It was meant to be the highlight of our weekend visiting Chester, a town full of history and all the online marketing agreed that the Chester Grosvenor would have been the cherry on cake as far as a visit to this historical town. We booked the four poster suite and an executive room. The executive room did not disappoint. Whilst it was tired, shabby, it lived to its promise of having all the amenities as marketed being present and functioning. However the four poster room was beyond disgrace. Wine, coffee, tea, juice and a combination of all stains around the four poster bed. On the side of the bed, clear stains on both the bed cover and the sheets and the furniture. Upon entry we were welcomed with the foulest stench that came from the kitchen through the air vents and that stench unfortunately did not go away and was still present well into the morning. In terms on amenities, compared to the executive room we missing the complimentary water and we missed the complimentary sparkling water. The tap water was cloudy and did not allow our children to consume that. This Tudor hotel packed with its history and architectural design was severely lacking because service attention to detail, basic amenities, basic checks were either not carried out, rushed through, or of a substandard. It is not a five star. It is not a four star. It is not a three star like the holiday inn, or the travel lodge. Because over there they all meet the basics of hospitality and strive for consistency always and improvements.

Dreadful stay. We booked two rooms at an exuberant cost, so we were expecting great things! Was really looking forward to a relaxing family stay at this so called five star hotel. However, on entering both rooms it was clear, standards were low, so low I would have rated this hotel no more than two stars based on the state of the rooms. Tired and shabby rooms, with marks on walls, dirty carpet, scuffs on the woodwork, dust everywhere, stains on the cushions, bedspread and both rooms in clear need of refurbishment. It was actually so disgusting the children wanted to leave and go somewhere else. We didn't use the cups or anything as they were all filled with dust. The decor was extremely bizarre and absolutely not what was expected as per their website, we felt utterly deceived. Upon entering the hotel, you do think you are staying in luxury, but don't be deceived, the rooms definitely don't meet standards or expectations. The rooms we had were also picked up all the noise from the partygoers on the street below, it was so loud. Chester town centre is party town, be warned! Not a quiet stay. We have no idea how this place got five stars. Breakfast was basic and not worth the price. Three of our party didn't eat breakfast due to not trusting the standards of the hotel. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Locator is spectacular. Room was superb, check in and out staff were a credit. Breakfast was also pleasantly pleasing. However trying to get a drink in the hotel bar was a real letdown. Long wait to be seated, limited service and surprisingly poor selection for a bar. We would definitely recommend heading out to any number of infinitely better nearby places.

We booked an overnight stay as a surprise for my parents on there Golden Wedding anniversary and also booked a meal for 12 in the Brasserie in the evening. My parents are quite particular so arranging a surprise was stressful but the team where nothing short of fabulous. I dealt with Hannah in advance looking at various options, then the lovely Kelly finalised arrangements for us and Ruby and the amazing restaurant team ensured my parents had an evening to remember. Every detail was perfect, the room was beautiful, the space for pre-dinner drinks was ideal and the table for dinner was in a discrete corner with a private dining feel. The food was beautiful but it was the service that really made all the difference. You really have a most fabulous team that do the hotel proud. Thank You!

Stayed overnight on a busy Saturday night in Chester. Lovely greeting from reception and concierge, interested and professional and set the scene. Were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite and it was hugely impressive and perfectly prepared for us. A quick cocktail in the brasserie then out for dinner. Engaging staff and high service standards evident. Had a delicious breakfast before heading home. So nice to have a fully served fresh breakfast. Again lots of staff interaction demonstrated why this is a 5 star awarded hotel. Highly recommended as a touch of luxury on a visit to Chester. The connected public car park was ideal. Thanks for s great night away!

This is a beautiful hotel located right in the heart of Chester. The perfect spot to explore the city. The bedrooms and general decor are of a very high standard and the service from the staff is courteous and helpful. However, the hotel DOES NOT make you aware until you check in that the breakfast included is only continental and that there is an additional supplement of £9.50 per person if you want ‘full English’. This really is disappointing when you have already splashed out on a pretty expensive night away. In fact we simply refused to pay the extra and took continental breakfast in our room. Even this was pretty basic with the generic boxed cereals and two tiny pastries each. In addition to the upset of the breakfast you should also note that the air conditioning units make a whirring noise all night long, even if the air con is switched off. If you are a light sleeper like myself it will almost certainly lead to a broken nights sleep. Again, the hotel are fully aware of the situation but they choose not to do anything about it, or indeed warn you on booking. So some pluses and some definite minuses. I would certainly never stay at the Grosvenor again.

We walked by one evening and asked the gentleman on the door if we could call in just for drinks, he was extremely pleasant and invited us in. The bar and dining area was beautiful and the bar staff fabulous. The young men knew their stuff and had great personalities. I am now working on the husband for a night or two there.

Lovely hotel and deco . The waitress taking our order got 3 out of 4 of our drink orders wrong ( she was memorising the order) . Perhaps writing it down would have been better? We only ordered 4 drinks and 3 of them were wrong. We didn’t bother correcting her. She was very pleasant to be fair but I won’t be in a rush to come back. First time for me to go to the Grosvenor so I was excited but I won’t be rushing back.

We stayed here originally for one night but had to change to two after our other hotel let us down. The rooms are comfortable and we slept really well. The staff are fantastic going the extra mile to help us. The cocktails were fab in the restaurant. The only negative was breakfast service was slow and we kept having to ask again for things they had forgotten. Great location

Booked an executive room and what was expected from the booking pictures was not what we got. Pretty average Malmaison room really. Standard bath and shower. Open the curtains to look at scaffolding and only option of moving they wanted an extra £900. Would we return 100% not and I have only just arrived.
