First: I don't often take the time to write reviews and when I do, RARELY leave a 5 star review for anything, I think it's kinda cheesy and I feel like people probably write it off as fake.

So having said all that, I am taking the time because Maravilla deserves every bit of 5 stars in my opinion.

If you've looked at pictures and read reviews then you know that Maravilla is a unique place. Beautiful, very well done, well maintained elegantly rustic tree house "Robinson Crusoe-esque, type of place.

The cabinas are so cool, very comfortable, clean, airy, and cozy. Mosquito nets are provided however honestly because of the constant refreshing breeze coming off the ocean all night are not really needed. But a very thoughtful gesture.

We stayed in the treehouse family bungalow that has two levels, it has a jump off platform right into the pool for refreshing morning plunges after a night of incredible slumber, lulled to sleep by waves breaking on the beach 150 feet away.

My experience of the staff is that they were all fun, helpful and accommodating. I am working on becoming more fluent with Spanish and all the people were more than happy to patiently entertain my efforts, give encouraging feedback but also helpful correction. That's a rarity in my experience.

I was also so fortunate to have an opportunity to do an hour yoga session with Clemence the manager/on site yoga instructor. What a delightful person she is! and what an incredible experience. The one hour felt more like five, and was so incredibly relaxing, calming, centering....ALL the things I needed in that moment to ground myself and set the remainder of my voyage on such a positive track.

I agree with other reviewers the beach is gorgeous, it is also quite private, not crowded like beaches down in Cabarete. Night time fires are permitted which is a big bonus to me. I love chilling by a nice late night beach fire!!

I can't say enough great things about Maravilla. I'm not a resort person, I fell most at home in places like this that foster a bit of a sense of feeling away, and just a bit more intrepid. I'm just not the resort type, I don't like feeling like a pampered, over indulgent, walking ATM machine... I am so thankful when I can find options like maravilla on my travels.

Some other places I have stayed in the same vein are Martz farm in Belize, and Tendacayou in Guadeloupe. Very similar type places with similar rustic elegance.

Much love to you Maravilla staff!! Please keep up the great work.

We stayed here for a week and this place was perfect for us.

It's beautiful, almost every room had an ocean view. The property was well maintained while keeping a cabana aesthetic. The property was right on a beautiful beach.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The owner went out of his way to chat with us and gave us some advice about the area. The staff went out of there way to take care of our needs. It seemed like other places we stayed just saw us as walking dollar signs and I really appreciated how kind everyone was at The Cabarete Lodge

This is probably the best value you'll find in the area. It spoiled us as we had similar expectations of price and quality for the rest of our trip. Equivalent neighboring properties are double the price.

Its safe and peaceful. The property is in a gated community away from main roads so you won't have to deal with loud honking or scooters. We were working during our trip and we had consistent internet.

We went to Cabarete daily for kiting and it was only 10 minutes away by scooter. I'd recommend you rent a scooter if you stay in Cabarete. They are about $50 a week.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Cabarete Eco Lodge and was astonished by how much was offered to me. The beachfront location, friendly staff and good food. I can't recommend this place enough! It's a must-see! The best decision I made was booking at this top resort. It's a small place, which is perfect for couples and families, and the people are amazing. The atmosphere is very relaxing, yet energizing at the same time as there's always something to do.

This is the email I sent to the owner/manager with no response yet.

