The Berkeley Square Hotel boasts a prime location that many guests find perfect for discovering Bristol's attractions. However, some travelers express disappointment with the value, pointing to high prices for less-than-ideal conditions. While the hotel's atmosphere and amenities like complimentary sherry and fruit are charming, issues with maintenance and noise levels have marred the experience for several guests. Reviews are mixed on the rooms—some commend the spotless and refurbished spaces, while others encounter dated or unclean environments. Service quality also varies, though the staff often receive accolades for their friendliness.

We booked to stay for two nights on a wet weekend in February - and had a wonderful visit. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful, including a call beforehand to check if we had any requests and to let us know that there was an event on each night of our stay. Unfortunately that meant we couldn't use the bar (which looked lovely) but it didn't interfere with our stay otherwise. Our room (one of the suites around the corner from the hotel) was absolutely gorgeous - everything from nice bedlinen to a comfy sofa, and a great mini kitchen hidden in a cupboard. The bathroom had a strong shower, there was a bowl of fruit provided, and even some Bristol cream sherry. I loved the Elemis products in the bathroom. Overall a great stay, I would recommend the hotel and would definitely return.

I stayed in a suite (no.4) last week with my two teenage children. I cannot fault the rooms. We had a living area and a separate bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was very glamorous, glass doors, modern appliances set alongside the Georgian architecture, very nice. The bed was comfortable and of a standard one would expect. The living area was well thought out, with comfortable furniture and a projector on the wall (you can log into your own apps, Netflix and so on…remember to log out!). There is a pantry which is a new one on me, with the usual tea and coffee, plus a small bottle of milk in the fridge. There was also a selection of teas, some fresh coffee, pods and a machine. In addition, there was an electric hob, a sink, and plates and cutlery and so on. They even provide some dried pasta etc, plus pans if needed. There was also a beautiful complimentary bowl of fruit, with a variety of genuinely fresh crisp fruit, even a just-right mango! The staff were all very pleasant and friendly, there if you needed them but not in your face. One of the best hotels I have stayed in to be honest. Tiny fault-as there were three of us my son stayed on a camp bed in the living room. The mattress was flatter than the flattest pancake. I let reception know. A small fault, but I suspect an adult would not tolerate a night’s sleep on it! The hotel is well placed for exploring the city. It sits at the top of Park Street which is great for all sorts of shopping and eating and is a short walk from College Green/the Hippodrome etc.

After reading through the other reviews I’ve come to the conclusion that the quality of your stay will depend entirely on what room you get, and, if your travelling solo there’s a higher probability you’ll have a terrible experience. I feel my first mistake was believing the website, this is NOT a 4 star hotel, just look at the pictures I’ve posted and draw your own conclusions, nor do the rooms look anything like the website photos. I stayed for two nights in two different rooms and did not got a single good nights sleep. Thinking back, when I checked in there was a lady in front of me changing rooms, I think I now know why. The first room (Room 32) I had, the heating was permanently on. I arrived about 6ish, went out for food and turned the thermostat down when I got back thinking the thermostat was connected to the radiator. All through the night I was baking hot, maybe the hotel thought I was a chicken that needed to be roasted. Needless to say I originally thought maybe I hadn’t set the thermostat correctly so changed it again in the morning thinking it’ll be cooler when I get back. But nooooooo, it was still 24 degrees at which point I raised this with reception. I returned to the reception and was informed the heating had been turned off for the entire floor….yes that’s correct the entire floor. I said this was unacceptable, what if got cold and what would happen in the morning? Anyway the receptionist said they would contact the manager. I was subsequently offered another room but nothing for the inconvenience or distress of having a terrible nights sleep. Note to hotel, customer service should be a high priority, I will be returning to Bristol regularly and will NOT be staying in your hotel, nor will I recommend it to any of my colleagues. The second room (Room 44) was at least 1 degree cooler so I guess there’s that. But it was still hot (by this point I was just too tired to complain again), the windows didn’t close properly and it seemed like I was a street level (I was actually on the top floor) from the noise, there were stains on the bed, the shower was utter rubbish, first scolding me and then freezing me like an ice cube, and my room was right next to the lift and I had clunking noises every time it was used. Before booking, look back through the reviews and check the dates and manager comments. Interestingly I’m not the first to raise some of these points, yet the response is the comments will be taken under advisement.

Dear Gavster, Thanks for taking your time to let us know about your experience with us. First of all, I have investigating the rooms pictures and I would like to confirm that both of the rooms that you mention are single room occupancy. As you probably noticed, we are in the process of a refurbishment. We are about to complete all the double occupancy rooms very soon and after that, we will renovate our single rooms. The thermostats in the rooms are used to set up the maximum temperature that you would like your radiator to be heating to. Unfortunately, to cool down in a quicker way, you could open the window as this does not produce cold air. I apologise if the thermostat in your room appeared to be faulty, we have addressed this as a matter of urgency. Our intention is to keep everyone warm during winters and this can sometime be a tricky balance. As you mentioned, next time please feel free to inform reception so they could assist you fixing your thermostat if it was broken or moving rooms like the lady before you. I personally take every of my guests feedback very seriously as constructive feedbacks help us to keep improving. I would like to apologise for such a negative experience and would like to accommodate you in the future in one of our new refurbished rooms or in those rooms again once they are being renovated to turn your experience into a positive one. Best Wishes Miguel

Few little issues.... booked this particular hotel as it had parking....Bristol is tricky so we thought this would be perfect. A day before our stay I had an email to say there was going to be an 'event' taking place during our stay so there might be some noise. It turned out to be a wedding (which would have been booked months in advance so they knew when I booked it might be a problem) We arrived to find there was zero parking because of the wedding. We then had to search for parking ending up in an NCP a 10 minute walk away costing quite a bit! Not allowed in bar because of wedding either which was a shame. I asked for a quiet room but the music was sooooo loud there can't have been any quiet area at all to escape to. It stopped at midnight but very late for me. Toilet was filthy on arrival, pebble dashed poop (did take a pic but will spare you) We phoned to ask them to clean it which they did. The receptionist had to clean it though as no housekeeping staff around. Hairdryer didn't work, bathroom extractor didn't work. Shower either boiling hot or freezing cold, no middle balance. Comfy big bed, coffee, tea, biccies, even a glass of sherry which is nice (if you like sherry lol)

The hotel was great - quiet, clean, friendly, lot of character. My uncle unfortunately slipped and fell badly on the pavement just outside the hotel when he came for dinner - Paris on the reception desk was just brilliant in looking after him and organising assistance while continuing to deal with other guests, until help arrived. I’m most grateful for all she did. Thank you! Miguel the manager was also very helpful the next day. My thanks to them both and the other staff.

We had a fantastic one night stay at The Berkeley Square hotel. We chose it for its perfect location for going out in Park Street to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. I thought it was very good value for money for the location - the room was clean and cosy and the lounge area warm and bright. The Reception team were so welcoming and kind to my daughter and even surprised her with an 18th birthday card and bottle of fizz! Above and beyond are words that come to mind. Thank you - you couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful!

The location of the hotel is super. I walked to many must see locations in the Bristol. The room was very cozy and clean with an economic price 😁. And the surprise was the breakfast included . I would rather called it main dish because it was very well made! The best I have ever 😃! The staff are amazing. Many thanks to Vineta who was very helpful and took good care of my staying. Will be back if I travel to Bristol.

Was welcomed to the hotel by very nice, helpful and professional staff (Paris and Hannah). They are a great asset to your team. Will stay again.
