We stayed at the Ship & Castle hotel on the 8th August for 4 nights. This was properly one of the worst hotel experiences we have had pretty much entirely due to the location of the room that we were allocated . This was room 107 on the first floor it was looking rather tired and the bathroom was very... More

We stayed at The Ship & Castle Hotel as part of a Shearings Coach Holiday to St Mawes. We arrived late on the first evening but despite the time we were greeted by friendly staff on reception and then taken into the dining room for dinner. The staff were excellent, incredibly friendly and were happy to help with anything you... More

Just returned from a week's coach holiday with Shearings. Restaurant staff are excellent and promptly efficient serving a good variety of food catering for all tastes both at breakfast and dinner though the self service breakfast could have been hotter. Slept better than I do at home in a lovely comfortable bed. The room was big but a bit basic... More

A great location overlooking the harbour. The meals are the Ship and Castle were excellent and we could not fault the staff. It was good value for money. There were only two very minor negatives. Our the room was tired and dated. We were on a self drive holiday and you had to park in the public car park which was... More

We stayed here as part of a Shearings coach holiday. Check in was quick and efficient. Reception staff were lovely and our suitcases were taken to our rooms. We went straight into dinner as we were late getting there and the restaurant had stayed open for us. The staff here are lovely. They make sure you have everything you need.... More

The sign outside clearly says "non-residents welcome". I have been visiting St Mawes for several decades and this is the first time I have ventured in. As I walked towards the restaurant, I asked one of the staff whether I seat myself or wait to be seated. Without a smile or a welcome, she said her manager would seat me.... More

Shearing coach holiday to this hotel. Fantastic position, friendly staff, ample delicious meals, good entertainment & really clean. Maintenance of the hotel needs improving as letting the hotel down. All little things but need looking at. Hand rails coming away from the wall, Windows stuck half open, showers over baths which for many people is a struggle & couldn't get... More

As part of a coach holiday we stayed at the Ship and Castle Hotel right on the sea front. It was an older building with some updates having taken place. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I would suggest trying for an upgrade front room if possible with views over the sea and surrounding area. St. Mawes is a small... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Where the Rivers’ Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen’s cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 55 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special. ... more   less
