Situated right on the sea front by the harbour makes the Ship and Castle a wonderful location. The public rooms are all modern and clean. Our bedroom was a good size and the beds were comfortable. Lack of draw space was a slight negative. Also the room was in need of redecoration and the seems of the wall paper had started... More

We were staying at the ship and Castle at the same time as the previous reviewer, and we could find no fault either with the chicken or the roast beef! They were cooked to perfection. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. We also had a balcony room (114), and loved it despite the rainwater collecting in a large pool (this... More

We loved the views from our balcony, room 117. We did not like the roast dinner on Sunday. The potatoes were hollow in the middle and the meat was tasteless, I did not like the chicken on Saturday when we arrived either. I thought we would be eating elsewhere for the rest of our stay. However the food improved and I... More

The hotel is in a wonderful location in a prime sea front position in St Mawes. we were on a self drive holiday and the parking arrangements were poor. £6 a day in a public car park which added significenty to the cost of the holiday. The rooms were small and dingy and if on a higher floor there was... More

We did not stay here, but in a cottage next door, so this was a very convenient restaurant to use. Most of the diners here were on a Shearings holiday and enjoying their visit. From the Manager to the waitresses the staff were efficient and anxious to please. Our dinner, chosen from the a la carte menu, was simple and... More

We went to Cornwall for a week the half term, on the Friday we went to St Mawes what a place. Anyway about 6pm we were looking for somewhere to eat, and walks into the Ship and Castle Hotel and ask if we could have something to eat in there restaurant. The young man on the front desk was outstanding... More

The room had cobwebs on the ceiling, could have been cleaner, was shabby and only one window opened out of three. The architrave round the door had screws all the way down on one side following a very bad repair. All in all we couldn't wait to leave. The housekeeper did come and give it another clean when we mentioned... More

This hotel has beautiful views and when we booked a Shearings five day coach holiday I had seen photos online of the restaurant and lounge area which looked very nice but some of the standard bedrooms were not impressive so we paid £100 extra for the four nights plus extra for a sea view room. The room was definitely not... More

We went on a 5 day Shearings holiday, yes the journey can be a little long, but well worth it once you arrive at the hotel. We paid extra and booked a superior seaview room (119). it was absolutely worth every penny, the view overlooking the harbour, the sunset at night - fantastic, the little extras like bottled water and... A great start when we were introduced to our driver just got better as we proceeded to our destination. The hotel was great, the room was clean and comfortable with all that was required. All meals were served promptly. Trips out were interesting and informative. We cannot praise our driver enough. He made the holiday. We will return again. Thanks... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Where the Rivers’ Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen’s cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 55 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special. ... more   less
