I finally have found the time to write this long overdue review, I'm new to this so here goes! My husband, and I stayed at the lodge in August. It was a much needed escape from our hectic lives. All the staff from the moment we arrived to until the moment we left, with two 'on the house coffees&muffins', was... More

We didn't even stay here just stopped to use the wifi it's the only wifi in an 40km radius. The friendly staff let us stay in the reception area. They gave us perfect hiking information with a map of the Parc. After taht we had coffee with freshly baked banana muffins in the restaurant. For info the place to stop... More

Very basic accommodation and not inexpensive. The views were spectacular but the room is really tired, smelly and noisy. You pay for the view, not for the room. The only thing going for this place is the absolutely beautiful scenery around it, the National Park is absolutely great for hiking. But the acomodation is not worth the money. The restaurant... This place has a split personality, part chilled hostel and part rustic boutique hotel. The location is stunning. Due to a wedding party taking up most of the place while we were there we stayed in a basic room in the main building. This was a hostel style room with no views, but comfortable enough. I get the impression the... More

A great place to get rid of the jetlag and get away from the hussle and bussle of modern life! Our cottage was by the lake with lake views from the bed and sitting area, had the feeling of being alone in the forest. Great food with a varied selection of interesting ingredients and flavour combinations, whether it was for... More

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a wonderful dinner at Myrna's. Each course was delectable and beautifully presented. The chef, the server, the owners and directors went out of their way to make us feel special and to ensure everything was to our liking.

Stayed in cottage 5. Not sure I'd like to be in the lodge itself but the cottage was fantastic, amazing views of the lake and lovely wood burning stove. A proper escape from technology with no TV or wifi in the cottage! Loads of fantastic walking in Strathcona national park- would really advise both the Philips ridge trail and trail... More

What a great two days in this lovely resort. Many of the amenities were not for us but brilliant if you have a family. We had a lovely clean room in the lodge overlooking the lake where we did manage a kayak for a short time until my husband got cramp!! Used this as a base for going on the... More

The lodge has a lot of atmosphere but it is a bit old and not so well kept. The location is outstanding at the foot of the mountains and next to the lake. Activities are plentiful, but we concentrated on hiking. The food is generally very good especially if you pick the better of the two restaurants named Myra. Staff... More

I just finished an amazing 6 day sea kayaking with the owners Jamie and Tina. It was amazing, I came here from Newfoundland to meet up with my aunt. We stayed an extra day on either end and the food was amazing and the swimming there was so refreshing. The trip itself was beyond the expectations I had. With no... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Living on the edge since 1959, Strathcona Park Lodge pioneered self propelled and off the grid wilderness experiences on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. From the lake side cabins, chalets and rooms experience wilderness inspired summer holidays, guided trips and group gatherings. Home base for WYLD youth summer camps, the COLT leadership training program and outdoor education programming, SPL is a leader in experiential education and wilderness vacations. The setting The Boulding family chose well when they picked the site for Strathcona Park Lodge. From almost every room on the property you can get an amazing view of glacier carved valleys, big pristine lakes and rocky/snowcapped peaks. There are several hikes, viewpoints, protected bays and beaches, climbing bluffs, old growth trees, high ropes courses and zip lines -- and that's just on the property. Strathcona Provincial Park, B.C.'s oldest protected area, is just down the road. Within 30 minutes go whitewater paddling, mountain biking, more rock climbing, or lace up for interpretive walks, hikes and mountaineering routes. A little further is world class sea kayaking and whale watching on both sides of Vancouver Island. Summer vacations Perfectly poised between the mountains of Strathcona Provincial Park and a sprawling lake chain the Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the heart of Vancouver Island. Hike, paddle, climb or just sit back and relax on the beach. Stay in lake-side cabins, mountain view chalets or hotel style rooms overlooking it all. Refuel on delicious and healthy food. Disconnect from the wired world and return recharged. Group Gatherings The Lodge loves groups. Big or small, 200 to 10, we have the capacity, facilities and experience to make any gathering unforgettable. Every year we host multiple weddings, family reunions and other large groups on our picturesque and family friendly setting. With a dedicated staff we take care of every detail. Outdoor education/school programs In the spring and fall schools visit Strathcona to learn outside of the classroom. Removed from their everyday, challenged mentally and physically and exposed to new experiences, our specially trained leaders help students gain confidence, leadership, teamwork and camaraderie - skills that can't be learnt from a desk. These are experiences students remember forever. WYLD summer camps A summer camp like no other, Wilderness Youth Leadership Development (WYLD) Expeditions are 8 to 12 day expeditions for adventurous teens, 12 to 17 years old. Based out of the Lodge's lakeside location, the camps explore the hiking trails, lakes, inlets, beaches, islands and mountains of Vancouver Island by foot, sea kayak and canoe. COLT Leadership Semester We believe COLT is the best outdoor leadership program in Canada. Founded in 1977 by Canada's oldest outdoor education centre, COLT is a learn-by-doing program with the best job opportunities, instructors and learning environment. And for the price no other program comes close to offering as much. Participants graduate with hard skills, like sea kayaking, rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater paddling, but even more soft skills, like leadership, group dynamics, teamwork, confidence and determination. ... more   less
