Nestled in a picturesque setting, the JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa offers spacious rooms adorned with rustic charm and stunning lake views, though booking can sometimes be problematic. While the location is a hit for events and family gatherings, service issues can detract from the experience. High prices and unmet expectations occasionally mar the perceived value, despite a range of amenities that are generally appreciated. The ambiance of the hotel receives mixed reviews, contrasting a cozy fireplace setting with a somewhat drab overall atmosphere. Service quality varies, with both commendations for staff attentiveness and criticisms of inconsistency, especially during peak times. The cleanliness of the resort is a standout feature, with travelers consistently impressed by the well-kept facilities.

We stayed at the JW Marriott Rosseau just after New Year's in January 2024 for four nights. The rate was approximately 250 CDN$ per night room only. Although this is my first review, we've stayed there many times during the past decade in both summer and winter. The Rosseau is - first and foremost - a family resort so if you are looking for the JWM experience of Honk Kong or Singapore then you will need to recalibrate for luxury, Canadian cottage country style. The 'kids first' theme extends to a comprehensive programme of children's activities each day and for different ages. There's usually hot chocolate by the front door in winter and 'smores' evenings around the campfire. In the winter kids can choose from craft-based workshops and in the summer Lake Rosseau offers an endless variety of watersports. Some are included and some attract a supplement, as one would expect. The 4-season pool is a huge draw, particularly in winter when you can do snow angels in your swimmers and then jump into the hot tub! There is also a Spa (a HydroSpa franchise), a decent little gym (treadmills, ellipticals and a few weights) and a huge conference wing for weddings and functions. The rooms are spacious with exposed Muskoka granite fireplaces (gas rather than wood), wooden floors and the rooms facing the lake (a worthwhile upgrade if you've come all this way) have far-reaching views. For a family of four the 1-bed suites are ideal as they have a King in a separate bedroom and a pull-out double perfect for two younger kids. The bathrooms are thoughtfully designed with his 'n' hers basins, a separate loo, and separate shower - so no long queues in the morning! Amenity sets are Molton Brown (a supermarket brand here in the UK but apparently held in high regard in North America). There is also a very useful kitchenette with two-burner stove, dishwaher, sink, fridge and a reasonable array of cookwear - more than enough for breakfast and lunch. In winter it is worth asking for a room in the main building rather than in Paignton House (the newer wing near the lake). Although the rooms are identical the centre of gravity in winter moves to the main building and so it is worth staying there. The opposite is true in summer. The catering at The Rosseau is OK - nothing more. Breakfast is generous, The Lakes offers pub grub, Teca is a perfectly acceptable Italian eatery and dining options top out at the Muskoka Chophouse. Here, the food is good (decent steaks, generous portions, daily specials) but it's more in keeping with the location rather than a destination resto. Having said that, the wine list in the Chophouse is superb and overseen by Brendan, a sommelier of great knowledge and long-standing. Brendan always has something 'off-list' which can include the First Growths and Cult Californians that he travels to Toronto to secure. Brendan is an institution at the Rosseau and one of the main reasons we go - nothing is ever too much trouble and the service is impeccable. We wouldn't keep going back if we didn't like it so drawbacks are few. The valet parking isn't worth it as you can park for free about 50 yards away. The Crystal Head vodka bar isn't in keeping with a resort of this standing (I didn't see anyone doing shots) and the coffee in the coffee shop is a bit Timmies rather than Barista. The public spaces are due a refresh as they are now showing their age; decor dates quickly. But I am quibbling - we all love it at the Rosseau and the kids can't wait to go back next year.

The JW Marriott is a great place to stay. Very clean , great staff , beautiful location . However I would probably not go again during a weeknight (we went on a Thursday night) as they are pretty short staffed and most amenities were closed. There was also not many options for restaurants during the week and not a lot of options for food on the menus that were available. Food is definitely overpriced and was good but I have had cheaper for better quality.

I have always loved this properly and experience l. We spent so much money here this time and it was horrible. First of all very dirty. Pool area kept running out of towels, pools were not kept, restaurant tables not cleaned. Could not sit outside due to wasps which was made worse by food sitting on tables. The food was so expensive. My child has a gluten allergy which they said rhey would accommodate but then charged him $40 for a steak. I would have declined if I knew that was the cost but they brought it before confirming. The indoor pool Area was also so sorry and broken games on the game room. The room was so meh. The water station at the front had garbages overflowing and so many water bottles everywhere. It made me cry the amount of plastic waste and the blatant disregard for the environment. I asked the front desk and they agreed but said management wanted the bottles but this is not part of the Marriott's overall sustainability strategy. Also the activities were terrible and boring. It was just so disappointing and I will never come here again.

