Started badly when their 3 'drop off' car park spaces were occupied so we had to park along the road on double yellow lines, having to carry our luggage up the hill to the hotel. Handed the keys over to their concierge to park it but not sure how long the car was left. Arrivals were allowed at 3pm so we thought by arriving at 4pm the room would be ready. Not the case. Were told that it could be an hour before the room was ready due to 'staffing shortages'. They offered us a free drink in the bar which was ok other than there was only one person serving a full bar and only table service due the the Covid rules. Despite chasing twice he took over 30 mins before he bought us a couple of soft drinks. Lift is of the old style where there is an inner grill so clearly very old. Wasn't working when we arrived so the reception staff had to carry our luggage up to the 4th floor. The Lift only worked once during our 2 day stay so we had to walk up and down the 4 flights several times. Nice modern bedroom with sea view. Decent bathroom although large tub bath in the middle wasn't practical with nowhere to put soap/shampoo/towel etc and very high sides, so not suitable to those of limited mobility. After another 20 min + wait in the bar to be served on both nights (barman struggling with making cocktails and providing table service to a busy bar) we had really good evening meals inc Cod crusted with crab and medallions of Pork. Restaurant was, however, not relaxing due to noisy children arriving at 8.30pm. Good breakfast but service again really poor. Stood in queue for 20+ mins on the 2nd morning waiting to be taken to a table despite the restaurant being only half full. Then another 15 min wait for our order to be taken. The waitress taking our order didn't have a mask which seemed strange. I know that some people are excluded from this requirement, but surely in a hotel she could have been given a role that didn't involve close contact with food and customers. Also didn't like the salt & pepper in an open saucer to pinch onto the food - not Covid (or any other disease) safe. Plastic/leather chairs were not sanitised after use in either the bar or restaurant. Finally after carrying our cases down the 4 flights of stairs on departure we noticed on our bill 2 additional service charges - which we had removed. Don't like these charges being added - just include them in the price. Needed to then wait 15 mins for the concierge to drive our car back to the hotel from a car park some distance away. At £560 for 2 nights D B & B very expensive for the poor service offered. Staff were friendly and helpful but clearly overworked and struggling. Good location at top of hill over a beach but a long walk into the main part of St Ives and the walk back up the steep hill not for the unfit.

Hotel's Favorite
I visited this recently renovated hotel with my other half on a Saturday in January. I always research the places I stay in meticulous detail and so expected a good night. I was slightly concerned about the lack of parking (it’s impossible to park at all in St Ives) but needn’t have worried. A lovely young man was on hand as soon as we arrived to valet park our car. Lovely. A very good receptionist (Natasha?) showed us to our room on the top (4th) floor and I couldn’t have been more delighted. There’s always a moment for me when I open the door of any hotel room for the first time. I prepare my face not to show any disappointment if it’s not what I was expecting/hoping but this room exceeded all my expectations in all regards. The view was spectacular. A small Juliette balcony overlooked the bay and light flooded in (I get quite depressed in a dark room). The very big bed was delightfully tucked behind original large old wooden beams and supports in this incredibly cleverly designed room/suite. The bathroom was fab and there was also a 2nd bedroom with bunk beds and another en-suite. The beds had a gorgeous nautical feel and I almost wished For a moment that had brought children to tuck in that night. Luckily that didn’t last when I spotted the decanters of complementary sherry (it’s not just for old ladies you know) and more excitingly for me, gin and decided a pre-pre dinner drink was just what the doctor ordered. The mini bar had several flavours of Fever Tree tonic for the OH to explore and a lovely man brought ice and lemon round. It would have been rude not to sit and sip our two G&T’s each (but who’s counting) as we watched the tiny people walk their tiny dogs down on the beach below us. I’m getting quite misty eyed remembering it... We went down for dinner and enjoyed a 3 course meal. Impeccably trained staff took our orders and left us alone to enjoy it. I personally don’t like being constantly asked if everything’s alright so that suited me fine. Great food, great service and grrat company (well I’d had a few drinks by then) made the time fly by. We retired to enjoy the last episode of a Netflix series we’d been watching - spoiler alert - this is what happens on a romantic night away when you get to a certain age. In the morning I can honestly say I had the best breakfast I’ve had in years with the amazing yoghurt/granola homemade pots (that really doesn’t adequately explain nor do justice to them) followed by a wonderful cooked breakfast. Overall, I can honestly say that this hotel was a joy to stay in and we made our one night feel like a much longer holiday by taking advantage of St Ives the following day as well. The staff were all, without exception, first rate and that can make or break a place so hats off to the manager. My only regret is that I didn’t get to try the Spa. Oh well, we’ll just have to go back!

Oh Dear Harbour. This was our 5th visit and we have seen the hotel go downhill. And not in the same league as other harbour properties. There are just not enough staff in the bar and dining room. Last weekend we had wrong drinks to no drinks to whatever we had was free. All we wanted was what we ordered and were prepared to pay for it. That proved difficult. Even on checkout our bill was wrong and the response from reception don’t worry it’s our error. Come on harbour St Ives get your act together as I don’t want to go back to the Treganna.

What a lovely spa! Friendly staff, great location, great facilities. Last minute spa visit was just the treat I needed! Had a gorgeous facial with Becky, woke myself up by snoring! Finished with the best beef roast dinner upstairs in the restaurant. We’ll be back as soon as we can. 😊
