Visited after a walk around Carsington Water. Saturday lunchtime opens until 2pm, but we arrived just after as a group of 20 plus and they served us until 3! Really accommodating staff and if I say 'acorn antiques' when you visit you will know what I am talking about! Enjoyable visit in an old pub with a long history! This... More

I love this pub and have been in a few times over the years. It must have one of the most original and unspoilt interiors of any pub in Britain. The beer is excellent and served to perfection. The elderly proprietors are fine and happy to tell you about the history of the pub, which is very interesting. However on... More

Called in last week for a pint after at least 30 years since my previous visit. It was exactly as I remembered it. There are no pumps on the bar, the selection of 3 or 4 real ales come direct from barrels on a shelf behind the bar. Seating areas are three separate small rooms in this ancient looking stone... Lovely old pub, unspoilt and quirky. Real ales served from the barrel. Recommend the Hartington India Pale Ale. An open fire, and table tops made from billiard tables make the place really unique. The only twenty first century concessions are electricity and inside toilets. A real feel of Merry Old England.

During a walking tour of the Peak District and surroundings I had the pleasure of spending a night at The Barley Mow Inn in Kirk Ireton I had heard of the inn through the internet where people spoke highly of its simple, rustic and friendly atmosphere. I booked accommodation there and I was not disappointed. Tony and Mary Short, the... More

On holiday with friends, we walked from Shottle to Carsington Water, and came across the Barley Mow Inn on our route. At first we were not sure if it was open, as it looks like an old house. The bar almost seems like it is in someones front room, and the beers on offer were not like the beers you... More

What to expect. A bed, a bathroom, tv , tea/coffee making facilities and breakfast all to an average standard and you will not be disappointed. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in the twin room and once you become use to Mary, Jenny and Tony(owners) they are actually very sweet with good hearts and really love their beautiful village... One day in Carsington the mist came down and you couldnt see ten feet in front; there were Derbyshire sights to be seen but you couldnt see them one this day so we took refuge in the Barley Mow, where the fire was lit. Great local ales in casks served through a little hatch, big dog wandering through, we sat... More

My friends and I visited the pub a few weeks ago. It would not be to everyones taste as it is a very old and quirky pub but well worth the visit. It was like stepping back in time. Its a family run pub and the owners are very friendly.

We were staying in a cottage at Kirk Ireton to let in the New Year. We wandered into the Barley Mow which is just as it is described in the other reviews. Very Quirky with a small hatch where the beer is served from a jug. Only enough to seat about 20 people but everyone was very friendly. At about... More
