Detailed Reviews
We were 4 adults who stayed in the Family Cabana which gave us 3 bedrooms each with their own bathroom, a kitchenette, and a small seating area with a TV. There is no a/c but that was okay for us as we were there in late January. The paintings on the walls were very nice. Each cabin feels like you are the only ones there and it is very quiet. This property is built on a hillside so plenty of walking up and downhill which meant we got exercise each day:). Close to off site restaurants and a grocery store were we purchased supplies for meals. The beds were comfortable and the water in the showers was warm and plentiful. The hammock on the deck was fun, and there was a grill but we didn't use it. There is a path that goes to the top of the property past the greenhouses where we saw a beautiful view of a sunset over the Nicoya Peninsula.

Los Pinos Lodge and Gardens is a little piece of heaven on earth. We stayed in January of 2020. Each room is its own cabin and they are spread along the ridge line so as to provide privacy and solitude to the guests.
There is no restaurant on the property, but each cabin has a kitchenette if you want to cook for yourself. If not, there are a variety of restaurants within a few minute's drive.
Every room has a hammock and a veranda where you can swing or sit and enjoy the sounds of nature in the surrounding forest. There is a fireplace inside and a grill on the veranda. Firewood is provided.
Unusual for Costa Rica where twin beds are the norm, our room had a king sized bed. This is a welcome treat for this 6'2" male.
There is a hiking trail on the property that leads up to an overlook. We could see the Pacific Ocean and the Nicoya Peninsula from the overlook. There is wildlife along the trail at certain times of day.
Los Pinos is run by some siblings and they are very friendly and want to be helpful. We consider the property to be one of the better hotels we have stayed at in Costa Rica. We highly recommend it.

We were here for 6 days and absolutely loved it. There are several cabins onsite of various styles each with its own private area. We were able to sit outside and watch the wildlife from our cabin. The gardens are extensive with a play area for kids as well. Birding is good around the grounds too. There are a couple of nice walking tracks up to a lookout where on a good day you can see across to the Nicoya Peninsula. They also have a large hydroponic section which supplies local businesses with great, fresh herbs and salad items.
What is really lovely is it is a family run business and was set up in 87 when the parents decided to change their dairy farm into an eco lodge, and eco friendly they are!
Great place with food options close by including a small supermarket!

set in a lovely and quiet garden area, we three retired women had a 3 bedroom cabin, each with its own bathroom. It was quiet with flora and fauna around. Best of all, we could walk down the gentle hill to a bakery, restaurants and even a medical clinic (which we used with excellent results). The kitchen help our wine and snacks!
Lovely.

Whilst I wouldn’t say our stay at Pinos felt “luxurious”, it was a cheaper accomodation in the area and provided us with what we needed.
The cabins were clean, offered parking space and had a small kitchenette in there. It was a bit dated and didn’t feel modern, but was functional and provided us with what we needed. The one thing I would call out is that there are no wardrobes in the cabin to put your clothes…. Which felt very strange to me! The cabins have a tin roof, which paired with the rainy weather in Monteverde and being surrounded by animals made it quite noisy to sleep in at night. However, It’s probably worth noting that this is somewhat in line with expectations given the lower price point compared to other accomodation in the area.
Cabins aren’t cleaned daily unless requested due to covid - I would have probably preferred there to just be a cleaner in place which didn’t require us to request for it.
There’s a trail created on site, which was nice to walk and took around 45 mins to complete the full loop.

We were a group of 3 couples an reserved an entire cabin that actually had individual rooms with their own bathrooms! Super convenient in helping keep everyone together when your on the go. Cabins aren't 5 star luxury but for the cost, location an layout it was 👍. From Los Pinos it was a short drive to Monteverde which was the purpose to our trip an a downhill walk (15-20mins) to Santa Elena restaurants / souvenir shops but, I do recommend a taxi back up the hill. Other convenience is breakfast shop near the entrance (Cerro Plano Bakery) an pastry Cafe (Stella's Monteverde) just short walk from Los Pinos...plus others nearby that looked great as well.

Only had 1 night in Monteverde and chose to stay at Los Pinos. I can only say, I will be back for sure, for longer. Their cabin we stayed in was outstanding. The property is beautiful, well landscaped, and is a reserve on its own. The family owners are very nice, service oriented and rightfully proud of their facility. They continually improve it and donate time and money to improvement of the area. Well done!

We arrived here for a three night stay and we were greeted by a lovely employee of the cabins. Our stay there could not have been any better. Rooms were spotless, beds were comfortable. And the cooking facility was more than adequate for anything we wanted to do. Coffee , tea were replaced as needed. They also provided sugar, salt and pepper as well as oil and vinegar. One thing to note about this area is being your own coffee mate as cream and even milk are quite expensive to purchase. Raphael the host on location was also fantastic for any information we needed and any recommendations he gave were spot on. Excellent location. 6 places to eat within very very easy walking distance. If we are ever lucky enough to be in the area again we would absolutely hope we would be able to stay here again! Rates were very reasonable for what you received.

Los Pinos has beautiful and comfortable cabins with all the amenities one would need even some wonderful local coffee. What we didn’t know about Los Pinos was it has its own little nature preserve( 8 acres with trails and lookout)! We saw many birds and animals here including beautiful emerald toucans and Motmot birds.
The staff were so friendly, helpful and nature oriented. When we were checking in our receptionist noticed some birds fly into the yard and took us to show us birds that he saw visiting their fruit trees( Toucans).
The cabin(superior suite) had an outdoor kitchen and a working fireplace inside. The bed was king size and very comfortable.
We loved are stay and will definitely be back

Honestly, you can't summarize this property in a review, it's just absolutely amazing. While I don't know much about Monteverde, in my research, I didn't find anything that was quite as unique as this property. From the isolated cabins that gave our family a feeling of being together while having the seclusion in a quiet place to the viewpoints, greenhouses and just downright breathtaking scenery, it would be hard to recommend anywhere else in Monteverde.
The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. We didn't have any problems or complaints and truly enjoyed our stay. And it was actually much more economical for 5 of us to stay in a family cabin, rather than 3 separate hotel rooms. We were also able to cook and eat meals within the cabin and watch a couple of american football games on the satellite tv.
We even saw some wildlife around the grounds (nothing scary). A guatuso, armadillo, pizote, and opossum all were within view of our cabin and added to the unique experience.
I would strongly recommend Los Pinos to anyone that is looking to stay in Monteverde and wants an experience that isn't your standard hotel or resort.

Ok, my hubs made me say 20yds but apparently from my original review of the place, I thought it was more like 15 ft....
Yes, they provided shower gel and shampoo in the shower, and a soap dispenser at the bathroom sink. They also provided dish soap in the kitchen. There is a large grocery store in Santa Elena to buy supplies, if needed.
Hi!
Thanks for your question!
We have a quite strict cancellation policy, as we are a very small lodge.
We will charge a 25% when cancelling after reserving and up to 15 days before check-in.
If you cancel between 15 and 7 days before arrival, we will charge a 50% of your stay.
If you cancel 7 days or less before your arrival, we will charge 100% of your reservation.
Hope that helps but feel free to reach out to us if you have any other questions!
Best regards,
We got there late in the afternoon but the next morning they stored our bags while we went to the Monteverde Preserve so I'm guessing they would be willing to do that so you can go exploring. They have a bathroom in the reception area where you can change clothes as well.
It's within walking distance of many restaurants. You will need a guide, shuttle or taxi for the cloud forest.
