Detailed Reviews
Firstly, this chateau has an authentic feel of last century grandeur and homeliness. It has the usual amenities such as WiFi (which is better in some areas then others with some of the walls being 3ft thick) From the majestic original oak staircase to the stone floors this immediately feels like a true home from home, rather than a sterile holiday let.
The grounds are extensive with a fabulous outdoor pool set in the orchard which where you could pick pears, apples , plums etc whilst taking a break from a relaxing swim assuming you can tear yourself away from off the deluxe sunbeds. There are fabulous walks and bike rides in the vicinity with flat rolling terrain for all capabilities with villages and countryside to explore.
The bedrooms are first rate, spotlessly clean with full deluxe en suite facilities , tall elegant windows with shutters to keep out the fabulous Loire sun. We enjoyed the professional pool table, lively dinners in the the dining room and shaded external pergola to the early hours most nights. There is also a small gym. The huge kitchen was stocked with an initial welcome pack, a sizable pantry of staple items and the enthusiastic owners went out of their way to aid any additional requests.
While we were there we were able to enjoy the annual Charly classic car rally held in the grounds which was tremendous without being obtrusive.
I could go on but i think i will just book again, it was simply delightful.

For the first time in my life I wanted to go away for a month. Away from daily worries such as work and care(s). I was looking for a place where I had space and peace and could receive friends. And I found my paradise in Charly! It was more than I could imagine, but Chateau Charly gave me everything I was looking for.
It is a very spacious house (approx. 750 m2) with a lot of land (approx. 17 hectares). You can walk on your own property, there is a swimming pool, herbs from the garden, fruit trees. The bedrooms with private bathrooms are (very) large and equipped with everything (from shower foam, shampoo, to cotton buds and eye pads), the beds sleep wonderfully and the bed and bath linen are of a high standard. The kitchen is well equipped and whatever you think of, it is there or hostess/owner Claire will take care of it. She is always available and thinks along.
I spent the month of May there and experienced all types of weather, from rain/hail/cold to 25 degrees. Everything has its charm. Made lovely fires in the kitchen and sat in the bath until eating outside or reading a book by the pool under the large parasol. There is plenty to see in the area, many markets.
I would highly recommend this location and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!

We had a lovely week in this beautiful house. Very quiet rural location, with large grounds. Well appointed, large well furnished rooms. Plenty of activities on hand - swimming pool, croquet, boules, bikes, pool table, swingball, gym, darts, table football etc to keep the family occupied!
Owners were very obliging and helpful - overall a great place for a large family getaway if you want to get away from it all.

People say never go back it wont be the same! but they are so wrong, wrong, wrong!!!! We have Just returned from our second visit for what has to be the most peaceful and chilled holiday we have had in many, many years. From the moment we arrived, where we were greated with a welcoming cool drink from the enthusiastic owners , to the moment we were waived away by the owners as we left i have never felt so thoroughly rested.
Charly is in the southern Loire near the faboulous historic town of Bourges and Nevers. Culture, views and fabulous food were on the doorstep which we enjoyed, but the quiet was pierced only by friends laughter and great conversations which were often curtailed early as we wanted to slip in the sumptuous beds for the most restful sleep we had had in many years. In the day the pool was perfect to cool down from the summer sun on premium sunbeds with the provided high quality pool towels.
When it got a little to warm the stone floors of the chateau provided faboulus respite from the heat. I could go on for ever but frankly this place is a perfect base for any activity, group of family visit . We will be back without doubt.

