Where to begin? Magnificent, superb, fabulous, 100% recommended! How often do you get the chance to stay in a castle? How often do you get to sleep in a four-poster bed? We stayed for one night in the Archbishops Room on the third floor at the top of the tower. The room itself has magnificent views on two sides and... More

This was a very nice stay for us. The hosts were very inviting and the rooms were quite substantial, clean with nice bathrooms. There was a nice view of the bay from the dining room. The castle itself is tastefully decorated. We had a great dinner at the pub up the hill that was recommended by our hosts. There were... More

We stayed for one night and I had low expectations as I had seen some negative reviews prior to booking and I also thought that the castle interior looked a little dark and dreary from the photos on the web (I believe that the website is being updated). However, as my father in law grew up in the general area,... More

I had the 'army' room which has a small balcony and a super view over the harbour. Lovely room, terrific interior to the hotel and good breakfast - I highly recommend a stay here, for the views but also because it's a very comfortable hotel.

We stayed for two nights in the Archbishop room. Beautiful view, modern bathroom with a great shower. The bed was very comfortable and the room was plenty spacious for our two children also. The castle has been lovingly restored. The breakfast was very tasty and the Czech server was so kind and friendly. I highly recommend the Castle and must... More

The Castle in Castletownshend overlooks the harbour. You can sit on the wall or in your room and watch local lobster fishermen pottering in their boats or yachts coming or going with French or British crews aboard and some Irish presumably. Recently refurbished and under the new management of a new younger generation of the Townshend family. An ideal stop... More

This place has been completely refurbished, and now run by a young couple who are absolutely wonderful, very warm and welcoming. The highlight of anyone's Wild Atlantic way. Every room, door, piece of furniture is stunning, even the toilet seats are works of art! A castle with all the comforts of the very best hotels in an idyllic location of... More

Stayed for a couple of nights. Welcome was cool, just functional with no great warmth. Room had good views of the estuary of Union Hall. Rather old-fashioned grandeur which was fun, with four poster bed. The beds were comfy and shower was clean. Breakfast was somewhat spartan [but nicely cooked], which considering the prices was a shock, some homemade bread... More

B&B in a fascinating old castle run by a descendant of the family that gave its name to the local village. Can't beat the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon (from a local smokery) for breakfast! Don't be put off by the ancient exterior stonework - the central heating and plumbing are excellent!

A beautiful old castle right on the estuary. Full of history. We stayed in the Arch Bishop Room which was double aspect overlooking the estuary. A very interesting stay but only one pub/restaurant in the actual village. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a good selection of breakfast available.
