We had been exploring Chester for most of the morning/early afternoon. We were down by the river and headed back up into town to find somewhere for a quick drink. Wanted a proper 'Chester' pub as apposed to a chain. Feels like your experiencing more of the local life that way. Anyway, excellent little place, very friendly staff, good choice... More

What a lovely little pub :) We unexpectedly came here for dinner tonight and what a great place. The gentleman who served us was pleasant, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was nice and we all cleared our plates Thank you for a lovely evening out

Five stars really isn't enough for how amazing this place was, the staff are beyond fantastic, they really couldn't go out of their way to make your stay more perfect. Anything that you asked was done with a smile, laugh and a joke. The food was out of this world, if your on a diet that will soon be put... More

Loved staying here. My parents and I shared a room on the top floor. It was so cool to stay in such a historic building and all the staff were so darling and super helpful. There was free off-street parking and we were right in the middle of everything there was to see in the short time that we were... More

We went to Chester to meet friends and have a day of shopping, eating and drinking. We checked in and the staff were very friendly and welcoming and showed us to our room which was room 2. We were already aware of the parking situation, leaving keys with owner and cost of £10 so we decided to park at the... More

We stayed there last night (August 2016) and our experience was horrific. Everything was kind of ok and as expected - it's an old building so you expect it to be a bit small, hot and smelly. That's ok and was expected but when we came to go to bed there was a disco or party of some sort in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid December 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