As soon as the gates open and the Chateau is before you then you know you are in for a treat.
The Chateau is a true home from home but with exquisite rooms, luxurious bathrooms and absolutely everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
Phil and Claire made us so welcome and informed us of lots to do within an hours drive and then back to relax by the heated pool.
There are no words to express how much we enjoyed our week there, relaxing, chilling and of course, eating and drinking. Cannot wait to go back 😀

+1
We booked this chateau as we love the Loire region. Definitely not disappointed..... the welcome from the hosts Claire & Phil was lovely, the rooms were huge in size and height, great en suites, it can hold 16 adults plus 4 children. Loads of space in the extensive grounds which are walled and fenced, we felt very secure and great for children and our dog to explore. The large swimming pool was fantastic and spent a lot of time there lounging on luxury sun beds under the umbrellas (30C plus during our stay). We had some wonderful evening meals during our stay either outside patio area which seated us all with lovely lighting or inside in the huge dining room. As a group of family and friends we took turns to cook which was great fun and the kitchen is very well equipped to cater for a large group. We had trips out to Bourges, Sancerre & a day on a local golf course, all recommended.

Stayed in a family party of 16 over new year 2017. Great directions nad with arriving on New years eve, the owner was waiting by the main gate to great us as the rest of our party had arrive the day previous. The quality of the roof finishes, furnishings, bedding, towels....... all outstanding. We had arranged for provisions ahead of our arrival, all were present and correct , even the ham was premium quality.
Fabulous grounds, cosy sitting rooms and 2 friendly red setters roaming gave a homely feel in what is a stylish deluxe country residence.
Can recommend the Saumur Fizz provided which the the proprietor provided to wash down a superb casserole of his own making!
Fully equipped kitchen with a 1st class chef available, deluxe menus with fine wine options all available.
At the owners suggestion we visited Bourges which is 15 minutes away for a cosmopolitan array shops, bars and resturants while also being steeped in history. The gardens even in winter were impressive but the jewel in the crown has to be the cathedral nestled in napolenonic architecture.
We were trearted to a rendition of Concierto de Aranjuez by the owner who is himself an accomplished trumpeter and acclaimed composer.
Recommended, recommended - Can't wait to go back

I took my aged parents to Charly in 2008 and we had a lovely stay, with beautiful rooms, superb surroundings and the opportunity to spend languid July days exploring the quietly beautiful countryside and rivers nearby. The only slightly disappointing thing was that the owners (Philippa and Jason Park) , who had taken a near-derelict house and restored it, seemed uncomfortable both with being hoteliers and with being in France, This cast a sense of gloom over the place, to which we had to shut our minds. We remarked to each other that we could not see the place lasting long as it was.
Sure enough, the house was sold in the coming years. This July, I wanted to see how the place had changed since Paul Solomons had taken it over, so I brought my mother (sadly widowed since our last visit) en rounte for the Cote d'Azur. I found everything I liked had been enhanced, while Paul (ably assisted by Anna) brought a much more happy note to the atmosphere there, Staying at Charly under Paul's ownership is much like visiting a friend, and a delightful one at that. He is full of helpful suggestions and no trouble seems too much for him. I wish him all the best of success with running this beautiful property and I shall look forward to my next opportunity to stay there.

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Chateau Charly for my wifes 50th birthday. The rooms were beautiful and spacious with gorgeous bathrooms. We opted for a self catering basis as two of our group are chefs, The kitchen was perfect and well equipped. The were 3 fridges and a freezer, dishwasher and all tools to allow you to cater for everyone. There is an excellent bakery very close by in Blet and another 3 miles up the road. We cycled everyday as we are keen cyclists and the area is superb for this. We went go karting at Magny Cour which is a superb track. There is a town 8 miles south that has a fantastic market on Wednesday. The pool is a small walk from the property but not an issue. We held our own Olympics as the grounds are very large.
Things that we took to ensure a comfortable stay were an ice machine, a bed for my daughter for our room (although I am sure the owner could have arranged this) 3 extra sun loungers for the pool, tea towels. There were a couple of spare bicycles to use around the grounds. Highlights were seeing Otters and King fishers in the small river next to the Chateau.
Max the manager of the property was always on call should we need anything.
This is a great Chateau for family and friends and we have no complaints as it offers excellent value for money and lots of charm with a very friendly homely feel.

We stayed here a year ago and vowed we would be back.
Health circumstances prevented that till now but we are hoping to be there in August with our extended family.
Where else can you have the whole family together in luxury , in such a safe and seven setting?
Recommend you try it
Bill and Viv Gardiner
