Detailed Reviews
I was lucky enough to stay at Bear Cove Cottages for an extended duration (4 months) while working in the North Island area. I couldn't have asked for a better place to call home during this time.
I stayed in Cottage #3 and the room itself had everything I needed to ensure a comfortable stay. This included a comfortable bed, a fully functional kitchenette ( (stove, microwave, pots, pans, coffeemaker), a fireplace, and more.
The bathroom was also clean and the shower had impressive water pressure which didn't go unnoticed after a long day of work. Towels and additional necessities were also available in the storage and laundry room (located a few doors down).
The cable television and wi-fi also allowed me to stay comfortable, connected, and capable of doing work from home when needed. Although, shutting these amenities off and enjoying the peace and quiet offered by the north island was favoured more often than not.
The peaceful cottages also offer a great view of Hardy Bay's outskirts and are a stone's throw away from the water and ferry terminal. Additionally, if you have a vehicle (which I'm assuming you do) you can get to downtown Port Hardy in 5-10 minutes, or travel South and take in some amazing sights at Storeys Beach,. You can also experience a bit of north island Indigenous culture at the famous site of Fort Rupert (Tsaxis), which I highly recommend paying a visit to!
All in all, you can't find a better place to call your home away from home than Bear Cove Cottages if you're considering a visit to Northern Vancouver Island. Shannon and Wade Daley are excellent hosts who respond promptly to questions and were always there when needed.
I look forward to my next stay at Bear Cove Cottages - one which will hopefully include an epic fishing story and a day trip to Cape Scott, which I regret not taking the time to visit when I had the chance!

My partner and I stayed at Bear Cove Cottages and went fishing with Captain Wade - great fishing & even better guiding.
Wade made catching our biggest fish yet seem easy!
We were delighted to go home with a cooler full of our catch of salmon , halibut and canary rockfish all cleaned, portioned, vacuum sealed and frozen for us overnight - talk about fresh frozen ! Thanks Wade , you got us hooked on wild west coast fishing. We will be back !

We stayed at Bear Cove Cottages for two nights and went on one fishing charter. It was amazing, the fishing charter, with Wicked Salmon Fishing Charters started out early morning. The charter guide was Toby he was awesome, skilled and knew where the fish were. We caught 83 pounds of fish and Toby helped us reel them in. We were so pleased with the charter and the cabin. The cottage is well appointed with awesome ocean view and the boat was spacious and perfect. We were so happy with our salmon and halibut catch plus it was taken care of packaged up and frozen. We highly recommend Bear Cove and Wicked Salmon Charter fishing.

stayed as a getaway for 3 nights but with a 2 nite min. had to stay anyway, had to clean coffee maker for quite a while till usable, window above bed handle broken so could only open then had to go outside to close by pushing it.
window in kitchen needs new blind, for cleaning would give 2/5 stars
view of ocean is wonderful and seemed to be very quiet at nite.
if you sleep in forget it no way to block skylight so up early no matter what.
seems catered to the fishing charter, even chatted to neighbor and they also agreed 3/5 stars.
won’t return.

We are sorry you left feeling this way Michael. My cleaning staff had told me you thought the window was broken. It actually has a lever that needs to be in the upward position to open the seal.We installed all high-end Loewen windows when building 20 years ago.You are one of very few who didn't notice this.We have since replaced the uneven blind, these things happen and we appreciate that you let us know. Most people really enjoy the skylight, or perhaps we do have mostly early risers at our resort. We are generally marketing to fishermen, you're right. After having 85% of our pre-booked clients ripped out from under us this year, we had to use creative and last minute advertising to attract a new client. This summer has been challenging to say the least, but we are grateful to have stayed very busy. Staffing has been a huge issue also, this may explain why your coffee pot was not perfect, for that I apologize. If you had come to our office, called, emailed about your dissatisfaction, we would have likely rectified this and come to a financial understanding. So thanks for the 3/5, this really helps! Best,Shannon

I booked the cottage and 2 days of fishing for my husbands birthday. I know nothing about fishing and Shannon was very helpful in getting me familiar with what the cottages and Wicked Fishing charters had to offer. The cottages are lovely and have nice updated touches. Check in staff was inexperienced but suspect that is due to pandemic and challenging gets in even getting staff in move remote locations. She did check with owners when asked for info. Location is fabulous...good view and very quiet. Due to Covid we had preferred this to a fishing lodge but would do it this way again even without a pandemic as it suited us perfectly. Our Fishing guide Toby was awesome and really worked hard at making sure our Two days were successful. He was helpful and geared his conversation to both of us even though I was a ‘non fishing person’. The packing of the fish went smoothly and we had a very good experience. We will definitely be back.

Just got back from 2 days at Bear Cove cottages in Port Hardy. What a beautiful place! Our cottage was so comfortable and cozy and the view was awesome. Went fishing with Wicked Salmon charters. Captain Toby made our fishing outing a once in a lifetime experience. Caught tons of salmon, halibut, rockfish and lingcod, all cleaned, portioned and frozen, ready to bring home with us.
Thank you Bear Cove Cottages and Wicked Salmon charters for the most amazing time ever.

Never fished for Salmon and Halibut before and was fortunate to find Bear Cove Cottages and fishing tours. Had a 2 Day 3 night package August long weekend 2020. Captain Wade showed me and my two daughters the art of fishing and finding fish. No detail was too much work for our Captain. Our enjoyment was his mission.
Cottages were very comfortable with everything you need to have a super relaxing time off the water.

+1
I have been to Port Hardy a few times on fishing trips and it was first time this year with Bear Cove and Wicked Salmon. Easily the best of the bunch. It is the entire package that delivers on the full experience, boatful of fish, clean comfortable cottages, great local food, very knowledgeable, experienced guides that are super fun that kept us on par to bring the fish in including two double headers where we landed both fish!!! Not kidding. Ask me for the video of one of the fish jumping out the water on top of the other line and the calm voice of Wade talking us off the ledge and getting the two 20lb+ Springs in the boat!!!

The accommodations were first class and as advertised, The cottages had great views of the sunrise over Bear Cove. The fishing was equally spectacular. Whether we were relaxing at the cottages or fishing on the comfortable boats our time was memorable.

Another truly wicked vacation!!
Cant beat the stay I just had at Bear Cove Cottages.
The location on North Vancouver Island is second to none. We went out for two days stellar fishing with Wicked Salmon, excellent accommodation in the cabins and great hospitality all round.
Thank you Wade and Shannon!
We will see you again next year.
