Detailed Reviews
The location is perfect. At the waters edge at the end of a pier Beautful sunrises with a low fog on the water. A short 5 minute drive from the centre of Sooke with deer to watch along the way. The accomodatipn was comfy but a little rustic. Breakfast was in room, make your own, continental style with homemade blueberry muffins that were excellant. The owners are friendly and very nice to talk to. Their sons run a whale watching tour boat (a 12 person zodiac) and were very knowledgeable about the area and the whales. When we saw T11 Rainy, (a transient Orca) Paul was truly excited. This is a place we will return to for a longer time and do some fishong.

Stayed here with a couple buddies on a motorcycle trip around the island. Two beds and a big couch (not a pull out) was perfect for us all to have a great night sleep. Shower was awesome as well! Unreal view and the hot tub was basically hanging over the ocean. The owners were super nice and she even baked us some treats!! Highly recommended and would love to go back with my family.

This property is in a good location with a beautiful view from the main house and hot tub area. The cottage we stayed in had no view at all. The rooms were comfortably furnished and were very spacious. It seemed very strange to us that the "breakfast" portion of "bed and breakfast" was a selection of foods in the fridge that we were told to cook for ourselves. Not exactly what we had expected. It seemed more trouble than it was worth to figure out the cooking arrangements in the tiny kitchen, so we ate only overly-sweet yogurt and granola with some lovely fresh fruit. The coffee maker was terrible and made only lukewarm coffee. No cream was provided. Overall, we mostly appreciated the setting of this property but the amenities were just average.

Be forwarned. The property management has changed hands (new management takes over as of June 1st), and the experience has been abysmal.
After booking the Harbourside suite (booked and paid for in February) for an August stay, I received an email this week, now months later (May), from the new property management company requesting I pay for the original booking, plus an added cleaning fee, plus a 3% service fee. There was no real discussion regarding my concerns, and no one was willing to call me; they would only respond via email. Their follow-up email that arrived a day later came with a lengthy contract and a new invoice for $699. Again, I'd already paid $542 through Booking. com.
The rates shown on the website are wrong. They offer $210 a night for the room I booked, but the new management sent me a contract showing they are charging $350 a night now, plus a cleaning fee and a 3% processing fee. The latest pricing works out to $479/night, a significant increase and strange considering the room rates I found at other establishments don't come close to this. Based on their revised rates, it is cheaper to stay at the Sooke Prestige Oceanfront Resort, and there is no lengthy contract to sign.
I've canceled and booked elsewhere now. Too bad, really; I was very much looking forward to this trip. I had planned to book again for my mom and me, but I won't now.
I do not recommend booking here until Salty Towers' new management improves their customer service. Attempting to charge more for something that has already been paid for is not good business practice.

Response from Doug Pudwell, Owner at Salty Towers Oceanfront Cottages
Responded Jan 18, 2024
Greetings Tammy, We are very sorry about the situation that happened with Iris Property Management. Due to health complications at the time, we had to find an alternative and tested out Iris. To say the least the testing did not work for us or our guests. Iris has now been let go and with the help of our children we are back to being 100% family run, with the previous amazing customer service we are known for. There will be no unexpected price increases, or hidden fees. We hope you will choose us again in the future as you had originally planned, so we can earn back those 4 missing stars.

The name of the property is misleading. The room I book was not an ocean front room nor a cottage. The room was attached to the house the owners live in. When I asked about it the owner said “you didn’t book a cottage “and proceeded to point to the shacks in the driveway.

The hotel is in a good location and the room was nice. Breakfast was provided. Unfortunately the owners were not pleasant, the room was not made up after the first night, the sheets not changed, the towels not changed, even the coffee cups not washed and no new coffee provided. The first contact with the owners was to have full payment in advance demanded.
This despoite having booked well in advance and secured the room.
Overall a disappointing experience.

This is a great place to stay when in Sooke. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. It is located right on the ocean so the view was great. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Its a great base of operations if your going on a salmon fishing trip. The fishing grounds are 5 minutes from were you are staying! Next time i am in Sooke this is were ill be staying!

I recently booked the family cottage for 2 nights. It was advertised as being suitable for 4 people, but that is not really true. Yes, 4 people can sleep in the two double beds, but the extra bed in what appears to have been a hallway in a previous existence, is very small and uncomfortable. The space is very small, so has a very small dining table with three chairs, not 4. We borrowed one from outside, but having 4 people at that tiny table only works if they are very cooperative people.
There is a short walk from the cottage to a deck that looks beautiful. We'd have enjoyed it a lot more if it had not been for the smell of the septic system (tank or leaking field - I couldn't tell). Which brings me to the toilet backup in the middle of the night.
There was food left for breakfasts and it was good.
Overall, I'd say we survived the visit and had a lovely evening meal at Sooke Harbour House, which is a very short walk away and a trip to Port Renfrew. The area around Salty Towers is very pleasant. We will not be returning to Salty Towers and cannot recommend the place for 4 adults, perhaps OK for 2 adults and one small child.

I had seen some positive and negative reviews about Salty Towers. I just had a gut instinct telling me to book with them. I was not disappointed. I had to sign up for Tripadvisor to give my first review.
Our hosts Gerri and Doug are very nice people and new owners of Salty Towers. Gerri answered and provided us with information on Sooke and surrounding areas. I absolutely love the location and went down to the docks almost everyday.
Our captin's quarters was very clean and very well decorated with the nauctical theme. There was hotub (could use flashlight in cabin to walk down on dark evenings), wifi (which we chose not to use), television (limited satellite), dvd/vcr, comfy beds and well stocked fridge, cupboards and fruit bowl. More than enough for our extended stay of 11 days.
We were having sort of a family reunion after our trip to Alaska. Gerri and Doug made us feel very much like Salty Towers was our own to use during this time. We had amazing good quality family time. We will deffinately be back to visit our family living in Sooke and hope to be guests of Gerri and Doug's again.

Salty Towers was a great romantic get away for my boyfriend and I. It was private and quite. I can't remember the last time I was that relaxed! We stayed in the "Harbour Side Cabin" and it had a great view. The hot tub was big land the jets had good pressure so you could really relax and enjoy the view! The shower inside was huge and the bed was extremely comfortable.
Breakfast fixings were provided for the first morning's breakfast as promised online and it all came in a super cute basket lined with a red checker cloth! It had eggs, juice, yogurt, oatmeal, bread, delicious jam, and milk (in a cute little old-style glass milk bottle)! The whole thing just made me smile:)
We had easy and close access to Neil and Maggie's (the owner's) private dock and we spent a lot of time crabbing and made stuffed mushroom caps with our freshly caught crab! We were close to restaurants and groceries and Whiffen Spit Park which was only a 3 minute walk from the cottages. We walked along the spit and enjoyed the water and views! I also really enjoyed the price when compared to a hotel where you don't get your own private hot tub and back yard area and are confined inside and outside is a parking lot!
It was a great place to stay! I would recommend it to anyone and will be going back in the future.
