We had a spectacular time at the Klahoose Wilderness Resort. Yes, the food (and fresh local beer!) were fantastic, and the environment itself is breathtakingly beautiful—jaw dropping, really—but it’s the genuinely caring staff who really sets this place apart. Shout out to everyone, but especially amazing Leon and Roger, our boat captains/guides. Both are so knowledgeable about the area and cultural history. As Californians, we loved learning about Canada’s First Nation for the first time, and hearing about Leon’s life and family traditions, which he shared generously. In the evenings, we gathered around the lodge table to talk story and to learn how to carve wood with Randy, which was really special and chill. He was so patient and encouraging. Never done that before, but it made me want to get my own carving knife to keep getting better…really Zen. Closing traditional ceremony with our whole group made me tear up; I’ll never forget it.

The room itself was good enough, a bit loud near the property’s washer & dryer set up, but we spend almost all our time outside anyway so it wasn’t a big deal. SUP and kayaks, loved it! Porch with rocking chairs facing the sunny water was a delight, as was the hand built sauna (!) that we went in every single day and night. I am a surfer so being wet is part of my DNA. Swimming in the water just off the dock…probably the cleanest, most perfect water I have ever experienced, ever.

We are definitely coming back next summer for more of this magic. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience at Klahoose Wilderness Resort! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the fantastic food, breathtaking environment, and, most importantly, the genuinely caring staff. Leon and Roger are indeed treasures, and we're delighted they could enhance your understanding of the area's cultural history. Absolutely incredible experience!

First off, I want to be transparent about the fact that I was there on a work trip to capture the experience that the Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers through photo and video, so take this review with a grain of salt if you so choose. Despite it being a job I felt compelled to share my experience here.

The resort itself sits in an amazing location, being (relatively) simple to access yet still feeling incredibly remote while you're there. Even in the peak of summer it was rare to see any sign of other people in the area. The waters of Homfray Channel are warm, clear, and filled with wildlife. In our short stay we say Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, Humpbacks, Grizzly Bears, sea-lions, seals, all sorts of birds and more.

The staff was all very kind and hospitable and I really appreciated the authenticity of the cultural interpreters!! Right away it felt as-though they were friends showing you around their home rather than any sort of performance or show. It really was an honour to be in their presence, listen to their stories, and to learn about their traditional practices. Amir was cooking up some incredible meals in the kitchen and the passion for his craft was shining through in each dish.

The new addition of a sauna on the dock is amazing! I'm a fan of saunas regardless but having it right on the ocean makes for an incredible experience, especially at night. A group of us stayed up late to swim in the bioluminescence and having that to warm up before and after made the experience even more spectacular than it otherwise would be.

All in all I can't say enough about my time there, it was truly special and will be something that I will cherish for years to come.

Hello Dolf, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. I really like when you say that it felt like friends showing you around there home, as this is exactly what we are doing! We are 100% indigenous owned by the Klahoose First Nation and goal is to create a space for sharing of their cultural will enjoying the all-inclusive resort and guided tours. Each one of our staff are excited to welcome each guests to their home in a truly genuine way. Further they willingness to share their cultural and tradition in an authentic way. And all this happens in a beautiful wilderness location surrounded by lush rain-forest, calm ocean and amazing wildlife. The images you captured of the experiences, wildlife and our incredible staff are just spectacular. We thank you for slowing down and listening to what our cultural team have to share and helping capture this precious time at Klahoose Resort in wonderful photographs that will help us showcase the resort for many years to come. We can't wait to welcome you again very soon! Thank you for the entire team at Klahoose Wilderness Resort!

Our amazing adventure at Klahoose Wilderness Resort began the moment we were picked up in Lund by Goat 1, the resort's flashy new water taxi. After a spectacular 40-minute boat ride up the sound to the resort, we disembarked and were warmly welcomed by the entire staff beating drums and singing a traditional Klahoose welcome. Sparkling wine, tea and scones provided welcome refreshment and the opportunity to relax and learn more about the various activities awaiting us before being escorted to our bright and spacious room. Paneled with rustic cedar and heated by a gas stove, our room offered a panoramic view of the sound and mountains beyond. All our meals were beautifully presented and included crisp greens, fresh caught prawns, and a variety of delicious comfort food. Our boat tour in search of wildlife (May is a bit early for most wildlife); hiking in the rain forest up a newly cleared trail behind the lodge (and a shorter scenic walk out to the point), learning to make cedar roses from strips of bark; and listening to stories of the Klahoose First Nations People provided a fascinating perspective on the history, art and culture of this beautiful landscape. Cannot emphasize enough how profoundly enriching these conversations were. A highlight of our trip. Staff provided caring, gracious service throughout our stay and it was not easy to leave after 4 days. We've traveled to many 5 star hotels and resorts, and I'd put Klahoose Wilderness Resort at the top of the list!

