We enjoyed the time at the resort recently - 5 days spent exploring the West Coast area of Vancouver Island. The property was very spacious and as a family of 4 it suited us very well. The views of the harbour and mountains were beautiful from the top of the house. We were able to go whale watching from the dock on the resort and also rented kayaks. Overall a great place to stay - although you have to enjoy laid back living as it is all about returning to the wilderness in this area. We were very lucky with the weather so plenty of beaches and hikes to explore,
Having recently booked unit 126 via Airbnb for 2 couples (4-night stay), we were looking forward to this place which appeared very promising. The good thing was that the beds were comfy and the location is great. There were a few minor issues like neither bathtub having a useable stopper. One was missing completely and the other leaked. We found innovative ways of keeping the water in for baths. The drinking water tastes of chlorine, even after boiling. The downstairs bathroom needed a thorough cleaning, especially around the toilet area and the mirror hadn’t been wiped in ages. The worst thing was that when we read the ‘house rules’ (not the same as the listing one) that was in the entrance area, we discovered that, despite paying a hefty $150 for cleaning, we were still expected to: take out the garbage, run the dishwasher and a load of laundry (towels) before departure. This is outrageous and after travelling for over 40 years in many countries, this has never been demanded. This is no way to treat any guest. Airbnb have been made aware of this issue and because they edit reviews heavily, the next guests will not be aware of what to expect. The extra $ for fees, service charges and cleaning made this stay a very costly one and not good value.…
This property is fantastic! We had a group of 6 adults (3 couples) and stayed in the 3 bedroom townhouse. Each couple got their own bathroom (only one was an in-suite) which was an excellent feature. The unit had everything we needed to make dinner (we opted to cook at home more often than eating out). It was also very well stocked with lots of extra towels. There are 2 hot tubs on premises but during our stay, only one of them was open so in the evenings there was a wait to use it but it was well worth it (so relaxing!). This is a great home away from home, complete with washer and dryer. The property is located with easy access to restaurants and shopping in town, but also right along the highway that takes you to other beautiful destinations along the coast when you want to explore outside of Sooke. Check in was easy and the communication from the property management team was great. We did have a minor trouble with the Simplex lock on that first day because we weren't sure how it worked. Clearer instructions would have been super helpful but once it we figured it out, it was easy to work. Loved the stay and I look forward to returning!…
We love it here and this was our 3rd time out this year and will continue to go in 2022 !!! It suits our style as we love boating, diving, fishing and water sports in general… the suites have everything needed that you don’t have to go anywhere, we also love the hot tub to relax in the evenings…
The resort is located centrally with amenities such as restaurants and shopping close by. The units have a great ocean view which can be enjoyed from a balcony off the kitchen or bedroom. However, I was not impressed by the cleanliness of the unit. The rugs were fiilthy and had stains in many spots as well as all up the stairs. These should have been cleaned before renting it out to anyone. The receptionist, when told of this merely replied "well it's the end of the season and we'll do a deep clean then." I certainly did not feel valued as a paying customer and especially since they advertise that extra cleaning was attended to because of covid. As well, what few amenities there were in the unit, they were not cleaned at all. For example, the dish soap lid was missing and soap had gathered around the spout for sometime since the bottle was nearly empty. We had to go down to the reception area to get it refilled and that just came from a bigger bottle. As well extra toilet paper was not restocked in the cupboard. For the amount we paid, I would have expected more from this resort. …
Our 3 bedroom unit was well equipped and more than enough space for the two of us. We had balcony with BBQ off the kitchen and balcony off the master. We loved the view of Whiffin Spit from the master, sipping wine and watching the sun set. Location was great and close to downtown Sooke, Whiffin Spit and Galloping Goose trail. Easy access to Highway 14, if you want to go to Botanical, Sombrio or China Beach. The check-in process was digital, but very easy to use. No early check-ins at this property. Check out time of 10am was quite early, so we half packed the night before. I would definitely stay here again!
We lucked out and caught a reservation for Christmas here. It was the most relaxing mini holiday in years. We arrived with our two teenage boys and were thrilled with how spacious and beautiful our unit was. It was spotless and when we left we tried to leave it as clean as when we arrived 5 days prior. Great internet, tv, close to the town of Sooke and driving distance to beautiful beaches where we could watch the winter surfers. It was a very appreciated visit to this gem of a resort. The staff on the phone and in the front office were so very nice.
