We had a very nice stay at Sivalai. The beachfront bungalows had an amazing view and the hotel just has the most beautiful surroundings. The staff was very friendly and especially Soon was very helpful. Good breakfast with many different items to choose from. We really enjoyed our stay - thank you so much.
We spent 2 weeks in Thailand and decided we wanted to experience paradise and found it at Koh Mook (had been recommended by a friend). An amazing place where we spent to nights only. Arrived early day 1 and left late day 3 though. Recommend having 3 nights to be able to experience a little bit more of the island. Plan was to just relax and enjoy the hotel and beach, but you should also plan to visit the local village with shops and restaurants, and some other sights on the island as well. We arrived by speedboat from Koh Lanta (Saladan Pier) and the arrival itself is just as we pictured it. We had arrived to paradise. Picked up by electrical "golf cars" and taken to reception and later to our villa. Our driver, Suhn, was very friendly and offered the best service. Our Beachfront superior villa 1st row was just amazing. Big room with an amazing view from the bed straight out through the sliding doors to the terrace. Maybe a little bit cold water and low pressure in the shower, but all in all very nice. Even a small refrigerator which we filled up with cold drinks from a store/kiosk in the village to save some money;-) Our villa was the first one walking from the restaurant on the "north" side. Water outside villa not a good place for a swim, so would maybe recommend staying at the "south" side. Just be aware of some noise from the speedboats and longtail boats since they arrive and leave from there. Beach area very nice, even though not a really good place for swimming, but to cool off is quite ok. Water going down several meters at low tide in early afternoon. Breakfast is very good with lots to choose from. Eggs and omelettes made by order which I really appreciate. And once again a great view. For dinner we recommend going into the village and visit the local restaurants. Much, much cheaper and a great way to support the locals as well. We definetely recommende visiting Koh Mook and stay here for 2-3 nights.…
This bungalow-hotel is like a paradise, located directly at the beach. Nice and clean bungalow with fantastic view. Friendly staff, specially the luggage drivers. The food in the restaurant was okay, a bit to walk from our bungalow for breakfast.
I’ve been visiting beautiful beach destinations in Thailand for years. There is a fair chance I found the best at Sivalai. To get there by road it’s a bit daunting. Then a speed boat will take you across in 10 min. Apparently there are boat options to Koh Lanta and even Phuket. Imagine a narrow leaf with perfect beaches on both edges. Sivalai elegant bungalows are right at the tip, between both beaches. It is expensive, but the location is stunning. It is still a high tide zone, with sea going down meters at low tide. I encourage the open-minded traveller to walk out of the resort and to to try food and massage at more reasonable prices in the village nearby (5-10 min walk).
We booked Sivalai resort because of its location and indeed it is extraordinary but that is where it stops. Whilst you will pay a rate that would give you an ultra luxury branded property in Bangkok, here you get a stunning setting with, at best, 3 star amenities. Our villa was on the first row that is water front. Maintenance and upkeep is typical of a locally run hotel: poor with worn and torn bathroom linen, badly scratched timber deck (see photos) and staff bordering rudeness or certainly not the Thai graciousness you would expect. The breakfast buffet is horrible with the lowest quality produce you can find, the à la carte menu for lunch and dinner is very average and the best is to eat outside at the many free standing restaurants which offer better food and service. There are 2 swimming pools: one poorly maintained coated with a rubber film that is coming off so when you walk, you have the feeling to walk on a padded surface. The water is highly chlorinated so do wear goggles. We had problems opening the in room safe on 2 occasions, each time we were told to wait 10 minutes! On one occasion, we asked where is the DVD player which is advertised on the website and we were told. There were none!! Such a pity to have such an outstanding location with average amenities and service that will cost you 5 star rates!…
The resort was ok. It's family friendly and there are activities to arrange to explore the island. Good restaurants and a small town centre in walking distance, one of which has an cash machine/atm. Prices were definitely higher and the area in front the hotel is not that swimmable and we did not want to use the pool. Also, the boats going to/from the pier make steady noise through the day so it's not entirely quiet and the sea feel constantly busy because of the amount of boats. The resort is ok but was just too large for us and not our favourite as it was large and constantly busy. Compared to other islands and resorts, this one is definitely on the lower end unfortunately.
I stayed here for 3 nights in December and loved it. The room was quiet and comfortable and after dealing with the hustle and scorching temperatures in Bangkok I needed a place to recharge and relax. This resort is on an island and the bungalows are on the beach. Breakfast and lunch were amazing. Only topped iff by dinner on the beach every night. A huge spread of everything you could think of. I especially liked the seafood station. The front desk was friendly and helpful and I would stay here again!