The boat travel was beautiful down the fiords and arriving at the site was lovely, remote and comfortable. We had well crafted meals and interesting excursions. We did not see as much wildlife as we hoped. We could swim off the large dock as the water was warm enough. We kayaked as well. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Early morning yoga on the dock was a highlight. It was just a bit pricey for our budget. We enjoyed the other guests and our long table dinners with interesting stories and discussions.

From the moment arriving at Klahoose Wilderness Resort, you know that you are somewhere special. Greeted by the welcoming staff and Indigenous song, the mood is set for a memorable experience. The location is incredible, all of the staff make you feel like you are part of the family, and the time spent in nature is a well need antidote after the past year. The cabins are very comfortable and spacious; I just wish that I had more time to chill on my balcony!

This is a perfect place to reconnect with friends/family and make new friends.

Thank you for the experience!

The resort provides amazing views, comfortable rooms and interesting excursions to view the grizzlies feeding on salmon in the Klite River at the head of Toba Inlet. The staff and guides were kind, accommodating, and good humoured, doing all they could to give the guests an exceptional experience. The food was fine, but we had expected more local, First Nations food. The boat “ The Goat” was very comfortable, affording good views to all aboard. ( And I never felt seasick!)

I recently spent 4 nights/5 days at Klahoose Wilderness Resort on a photography focused trip. I cannot say enough about the resort and the people that work there. The care they take to make sure every guest is taken care of shows every hour of the day. The chef prepares thoughtful meals, they always make sure you have everything you need and the rooms are beautiful.
Even more impressive are the cultural interpreters and the Klahoose members that take us to their land to observe the bears. Randy and his son spent every evening with us teaching and sharing their family and cultural history. During the day we had 3 amazing guides who not only got us the bear experience, but kept our safety the #1 concern. They communicated clearly and made sure we knew what to expect. They were constantly watching while we had our faces up to our cameras making sure our safety didn’t change. This continued at the resort cause even though we were near a building, we were still in bear country. As an added bonus we saw Humpbacks every day! I will visit again
(Ps..all bear photos taken with long lens and cropped)

This was the easiest 5 star I have ever given. The Klahoose Wilderness Resort deserves 10 stars if I could give it. Starting with the water taxi, the driver was friendly and funny, we pulled into the resort to a beautiful dock overlooking the water and mountains. It was heaven. I stayed in cabin 3, it was extremely spacious, beds were comfy, and had a deck out looking the inlet where I listened to the rain and watched the lightening over the mountains the first night I was there. What a welcoming! The staff were friendly and made us feel at home and warm, especially Randy who stole all of our hearts with his story telling, guidance through the tour, and craft teachings.
The food was Devine, every meal the plates were empty as everyone enjoyed what the staff had prepared. Tears fell as we said our goodbyes and we’re sent off with a song from the staff, I didn’t want to leave, but am so grateful for my time there. Thank you so much for my experience here, it was life changing and one I will never forget. I can’t wait to come back!

This was a once inn a lifetime experience for me. After 5 weeks already visiting much of the regular highlights of British Colombia and Alaska, you might have thought there was not much left to do.

The resort was located in an amazing area with easy access to a range of wilderness experiences. We expressly went for the viewing of bears in the wild at salmon running time. OMG! The location, access, guides and wildlife were beyond expectations.

Lodge experiences were also top class: friendly staff willing to meet all reasonable needs, great food, stunning views from rooms and public areas, intriguing experiences with very knowledgeable guides who kept our safety as primary concern.

A bonus was the willingness of staff to quickly take to the boat if there was a chance of close whale watching.

This wilderness area is a truely pristine, magnificent in its grandeur and Klahoose Lodge is the icing on the cake!

The lodge is in a beautiful setting and is clean with opportunities to interact with nature and Klahoose culture.