We stayed in the 4bed/bath penthouse. Amazing value in the off season. So much space, beautiful views, fully equipped. We enjoyed the patio, full kitchen, and pool table. We ordered food next door at the prestige, which was easily walkable. So close to whiffin spit for a walk. Perfect for a group. They happily accommodated both an early check in and late checkout without fees. We really wish we could have stayed longer. The only downside was that the unit was cold. We turned up the baseboards and the gas fireplace, but the living area never got cozy unfortunately. The rooms were fine but the living area was so big that the baseboards weren’t effective in 1 night to warm up.
Stayed for a week in Oct 2020. Booking online was unsuccessful but over the phone through “Shelly/Sherry” was fantastic as she was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, was never contacted prior to stay re: contactless (due to COVID) details for check in. Check in with Dawn was friendly and brief. However, upon arrival inside our unit, I discovered we did not have enough dish detergent for the week. When I notified front desk shortly after (~415pm), I was told in a surprisingly unprofessional manner that having the dish detergent replenished “depends on who you expect to supply it” with no further arrangements made to restock it. Addressing the same issue with Kelly a couple of days later resulted in a very friendly and proactive result. Late checkout arrangements made night before were very helpful and appreciated. Our stay was overall wonderful. Loved the location of our unit, the full sized kitchen and appliances, washer/dryer, view, patios, bbq, etc. Units were in decent condition (mild wear and tear evident, but most definitely did not seem run down at all). We stayed in a 3 level townhouse style unit with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Our bedrooms and bathrooms were separated (top and bottom floors) Which could make it difficult for families with small kids. Our friends stayed in a 1 level penthouse suite (large 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom with “front row” views and larger patio), and 2 level suite (3 bedroom and 3 bathrooms). All were in good used condition. Both our family with two young children, as well as the other families who ended up booking because of us wished the hot tub and penthouse fire pit had been available for use. Fire pit could have been made available at least for reserved hours to share and limit use amongst guests, particularly to encourage outdoor socializing versus indoor during covid. Our booking resulted in two other families booking as well that week, with another family considering booking in future as well. The value was fantastic given the space, in-unit amenities, and location. Highly recommend for stays of 3+ nights. Weekly rate was phenomenal for what it includes.…
We stayed in Unit 126. We chose this accommodation for the pet-friendly aspect, ocean view, and the kitchen and BBQ so we could minimize eating out due to COVID. Of the 5 apartment-style accommodations on Vancouver Island we stayed at, this had the most comfortable beds, and the most lacklustre everything-else. None of these were deal-breakers but we'd definitely explore other options next time we stay in Sooke. The good: - the in-suite washer and dryer work well - two balconies - the comfortable firm beds - the (loud) dishwasher works well - the view - the staff were hospitable and informative The annoying: - The barbeque grill was rusted. It seems someone tried to remedy that by laying a second grill on top, but that was also rusted. We chose not to use the barbecue for that reason. - The front desk is open 9-5. I was informed at check-in that before using the barbecue I should check that there was propane in the tank by 3pm, to give adequate time to swap tanks. That's helpful information, but isn't that something that resort staff should ensure before guests arrive? If you intend to use the barbecue the day you check in, I suppose that should be the first thing you do when you arrive. - The kitchen is outfitted with the bare minimum. No lemon juicer, so used a spoon. No strainer to strain the seeds, so used the back of a cheese grater. The cheese grater was dirty and the plastic was cracked. Two of the mugs were chipped or cracking, so didn't use those. - The plastic dish rack was dirty and needed cleaning. - The carpeted bedroom and stairs were marked with stains. Didn't come with bad carpet odour though, just a bit unsightly. - There was too much furniture in the living/dining areas or the pieces were too big for the space, so we had to dodge furniture as we moved around. I ended up rearranging things to make the space functional: pushed the recliner out of the way of the stairs, pushed the dining table so that the end chair facing the window could be used. The small living area had 6 dining tables, 3 bar stools, and a full sized dining, coffee and end table - no shortage of options for a place to sit here! - The TV is placed really high so you have to really tilt your head to see it from the couch. Another thing that was fine for us but might be a consideration for other travellers is that there are 2 bathrooms, neither of which are on the main floor. You'll get lots of exercise walking up and down stairs.…
