The lodge is located on Desolation Sound and accessible only by boat. It supplies its own electricity and water. The stay was exceptional and attributable to the skill and enthusiasm of the small staff who do everything. Rooms are available in the main lodge and cabins. We had a huge room in the lodge. Food provided by an excellent chef is exceptional and communal. There are things to do such as swimming and kayaking but for us bear watching was the main attraction in Toba inlet accessible by boat and guided by First Nation people. This is an unusual experience and well worth it.

Our favourite getaway this summer was a visit to Homfray Lodge in Desolation Sound. The trip began with a scenic boat ride from Lund to the lodge where we were greeted by their welcoming staff. The lodge itself is stunning and beautiful but the super friendly and attentive crew and staff at the lodge made our experience extra special. I travelled with my two kids (14 and 12 years old) and they loved every minute of it. Highlights of our stay included: visit to the Petroglyphs by boat, stand-up paddle boarding along the beautiful shorelines, jumps in to the ocean and amazing food throughout the day. I highly recommend the lodge for families!

We had perfect weather which meant that the flight, pick up at The airport and transfer to Lund went smoothly. Then there is a 2.5 hours up to the Lodge by boat wihere we got to know our fellow travellers and drinks/snacks served by Normand. Greeted by the staff we were taken to our lodge which had 2 double bed rooms plus more beds upstairs in the loft area. The lodges are comfortable no frills like hair dryer but quiet and roomy Appetisers at 6 with drinks each evening and excellent food - let them know any preferences in advance. Our second day we set off early to Toba Inlet to see the bear. Only one that day patrolling the river but we were positioned by the guides to get maximum sightings Back to the lodge for free time in the sun. Last day ride back to Lund and the plane An excellent trip. More bears would have been a plus but that is wildlife for you. Whales orca and dolphins out on the sound on the far side. Wonderful Clear starlit sky at night

Stayed 3 nights at the lodge as part of a Pacific Coastal Cruises tour. Pros: --unbelievable views from the main lodge. --quiet, serene. --large floating dock: perfect place to hang out. Umbrellas and chairs located there. --can't say enough about how helpful/friendly the staff was. --we stayed in a chalet, which had a balcony looking right out onto the water. --chalets are large, with plenty of room to spread out. --special kudos to John, who took us on a wonderful nature hike of the grounds and explained the workings of a remote resort, then later a zodiac tour which included a hike to a gorgeous cascading creek. --great food. Every meal was different and every one was special. --free use of paddle boards and kayaks. Cons: nothing worth mentioning. I will note a couple of things just for future guests to keep in mind: --no hair dryers provided, so bring your own. --body wash, shampoo, conditioner provided. No other extras such as lotion, make- up remover, shower cap. --there are some time limitations on when you can use your hair dryer or other items with heaters, due to their power system: no use at night and before about 7 a.m. --no extensive hiking trails. --no air conditioning, which is probably not a problem the big majority of the time. They do provide standing fans.

Thank you for your detailed summary of your time with Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours and your stay at Homfray Lodge! It sounds like you had a perfect getaway, and yes we are tucked away in Desolation Sound, so the location offers unbelievable views, and is also quiet and serene. Sounds like you had the perfect balance of relaxing, but also some time on some of the boat tours, stand up paddle boards and kayaks, just enough to keep you active, but not too busy. Thanks as well for the outline of some of the things to keep in mind. Our staff will also be thrilled to hear about how helpful and friendly they where. We hope you will visit again sometime soon up here in Desolation Sound. Chris, Mollie and the team at Homfray Lodge and crew of the Pacific Bear.
