! First impression was of a reasonable room,... More

Sawday's guides have become my first port of call when visiting a destination and they have not disappointed in their description of Southernhay House! My room was very nice indeed - great bathroom, heated floor and a big shower, it all felt very luxurious. Plus there was a tube of Smarties to enjoy. Breakfast was excellent as were the hotel... We stayed for 1 night at the weekend. We had 2 rooms, Ivory & Cotton. Check-in was fine and we were shown to our rooms. First impression was the state of the carpet on the stairs. It was stained and didn't look like it had been vacuumed for days. The rooms themselves were nice and the bathrooms which were obviously... More

Southernhay House is located in an imposing Georgian building in the centre of Exeter. It is a short walk to the Cathedral, the main shopping district and Exeter's waterfront, making it one of the best located of Exeter's hotels. The area is pleasantly leafy and far enough away from the real centre of the City to be relatively quiet at... More

Hi Patrick, thank you for posting and for your kind comments. Our rooms have different bathroom configurations (the grade 2* listing means we needed to be creative!) so please always ask on booking if unsure...however all bathrooms with glass doors are well screened and facing a blind wall so you have privacy. I hope that you will visit frequently, while... More

Visited the hotel about a year ago now and thought I had written a review! Lovely hotel, friendly staff and would happily visit again. The room was spotless. The shower powerful. Breakfast delicious and perfect location.

We stayed here as a birthday gift. On arrival we were pleasantly greeted, bags carried to our room and our room facilities were then explained. The room was spotless, comfortable and spacious. Great touches like the bottled water, lighting, seating area, tea tray and bedding (although the top cover needs binning, ripped and very tired!). I think a fluffy robe... More

Many thanks for your nice review and good comments. Bed throws are no longer used; as you point out, they were very delicate (silk and velvet) and needed constant replacing - so now just gorgeous, crisp, white monogrammed linen! The rooms with baths do have bathrobes but, future guests, please ask if you would like one during your stay (or... More
