Hotel Heliconia has garnered considerable acclaim for its range of well-received amenities, including cozy rooms equipped with coffee makers and the provision of a varied breakfast spread. Guests have called out the stunning vistas and the inviting atmosphere, accentuated by charming wood paneling. The cleanliness of the establishment is a consistent highlight, with particular praise for the pristine condition of rooms and bathrooms. While the service is widely lauded for the staff's friendly and attentive nature, a few visitors noted some constraints during breakfast service. Nestled in a prime location, Hotel Heliconia offers easy access to Monte Verde's attractions, ensuring a stay that combines comfort with the convenience of exploration.

We stayed here 3 nights as part of a small tour group in the 200 rooms. There is a sloping walk downhill/ uphill to and from breakfast room and some tour pick ups at reception. Taxis $1 per person each way into main area will usually drop you at the level of your room or choose the long uphill or downhill walk. The 500 level has the best views for sunset but a longer walk.Breakfast was really good and there are shops restaurants nearby. Some seating outside rooms on ground floor.

Visited as a large group, but in a couple. The hotel is up a large hill and about 1.5km from the town although there is 2 restaurants at the bottom of the hill so not ideally located as quite steep hills. Breakfast was included and was ok but not alot of choice. The rooms have no AC but as it was quite cold when we visited this wasn't an issue for us and the beds were comfy and showers were great. The complex is split over the hill into different blocks so can be a steep walk either to or from breakfast. Staff were fine but not alot of interaction from our point as in the large group so cannot really comment on service provided. Unless you drive or have access to a vehicle this hotel is not ideal and definitely not for anyone unfit or disabled

We were booked into Heleconia for 3 nights as part of a 15 night CR adventure and have no regrets. We were a little worried pre-arrival based upon some past TA reviews, but our Family Suite room (arguably way too big for 2 of us, as could have slept 6 in 3 double beds, but gave us the luxury to spread out!), numbered 302, offered great views over St Elana & the CloudForest, via an observatory type room & a large top floor terrace. Yes, the rooms themselves are fairly basic but they are equipped with an expression type coffee machine & a fridge which you can fill with your own drinks from the supermarket a few mins walk down the hill. The walk into downtown St Elana is about 15 mins, much easier on the way down but with moderate fitness you should be able to cope with the uphill return leg. I’d recommend the Don Luis Grill which is next to the aforementioned supermarket & would like to shout out the reception staff who I found to be friendly & helpful. Yes, the complex has some steep inclines, but that’s the trade off for the views. Our one disappointment was the buffet breakfast, probably the worst of the 5 hotels we’ve stayed in, limited options/variety & no omelette/eggs chef.

Of the 8 hotels I stayed at in Costa Rica this was my favorite. The staff at all the hotels I stayed at were friendly but the people here were genuinely interested and caring. From the moment I walked in the bellboy immediately took my bags and offered me a seat while the receptionist took care of a couple in front of me. As soon as she was finished Milady checked me in, explained everything about the hotel, my tours and other options available to me. She then called a taxi for me and explained to him that I couldn't pay him until I got to the ATM. The restaurant staff was absolutely amazing. I had booked a 13 day group tour through TourRadar which was a disaster as I was the only traveler and spent the entire time alone. I didn't feel alone here as the restaurant staff was so friendly and funny. The chef was excellent. I had the ribs one night and steak and shrimp the next. Both were fabulous. A little pricey but delicious. The entire place was spotless and I swear the cleaning ladies never took a break. I had a full body coffee scrub and massage which was heavenly. On my way out I was struggling with my luggage when a gardener saw me and came running to help me taking them to reception. Staying here was definitely a highlight of my visit to Costa Rica.

Stayed three nights. Room had incredible views, superb sunsets. Room had seating area inside and outside the room to watch the view
Mileydi at the front desk organized transportation and private tours for us. All was smooth and excellent. Daily breakfast was great and plenty of it. Had all our dinners at their restaurant which was fantastic. Will definitely stay here again.

Very thin walls, you can hear people talking from several rooms away. During the night, some animals were chasing each other in the roof area. That keeps you awake. People start checking out at 6, loud suitcase rolling, loud conversations. Buses reverse with loud warning signals. Then the cleaning staff come. They shout. If you can speak Spanish, you can understand every word on the radio. Very unprofessional. The breakfast is awful. Not much choice and it's cold. Probably prepared before 6 and then left standing around. Coffee is undrinkable, the milk is made from powdered milk. Typical of group hotels, as cheap as possible, we'll probably never see you again anyway.

This stay started badly - we arrived in the pouring rain and while the bus driver and I were unloading our bags a staff member (under an umbrella) came out to "greet" us, instead of helping or offering us an umbrella she just walked back inside, leaving us with 5 bags in the rain. The receptionist was lovely but the other staff member just sat and watched. One of the restaurant staff had a persistent cough which was rarely covered. The hotel is out of town and very, very steep. Unless you are young/fit there is no real option but to eat in the hotel with its limited menu. Taxis can be called by the hotel but getting a return taxi is problematic. The room was large and clean, moderately comfortable, no air-conditioning. Would not stay here again.

You want to stay here!! 😍🦋🤩

We loved staying at Hotel Heliconia! It was the perfect place for us to rest and have breakfast during a weekend of exploring Monteverde and Santa Elena.

The hotel has huge rooms, cosy touches and warm hospitality. We received welcome drinks upon arrival and loved the breakfasts each morning.

Two in our family are gluten free, and they immediately made a plan to get gluten free bread and GF flour which made us feel very cared for.

We loved the views, the towels, linens and the well landscaped property. And the sunsets were gorgeous! We did all the things at Selvatura Park which is owned by the same family as the hotel. A great pairing for an incredible experience.

5 stars all around. Loved it!

Saludos cordiales, Diego Montero