Communication prior and the booking process were seamless. The pick up and drop off process to and from Lund was excellent. The boat transfers to the lodge and to the bear viewing area was top notch and we felt safe. The captain took great pleasure in sharing information and taking us to waterfalls, pictograph sites, and beautiful spots on route. Our accommodation was excellent with lots of space. It was chilly at night so we had them turn on our gas heater. One of the cabins in the group had a broken heater (gas pipe capped) and had to use a noisy electric heater. The main lodge was spacious and comfortable. Food was excellent, as was the selection of beer and wine.

Bear viewing - Make sure you use bathrooms on the boat prior to transfer to the platforms. The viewing of bears was safe but at a distance and regular cameras / phones will not get excellent photos, and binoculars are necessary. There are tours that come over from Campbell River that also share the platforms putting pressure on this experience. Bears tended to move away slowly and if a day tour was at the platform previous, then this will lessen your experience. These days tours in my opinion are not fair to guests of Klahoose who have paid a large sum of money. Management should schedule Campbell River day tours only on Klahoose transfer days or every 3rd day.

All employees were friendly and professional. The people of Klahoose are proud people and enjoy sharing their culture.

PS we parked our vehicle @ Lund Parking which we booked online. We phoned when we arrived and he came right away as he is not there 24/7. He also had the car ready for us at the dock when we arrived back.

Thank you for sharing your detailed review! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Klahoose Wilderness Resort and that our staff made your experience with nature and Klahoose culture memorable. It's great to know that you appreciated the seamless booking and transfer process (thank you to Leanne in our reservations for this!), as well as the efforts of our guides and boat captains in showcasing the scenic beauty, of Desolation Sound, along the way. We’re also happy to hear you found the accommodation, food, and drink selection to your liking. Our team will be thrilled to hear this! Although Klahoose Wilderness Resort is remote and off-grid, we’re glad you found it easy to reach. The pick-up and drop-off process in Lund, along with the covered boat transfers to the lodge and the Toba Inlet grizzly bear viewing areas, are designed to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey. We're pleased that you felt safe and appreciated the added experiences, like visiting waterfalls, pictograph sites, and other beautiful spots along the way. It’s great to hear your Lund parking experience was smooth as well. We appreciate your feedback about the bear viewing. Our team strives to offer a safe and enriching wildlife viewing experience, and we understand your thoughts on managing our different bear viewing platforms. Your suggestion regarding the scheduling of tours will be taken into consideration as we work to ensure the best change to viewing bears and wildlife for all of our resort guests. We're sorry to hear about the heater issue in one of the cabins. I am sure its been addressed by now, but we will follow-up with our team to ensure that all cabins are as comfortable as possible. Thank you for mentioning this, as your feedback helps us improve. We hope to welcome you back to Klahoose Wilderness Resort and again thank you for adding your review! Thank you for your questions here. Our tours are "soft adventure" and involve travelling by covered boat, moving around docks and boat ramps and the stairs on the fixed bear viewing platforms and resort. The grizzly bear viewing is by covered viewing platforms and is safe and comfortable way to watch the Grizzly Bears catching salmon in their natural habitat. There is plenty to enjoy during the stay with the scheduled wildlife tours, cultural activities. Active adventure like hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, ocean swimming are optional things guests can do as an extra activities however many guests will also enjoy being the solitude of the rainforest, along the calm ocean and enjoy the scenery from the boat or resort dock or deck and just chatting with our cultural interpreters and friendly staff. I hope this helps and that we can welcome you and your mother sometime soon to Klahoose Wilderness Resort! You can also call us toll free at 1-833-44-3838 if you would like to speak to us about the experiences and stay. Thank you!

We have a one year old child, would the cruise/accommodations be suitable?
Vancouver, Canada9 contributions
Hi Emily, Our Homfray Explorer Cruise, which is 3 nights and 4 days is suitable for a young child. There is less time cruising, and some families skip the Toba Inlet Cruise on Day 2 since its more adult orientated as we cruise in small ship. You can stay and relax at Homfray Lodge where there are paddle boards, kayaks, ocean swimming, short hikes. I hope this helps but please contact us to answer any more questions. Thank you! Chris

If you stay in September is the Bear viewing good ?
Vancouver, Canada9 contributions
Hi Judith, Thank you for asking about bear viewing in September. Yes, September is the best time of year to see Grizzly Bears from Homfray Lodge. The Grizzly Bears begin feeding on salmon in nearby Toba Inlet, as they spawn on the river which begins in late August and runs through early October. September is perfect time to view the bears feeding in their natural habitat. Chris
