I tried the yotel because I had a very early flight and I didn't want to loose sleeping-time in the morning. I arrived in the late evening (In case you have only hand luggage, you can go trough luggage control in the evening) and next...More
The seeming advantage of this hotel is its location inside the airport, on the 'secure' side. If you have an early morning flight, as I did, at a time when the airport was telling people to arrive 3 hours early for flights outside of Schengen...More
it is hard to find, but its upstairs in D near McDonalds. The front desk was very friendly when we checked in. Gave us the keys and sent us on our way. I rented the Premium Room, since it had a bathroom and shower. We...More
The Yotel at Schiphol was very difficult to find and when at last I did arrive - after about 40 minutes of wandering around - the receptionists there said yes, other people had said the same. Some signs would have been good but if you...More

My understanding is different from those who have already replied. The hotel is on the 'secure' side of the airport, so as long as you have not passed through passport control and collected your luggage, you should be able to get into the hotel directly.
What is not clear to me is what would happen with your luggage if you don't claim it right after the flight, but leave it until after your nap. Airlines do have places/ways to store unclaimed luggage, but I don't know if you would want to risk that--or if there is risk involved. You might ask the airline you're arriving on.
I take you to mean that you want to take a nap after arriving from the US and before 'entering' The Netherlands, not that you want to nap before boarding a US-bound flight. You also don't say that you are transferring in Schiphol to another flight and want to nap between them -- in that event, you would not be claiming your luggage.
I don't think it matters to passport control whether you go through immediately after a flight or a few hours later after a nap. But you should check with someone who knows this. I'm just guessing.
Once you go through passport control, you are outside of the secure zone -- and then, you cannot access the hotel. At that point, you might as well pick up your luggage, store it in a locker, return via passport control and security, and go to the hotel. After your nap, you will have to re-enter via passport control, and then go claim your luggage from the locker. It is do-able. But for all that, why not just go through all this once and head to a hotel either near the airport or in whatever city you're headed to?