Sivalai is a small paradise, located beyond first class on this small island of Koh Mook, service is top notch on every level. We enjoyed the view from our bongalow, which was actually on the beach. This is definitely not the last time we are booking this special amazing hotel.
If you want an easy access resort Sivalai might not be the place for you, but the journey to get there is a fun adventure in itself. From Krabi airport it is a 90 minute car drive (less from Trang airport) then a 30minute transfer on a long-tailed boat, and a small jump in the water as the boat lands right on the resort’s beach. The resort consists of attractive and well-constructed cabins. Nos. 102 to 108 are doubles, beach front on the sunnier beach. 111 etc. are middle row (most with some views between the other huts) and 121 etc. are larger beach front on the shadier beach. The lower the number the nearer to the Restaurant. The newest and furthest huts are some 200metres from the restaurant with a walk through pleasant gardens. The open sided restaurant sits at the point of the island and two of its three sides are bordered by the beach and with lovely views. Breakfast 8 till10am is buffet style with a wide enough range to meet most tastes. Lunch and Dinner are also buffet (Dinner ThB400). We enjoyed the food, but also ate out in the nearby village for a fraction of the price. There are two swimming pools, a dive school, bike hire, excursions, boat trips, massage centre etc. Safe swimming areas are coned off on the beaches, both of which are open to the public but never crowded, lovely white sand, cleaned daily, and clear warm water. There is a lot of boat activity as the island is home to three large villages and there is also a constant changeover of tourists, so if you want a beach where all you can hear is the lapping of the waves you might not like it here, but we found the marine activity added interest to the lovely views and was never intrusive. Our cabin (No. 102) we judged to be the best situation as it is close to the restaurant, sea swimming area directly opposite, palm trees to give extra (necessary) shade and a small floral bush to provide partial privacy. The boats land on the beach just a short way to the side for added interest. The original cabins are no longer “spanking new”, but they are spacious and clean with TV etc. hanging and storage, safe, fridge (two bottles of water free daily), kettle/tea etc. excellent and easily controllable air-con. Mosquito net and electric anti-mozzie devices (though we didn’t find mozzies a particular problem). The washroom, toilet & shower room is a bit dark, uncooled, but open to the outside by wire mesh so no steamed up mirror! A very generous supply of towels (also for the beach/pool). We were there for New Year’s Eve party (ThB3500) and 6 (yes 6) hours of good entertainment and an excellent buffet. A short walk through the resort leads into the main village with a range of small shops and eating places. There is easy walking through the jungle via the narrow concrete roads, or take a motor-bike taxi (ThB50 p.pn) It goes without saying that the Thai staff are friendly and helpful, but we found them even more so than usual and very efficient too. (Being of advanced years, a day or so before departure I asked if a small ramp could be provided so that we didn’t get too wet clambering up onto the Long Tail boat. This duly arrived, with helping hands and our (heavy) cases all taken care of.) A lovely relaxed resort for a peaceful, lazy (hot) holiday and a peek at authentic Thai living.…
WATCH OUT! Extremely bad service from the hotel manager! Police and blackmail. We stayed at Sivalai Resort for 4 nights. 1 night was fine, then a short electric breakdown hit the resort. After that the thermostat on our air condition became dysfunctional. At 24 degrees it got extremely hot, and at 23 degrees it became freezing (the cooler never stopped - since the thermostat was dysfunctional). This resulted in 2 nights without sleep and several staffs and an engineer tried to solve and repair without luck. No one offered us moving to another room. Finally we were moved to another room for the last night, where the air condition worked perfect as at the first night before the electric breakdown. At check out, we asked for a reduction. This is a 10.000 bath/night hotel, and by far the most expensive on Koh Mook. The hotel manager offered and insisted on 4.000 bath reduction. We went for 8.000 bath, which still is below 1 nights price - but she insisted! And THEN the hotel manager claimed that WE were the ones to blame, and that WE didn’t know how to operate the air condition!!!!!! We’ve been to hundreds of hotels around the world, and never had any issues operation air cons. We then left the reception without paying a restaurant bill at 4.300 bath, and headed for the beach for our pickup to the main land. Here we were met by the police, several security guards and a half smiling/laughing hotel manager, who blackmailed us to pay the bill before leaving the island. We must say, that this was, by far, the worst service, we have ever experienced. It’s a shame that a hotel manager a the most expensive hotel on the island shall “destroy” a holiday on beautiful Koh Mook. This could simply have been solved by moving us to another room and offering us a free dinner at the restaurant. But I’m afraid the hotel manager has never learned about the “service rule number one” - the customer is always right! We highly recommend all other hotels on Koh a Mook than Sivalai Resort!…
