We loved our 2 bedroom (king size bed & 1 set of small twin size beds) with 1 full bath. The room included a private patio and then had a large glass sliding door to the eat in kitchen and living room. Our oldest opted for the couch for a private space from her brother. The skylight was great for natural light. AC unit worked well as we cooled the space during day and didn't need to run it at night. Kitchen was well stocked as it had a few extras from the previous guests salt, salt, oil, vinager, plastic wrap. Plenty of dish detergent. the teenagers unplugged each night for the Foosball table. Breakfast is offered for 10 euros per person it was very plentiful as there was a variety of pastries and breads with homemade jams and jellies. Made to order eggs and a homemade vanilla yogurt along with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juice. Half mile away was the bakery. Rarely heard anyone in the rooms around us.
My favorite thing was sitting by the pool and listening to birds and nearby horses as this was on the edge of town and it was delightfully peaceful. Yet a short drive to Sete and its wonderful beaches and the larger city of montpellier. A true paradise.

This could be the best B&B in the world - the rooms have all the facilities of a 5 star hotel. kettle, microwave, bath tub, fridge - but the charm is that every inch has clearly been designed and decorated with love and devotion to a certain taste. Individual and delightful.

A peaceful relaxing stay at this quaint B&B. The service was excellent, nothing was a problem. The rooms are well equipped with kettle and fridge. The room was air conditioned on arrival and a perfect temperature throughout. Breakfast was outstanding with so much choice and homemade jams and cake. The outdoor area has lovely shade and seating areas and the pool and jacuzzi are perfect. Jessica looked after us throughput and is a perfect host. We would definitely return!

Owner Stéphane has constructed a beautiful gîte with theme rooms, a huge swimming pool plus yacuzzi and outdoor bar with cosy cabanes.
Such a delightful view of the castle and the quatorze juillet fireworks from the first floor staircase.
We were welcomed with a smile and found out that Stéphane was eager to accommodate any possible request (Ipod cables, internet guidance, hair dryer, DVD player, early breakfast, local inquiries, etc).
This was our third stay at Patio 34 and we feel completely at home there.
I would certainly recommend le Patio 34 to anyone on a business or holiday trip in the region of Montpellier.

The wi fi is good, the bathroom was modern enough, the pool was as expected, the sun loungers were good quality and the courtyard area to the rear with tables and chairs was attractive. There were two of us for two nights and we had a room as opposed to a terraced house. The stairs and walkway leading to it were shabby and chipped. The room was a fair size and although it had a large modern window it was wallpapered and quite dark. There was no balcony or terrace. The air conditioning was effective but in the heat and sunshine of August it wasn't a place to spend any time.

The extended family owners seemed nice enough but their kids spent a lot of time in the pool at the expense of clients and on our second night the courtyard was given over to a large family party. All in all this seemed rather cynical and made us feel uncomfortable and like paying but second class guests.

Perhaps both the hotel and the booking agency should be honest enough to make clear that the owning family expects to make full use of the facilities.

Hello, We are sorry you didn't feel to have the best journey. It's right there is no balcony or terrace in our guest rooms, but it's as described in our website (each holiday cottage do have a terrace). It's true that one evening, we were celebrating the birthday of one of my close friend. 4 kids were indeed in the swimming pool, but they were respectful and it's didn't seem at that time you were annoyed. If my memory is right, you were drinking a bottle of wine lying on the deckchairs. It seems you liked our other facilities (swimming pool, room size, big window, etc...); maybe that occurence didn't deserve a rating of 2 out of 5. Best Regards

Stayed here with my boyfriend off-season and it was a great accommodation all around. Colorful and great decorations in the room- comfy bed! The pool and patio area was beautiful and the outside was quaint French countryside plains, quite close to Montpellier. Had everything we needed and the breakfast was a great extra touch. Merci beaucoup!!

My wife and I are very experienced travelers. We stayed at Le Patio 34 because it was available and the reviews were good.

First the good. The room was very large, with space to sleep 5 people. The bathroom appeared to have been redone. There was a safe deposit box in the room. There was free Internet. Helène was especially friendly and helpful. There was a very nice man (who may have been the owner, Stephane). There was no problem parking. The exterior, especially the pool area, was very nice.

The bad. The room was tired and dated. The tiles in the kitchen were worn and the grout was dirty. There was an unpleasant smell when entering the room. The sliding door to the outside did not lock, so it was jury-rigged with a pin to prevent it from opening -- not very secure and a concern for us. The curtains were too small for the sliding doors, so it was impossible to get complete privacy from the outside. We could only get complete privacy by entering the bedroom and closing a second set of curtains. The sliding door to the bedroom did not lock. There was no toilet paper, shampoo, bar of soap (only liquid soap), tissues, or hair blower. (Helène did finally get us a bar of soap.) We requested toilet paper and got that, but only one roll at a time. They forgot to refill the toilet paper one day. The bushes to the front door were overgrown, so the door was half-covered. There were two overhead lights in the bathroom, but no front light, so shaving or putting on makeup was difficult because your face was in the dark. The air conditioner was only in the kitchen area, so the cold air had to make its way into the bedroom area. Old food from a previous guest was left in the refrigerator. I always assumed breakfast was included at a B&B, but we were charged an additional 8 euros each for breakfast. And lastly, two GPS devices had a very difficult time locating Le Patio 34. One of them completely failed and the second got us close, but we needed help from a civilian.

