We were riding a motorcycle from Toronto to Vancouver. Booked a room and dinner at Rock Island Lodge although we knew it would be tight. It's about 7 hrs from the Chi-Cheemaun ferry that docked at South Baymouth at 11AM. Got there 6:30Pm, straight off the bike and sat down to buffet dinner with other guests and locals from Wawa... David and his team have created an ideal retreat on the wild, but stunningly scenic, shores of Lake Superior near Wawa. The perfect mix of luxury with rustic charm, casual meals with gourmet food, room to relax with plenty to do. You can move at your own pace with no pressure to go anywhere but lots of options to be... More

The Rock Island Lodge is a simple and relaxing establishment that, although near Wawa, is off the beaten path (in a good way!). The property is on Lake Superior and offers beautiful views in every direction. The owners are friendly without being intrusive. Breakfast is included in the nightly rate and is healthy, delicious and plentiful. Dinner is available for... More

Location, Location, Location. What a beautiful spot on the north shore of Lake Superior, just north of the Lake Superior Provincial Park. The room was comfortable, but not fancy. The breakfast was fine. Good place to kayak, paddle board, canoe, hike or just sit and watch the water. The owners were friendly.

Stayed a couple nights as part of a trip around Lake Superior. Extremely friendly and accommodating folks, who asked us if we would like to participate (at cost) in dinners of chicken pot pie and whitefish. Not much elements in the town of Wawa, so the dinners were a really good deal. The lodge is on a rocky point, with... More

I knew we weren't getting a Delta, and by comparison, perhaps Rock Island is pretty good - compared to the roadside motels in this part of the country, but is was not at all what we had in mind. Its like a camp - the food, the rooms and the common area. The first and "best" room has its own... More

I've spent several nights at Rock Island and will spend many more. The setting is superb, the lodge is cozy and welcoming. Rooms are clean and spacious, most with wonderful views out their windows. In the evening you can relax down at the beach in front of a fire or inside the main room of the lodge beside the fire... More

3 nights 4 days of pleasure. The staff is great the views are better. Overall this is a great place to stay and recover from the world! We hiked, rock hunted, rested, paddle boarded, kayak, read, and had some great times talking with staff and fellow lodge guests. The views are to die for. The meals are first class. The... More

Spent a wonderful spring weekend here with family. Weather cooperated, with sunshine and comfortable hiking temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday. Lodge was a great base, comfortable beds, filling meals, cheerful staff and a magnificent view of Lake Superior. This is not a luxury resort, but rather a comfortable base for outdoor activities. Upscale camping with very nice rooms, homey... More
