It's not often that your hotel feels like you are staying with friends, but that is exactly the feeling we had at The Rising Sun. It is certainly not flash (friends houses seldom are), but the room was large, comfortable and welcoming. There were even two arm chairs. The bathroom was good for an English bathroom. The best thing about... More

We came here for a cream tea when everywhere else was shut. They serve them until 5.30pm. It was an excellent cream tea with proper leaf tea. This pub has a busy but laid back atmosphere. Worth a visit

Been to The Rising Sun many times over the years but stopped going due to the Manager being unnecessarily argumentative and generally quite rude. We tried again last week as we had friends staying who wanted to go out in St Mawes. Food was as you would expect from a basic pub menu. Nothing special but wouldn't say it was... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and I apologise that your visit wasn't an enjoyable one, I would, however like to clarify your comments as best I can. Firstly, we take a lot of pride in our menu, and we are a pub, as you quite rightly have stated. Our menu does show (v) on vegetarian... More

This pub is very much a local pub but also for tourists . The terrace is amazing when it is sunny it's packed. Ideal spot . Families too. Nothing better than drinking a pint on the terrace kids on the beach and catching up with friends

3 of us stopped here for lunch Gran, Mum and adult Grandson. its a great location right by the sea front in St Mawes and close to a large car park. As we 3 all have either dietary difficulties or requirements, I worried that the food here may be Gasto-pubby- & not really suited to our needs - but to... More

Although very busy service was quite good. We decided,as we were having dinner later, a sandwich would be enough. When it arrived it was huge, served with a side salad, all very nice. Beautiful position looking out over the sea.

Cracking location overlooking the harbour. Nice friendly smart pub with grub and several rooms, some with sea views. I had the only single room which was very good value and comfortable. Only issue was a ropey old loo seat which really needs replacing. Other than that very happy with my stay here in this beautiful harbour. A nice touch was... More

Would not normally write a review, but when offers the response " nothing we can do" to informing the staff to a slug in my wife's salad this evening, a pleasant meal turned into a regretful evening. I was not necessarily expecting a refund, but to have the manager specifically send back the waiting staff with that message was cowardly... More

Thank you for your review, I do sincerely apologise for the salad issue, this should not have happened. Not quite sure what happened with the communication, as we as managers do not expect our staff to apologise for issues, we deal with them ourselves. We would have offered a refund or another dish, or a drink so somewhere the communication... More

My husband and I really enjoyed an amazing lunch, it was a large portion and it was fresh, homemade and very tasty. They also served a carvers which looked and smelt amazing. The location was perfect and a very friendly and local atmosphere. It was very clean and it felt very comfortable to eat in.

TThe Rising Sun has a large outside seating area with good views over the sea. It is aimed at the Tourist market and the food prices are very steep although thr portions are large. St Mawes is generally expensive but we felt that this pub/restaurant took their customers for a ride with their prices.
