We took my very elderly mother away for a short break and Louise and Simon really made her feel at home, and nothing was too much trouble. I like the relaxed feeling of staying there, they really did want us to treat it like our own home. The bedrooms rooms were very comfortable and spacious, and the lounge and bar... More

So, In September 2015 my partner and I booked a weekend away with friends at this place for January, 2016. Both couples are looking forward to a long weekend away in 4 months time. We organise time off work, shift cover, etc. as we thought that 3/4 months would be enough notice. We receive an e-mail in November 2015 explaining... More

I am very sorry that you had a poor experience with the cottages. I am afraid that the Cottages are nothing whatsoever to do with Barclay House and have not been since summer 2015. The cottages were all sold when the company went into liquidation 2014 and are owned and managed completely separately. I will pass on your concerns to... More

Louise & Simon the hosts are so welcoming & hospitable, we stayed in a beautiful room with a view overlooking the estuary. Barclay house has a very relaxed atmosphere, it is a home with family, a dog & cat who are lovely too. The staircase is beautiful, the whole place is tastefully decorated. Louise puts out a lovely breakfast, fresh... More

We booked this place based on location and especially the views it offered. The access is extremely steep and slippery in the wet. The most damning occurrence was the the beds were literally alive with BED BUGS. Disgusting!! there was also food trodden into a carpet. The final straw was that the bathroom looked to not have been cleaned. All... More

The website for the cottages refers to access to Barclay House including a bar and Wi-Fi. This is not true. The house is under new owners who are renovating the property and begrudgingly tolerated our presence. The cottages are great but in the modern world would benefit from Wi-Fi. The very steep access road to the parking is at risk... More

We stayed in Trevillis Cottage as the hotel is now a private house. The cottage was really lovely with nice rooms, pleasant outside area and a balcony with fantastic views. It is very close to Looe but unless you are a fit healthy adult or are happy to drive I wouldn't recommend it. To get to Looe you have to... More

Stayed for a week at Pendruffle Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. From the peace and tranquility of the cottage to the fabulous view this little hideaway takes some beating. We had read a earlier review and were aware the cottage was no longer linked to a Hotel which to us gave us the privacy and solitude that we... More

These cottages have now all been bought by private owners. Away from the hands of the asset stripping company they are now being bought back to 4 star standard. Its a beautiful location. By the way, the hotel is no longer a hotel. We stayed at Little Larnick which we found on cottages4you.

I have stayed here in the past (both in the hotel and the grounds whcih were converted into cottages) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It seems that the hotel has had a troubled year, all the staff were let go which is sad. I wanted to book for this year but was told the hotel has now closed until further notice... More