We visited for the first time on a weekend in August. The resort is beautiful. We had a standard room facing the lake with a king bed. The view was beautiful and the room was large and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool area, the beach, and went on a boat cruise with our young family. We also enjoyed the trails around the hotel. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. During our visit we enjoyed the lobby bar, the Cottages restaurant, and Teca (the Italian restaurant). Both the food and experience at Teca was exceptional and is worth a visit. We would recommend this resort to others and will visit again in the future.

We wanted to have a mini staycation with our five year old while his big sisters were at Muskoka Woods, and the JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka did not disappoint! The rooms were lovely and had a rustic feel to them, we were treated to a cute little plate of delicious cookies when we got to our room. The amenities and activities at the resort are fantastic - we spent some time at the spa, and our son loved the paint your own paddle activity. The lounges and restaurants were relaxing and had great food options. We borrowed some kayaks for a nice paddle on Lake Muskoka, and the beach was a great place to relax while our son played on the sand. We'll be back!

For over 10 years I had been looking forward to staying at JW Marriott The Rosseau Resort and Spa, and because of that I’d like to write a thorough review that can help someone out there! The staff were helpful, patient, friendly and very polite. The room had a kitchenette and was nicely put together, in regards to a cottage/Muskoka feel. The resort ambiance was luxurious. The 1 dinner that we ate at the resort restaurant, “Lakes” was appropriately priced and delicious. (Their alcoholic drinks and deserts cost double what they would at other restaurants.) Due to staying for 3 nights, we were offered a discount (i think it was 10%), the total came to $1143 ($381 per night). Nothing more than the room was included - please be very mindful of that! No breakfast or any other extras. The saunas (there are multiple) which I was excited to use, were at minimum $100 per person, per day; so for my boyfriend and I they would have cost $200 per day to use. If we purchased services at the spa of $180 min per person, the use of the saunas was included. (A massage by an RMT was double what we pay at home, so I declined getting a one. And there wasn't any other service that I/we were interested in at the spa.) During the online reservation process, I had missed that their signature restaurants were closed during the off-season. There were very, very few guests - meaning, it was super quiet. Too quiet! The lounge, bar and resort restaurant “Lakes” were next to empty. This resort is marketing to folks who have deep pockets and are not looking for ‘quality for the best dollar spent’. They are looking for couples and families who have large amounts of disposable income, and it doesn't even enter into their minds ‘...the amount I am spending vs what I am getting’. All-in-all, I feel there are much better resorts/places in the Mukokas that will sell great experiences, excellent customer service, for a better price. The JW Marriott in Muskoka was quite a disappointment in my books! Lesson learnt!

Terrible hotel. Horrible experience. I have never written a review before. But here goes. There were a lot of things wrong with this hotel - but here’s the big one. July we stayed at the JW. My son fell backwards, smashed his nose on one of the cement tables in the hallway. My 13 year old son and his friends cleaned up the mess- blood everywhere, and got ice for his nose- then proceeded to come tell me at the restaurant that we were in what had happened. Of course, we decided that we need to take him to the hospital (on advice from a surgeon that was dinning there). The manager on duty proceeded to try and help us, and called an ambulance for us. Well, their phones weren’t working to call the ambulance. So we had to. Please note, the only reason why we had to call an ambulance was because I had wine with dinner, didn’t know where or how to get there. The manager on duty told us that they would cover the ambulance charge- Which is why we proceeded with the safer route. Otherwise we would have had our friends 18 year old daughter drives us We can afford the $45 ambulance charge. But out of principal, I am very disappointed with the hotel. After phones, and discussions the last manager, told me they won’t cover it- it was my son’s fault. Which upsets me even more. His fault or not, the hotel told me that they would cover the costs. So this is my review. Customer service and the way companies are treating people today is unacceptable. If you don’t cover ambulance charges for accidents that happen on your property- then don’t tell me you do. Period. End of rant.

The family have been going to the hotel since it opened 14 or 15 years ago. There is no better place to stay in the Muskoka Region from a comfort stand point. We have stayed there during every season and I highly recommend it. Pros - great property: rooms, pools, gym, etc.. - great amenities - great atmosphere at the bar - the rooms are well furnished. - food is great at the bar and Chophouse steakhouse (Brandon and the rest of the team are outstanding) - food at above 2 restaurants are reasonable for a JW - plenty of activities for all ages - service quality is generally excellent, although we have experienced subpar services on occasion. Cons - Teca restaurant is very average food wise. - it can get very noisy at times but we don’t mind - sometimes the hotel rate is a bit high. The cons are few and far between. That is why we always go back.

My family had a great time at the Rosseau JW. While the pool, food, and the surroundings were great this review is specifically for the most amazing Matt Soloman. Matt is a fantastic all-in-one superhero for all things fun, resort experience, and even personal training. Matt, thank you so much for the fantastic 1 hour long session which was the best personal training session I've ever had. Far better than the paid ones, actually. I hope the resort recognizes Matt's contribution towards making the guests' stay that much more valuable. He needs a raise. A proper one.