I am writing this to give you an opportunity to correct the issues that occurred this week in your property, Cabarete Maravilla Eco Lodge. My family and I booked the Giant Robinson Crusoe penthouse We booked direct through your website and not a 3rd party. Upon arrival we were told that we were in Arbol 2. I showed Clemence our reservation as I did a lot of research on the room type and location on property. She told me they gave our room away to a larger family with more nights stay (basically to make more money). She put us in the family bungalow. At this point I tried to remain calm as to not ruin our family vacation. About 2 hours later while getting settled at the bar a large rat ran across from the bar and under the yoga deck. I was disgusted but also tried to recognize we are outdoors and did not want to scare my kids. Later that evening while settling down and full band with amplifiers set up right outside of our into the practice. This was not an enjoyable band playing for the guests of your property. This was them working out the issues to a few songs over and over again for 3 hours!!! And then hang out drinking and carrying on for another hour or so. My husband and I did not sleep at all this night. On top of these things…no one seems to care that people pay money to come and visit on vacation. Robert at your front desk knows you are rat infested and says “there is nothing I can do about it”. The pool and hot tubs were filthy. The pool light was hanging out of the socket with wires exposed. These things are all safety hazards that seem to be ignored. We did not eat an ounce of food on this property after the rat sighting and decided it was best for us to move locations. We wound up leaving the next day and stayed somewhere else for the last 2 nights of our trip. I do not like to complain but also surely don’t expect to pay double for accommodations bc of your properties mistakes and misfortunes. This is robbery! I feel an apology and settlement of these mistakes is necessary. My family was stressed and disappointed on a trip that was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable!

I strongly advise against booking this hotel. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this place is not as advertised. There was nobody in the lobby to greet me, and I was awkwardly asked to sign paperwork with no explanation or assistance. The room had electrical issues, so they had to bring in a floor fan – definitely not the experience I expected.

The rules here are absurd. There are strange signs everywhere telling you what you can’t do – no eating or drinking in the room, which is just unreasonable. And the room itself? Absolutely basic, with nothing but a bed. No welcome water, no amenities – I’ve never stayed in a hotel that doesn’t offer a simple bottle of water upon arrival.

The cleanliness is horrifying. The first thing I saw when I walked in was animal waste on the mat by the door. Inside, the place was no better. The bathroom was disgusting – urine stains on the toilet, a broken toilet, and everything smelled moldy and mildewy. This is not a lodge, it’s a filthy disaster. And to top it off, you’re not allowed to flush toilet paper, so imagine having to put it in a bin that wasn’t emptied. I couldn’t even sleep properly here; I only used the room to change clothes.

The dining area was just as bad, with animals running around where food was served. I was also shocked to find there is no security – the balcony door didn’t lock, and when I raised this concern, the owner was dismissive and uninterested. He didn’t care about my safety; all he said was, “Use the safe.” I was concerned for my personal
safety alongside my possessions. A bike lock materialised. As you can see from my pictures this didn’t provide a solution.

Don’t be fooled by the old, good reviews – this place has seriously gone downhill, especially since 2022. It’s a huge disappointment and a waste of money. There are plenty of other better options in the DR that will actually offer you a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience. Avoid this place at all costs!

Our vacation to the Puerto Plata Area was split in to two parts - initial stay was at an all inclusive and the latter stay was at this location.

First, if your ideal experience is a big resort with loads of planned activities, then the all inclusive resorts is where you should go. On the other hand, if you are looking for harmony with nature, unspoiled beaches, an immersive experience where the sounds of nature lull you to sleep, this is the right place to come to. We spent time at the pool, the beach, back to the pool, met other guests and swapped travel stories. Overall a very memorable experience made better by Mark’s ( the owner) personal presence and access.

From the moment we stepped into the eco Lodge I knew it was going to be good. Check in was easy, everything was easy to locate and we even had entry to the pool from our room. The room was big and very beautiful, equipped with a fridge. We stayed in a Lodge with no walls/windows and slept under nets and I have to say it was an amazing experience. It stayed perfect temperature throughout the night and I had no issues with bugs. We have breakfast, lunch and dinner provided and the food was just to die for. Everything super fresh. Would definitely recommend!

When I arrived here I felt a calm atmosphere. It is a beautiful location with nice shops and bars close by. The people of the resort are very friendly and hospitable. Yesterday I went surfing here for the first time which was an unforgettable experience. The food is extremely tasty + it is also kid friendly. Definitely recommended here!

By far one of our best experiences on the island. A rare gem that is hard to find nowadays. Lovely, simple, beautiful and welcoming. At a fraction of the price of the five star resort we just checked in to on the southern coast. Stunning scenery, spectacular coastline. And Cabarete is good in July. Less rain (only at night).
