Our second visit , friendly staff, food is to a good standard. We were house hintin in the area, shame no dog allowed. Luckily we left pooch at home. Fish and chips were good , nice battered fish seemed homemade but chips were out of a packet. Would recomend as a lunch pit stop.

a trip to the river wye for the first day of the coarse river season. the weather spoilt the trip but nothing else did. as always Mike and his staff were most welcoming food was brilliant and slept like a log. had every intention of rising for an 4.00 oclock start on the first day tackle and bait prepared. But... More

We stayed for one night during a 3 day trip - the accommodation was good, a spacious self contained cottage behind the pub. It was very clean and well-equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We had an evening meal in the pub which was very nice and the breakfast was great as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful,... More

Comfortable room - really good facilities with additional sitting room, well-stocked coffee tray etc. Beds/pillows a little hard! Pub is small but good breakfast and excellent evening meal. Hosts friendly and polite. Well situated for visiting Hay-on-Wye, Hereford and Brecon and beautiful walking in the Wye Valley. Wifi signal not very good.

A typical red brick English Pub in the most idyllic Herefordshire countryside. We were greeted warmly by the genial host / owner (?) and given our key. The room was spacious, clean and boasted a lounge area complete with TV, two seater sofa, occasional table / wardrobe and desk. Tea / Coffee making facilities provided. Front window looked out on... Popped in for lunch and decided on the roast beef. It took just short of 40 minutes for 3 roast meals to be served and to be honest the place was not packed. The meal was ok, standard roast and vegetables. Cost £10 for one course meal. Had a super garden where you can sit out and have your meal.... More

This venue was every thing we wanted for out motorbike trip, great location for Wales, the Brecon Beacons and more. The rooms were more then adequate with brew making facilities. The breakfasts were spot on and not over facing. The hospitality was second to none we arrived just after the kitchen had shut for evening meals but it wasn't too... More

What a great welcome we were given here. We came for a 2 day day trip on motorcycles. Came late for food but this not a problem as sandwiches were made for us weary travellers. Fantastic rooms. Thanks for the good time. I would recommend to all. Would definitely come back!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Red Lion Hotel is situated in the tiny hamlet of Bredwardine, which nestles on the banks of the River Wye just twelve miles from Hereford, and 8 miles from Hay-on-Wye.Built of red brick, its origins lie in the seventeenth century when it was used as a coaching inn, also the lounge bears the name The Courtroom. This is where the circuit judge of the day used to sit in judgement. Our aim at the hotel has been to provide you with a peaceful haven in the tranquil heart of England away from the hustle and bustle of work and every day life. Whilst every effort has been made to combine this warm, congenial atmosphere with all the comforts and facilities of a modem day hotel, you will find that the Red Lion retains much of its old world charm including oak beams, and beautiful antiques with blazing log fires through the winter months. The reputation of our dining-room relies on well prepared home-cooked food, using as much fresh produce as possible and cooked to order by our highly regarded chef. You can choose from a varied range of meals off our menus, whether its at breakfast, lunch time or in the evening and remember to look out for our "Specials" board.Whilst situated in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas in the country there are a whole host of things to do and enjoy. These include Herefords Cathedral and the famous Mappa Mundi exhibition to the local Small Breeds & Owl Centre and of course a visit to Herefordshire would not be complete without a trip to Bulmers Cider Museum and for the more active amongst us canoeing down the magnificent river Wye.What ever the reason for your visit we are here to help you enjoy your stay and our beautiful county. ... more   less