I was reluctant to write anything negative because the staff was so nice, but everyone deserves to accurately know what they’re getting themselves into. The owner needs to bite the bullet and properly repair or replace old or worn out doors, furniture, curtains, etc. If the improvements were done properly, it could be a very nice place.

Hello “art2glass”, Thank you for your comment. It’s a late answer as your comment was written in 2011. We did a lot of changes and our rooms were renovated since your stay. Sorry for the toilet paper rolls, our new maid pays attention to all of these important details. Just check our other comments and you will see why our guests love our place (and not only because of the heated pool and jacuzzi). Best Regards, Stéphane.

Room was very neat and clean. Initially I had trouble with the WiFi but Stephane sorted that out in 5 minutes. The pool area was fantastic to have a quiet drink and a few eats. When leaving in a car, turn right to depart as the road is easier to pass on. I left some items in the room and Stephane posted them to AUSTRALIA, free of charge. You can't get better service than that. Vince & Sue, Australia.

Fantastic little oasis, bit off the beaten track. Pool area is lovely and well furnished rooms clean and well presented. As it's a little bit out of the city, we asked stephane for plates and knifes which were given without question, had a lovely evening sat round the pool eating salad cheese and drinking wine. loved the vibe and the atmosphere. A real find, would stay again.

My partner & I booked a much-need overnight stay at Le Patio 34. Prior to arrival the email communications with the property were helpful. We specifically asked about dinner and was told that, on the evening we were going to stay, they could recommend a local restaurant. In our confirmation email, we arrange a specific bedroom and also a dinner reservation for 8pm at the recommended local restaurant.

We had great day out in Montpellier, a fascinating city steeped in history and wonderful architecture. Looking forward to our overnight break & dinner, we arrived at Le Patio 34 (15 miles west of the city) and was immediately surprised by its location, down a small lane in the middle of nowhere and close to an industrial estate.

Le Patio 34 has an electronic gates so we rang the bell, no answer, rang the mobile number listed on the gate (for instances when the bell is not answered) and no response, so we rang the bell again which was then answered, explained that we had a reservation and the owner (we assume) opened the gate. We drove inside and no one came to greet us, there was no signage at all to direct guests to the entrance/reception and so we wandered around and found an entrance whereby the owner appeared.

With very little in the way of a welcome, we were shown up a very steep and narrow external staircase to a external corridor where the bedrooms were located - outside of each bedroom door was an ashtray filled with used cigarette butts, absolutely filthy!

The owner, trying the handle of the first door he came to (and not the room we had booked) realised it was locked and, not having any keys, we were left to wait until said keys were located. On entering the room, which in itself was clean, tidy and appeared well equipped, we asked where the local restaurant was as we could not see any on the way through the nearby village. The owner then informed us that no restaurants were open that night locally and that night and suggested the 15 km drive back to Montpellier!

We could not believe it, the sole purpose of this overnight stay (our last available opportunity for such a break for six months) was to have a relaxing evening where we did not have to drive anywhere. We asked the owner why, if he knew no restaurants would be open, he had not called or emailed us and we could then have eaten lunch or a meal before we arrived. He response was simply "I supposed I could have" (or words to that effect).

So we decided to not to stay and explained to him why – he appeared to not care less, followed us to the car, opened the electronic gate and walked away from us without so much as a word.

On returning home (we live in France) we sent an email saying how disappointed we were with the reception we had received and, more importantly, for telling us when we booked that a local restaurant would be booked for us and then not informing us that this was not possible - his response, one line "I am sorry that you took it that way".

So if it is service with a smile you are seeking certainly don't bother making a reservation at Le Patio 34 - and be sure you eat before you arrive if you do!

Hello Peter, It's a late reply as your comment was written in 2010, but I wanted to give an answer on what seems to be a big understanding. First of all, you did asked me about a restaurant near by my guesthouse; unfortunately, it turned out that it was closed that particular night. I had other places in mind, very good restaurants I tried to share with you, but I remember you specifically told me you don’t want to use the car, even if it’s for a 5 minutes’ drive (for information, Montpellier is 3 miles away). If I knew you would not want to use your car before you arrived, I would have informed you in advance. That being told, I’m really sorry we couldn’t find a solution. And for what you describe as a lack of interest, I do have a discreet personality, but I am always available and happy to advise my guests. Best Regards, Stéphane.
