Perfecr location in Campbell River on the ocean across from Quadra Island. Very large property with numerous stay options. We stayed in a gorgeous, large oceanview room in the main lodge. Staff was top notch. The grounds are lovely but the resort has seen better days.Away from the main lodge one can see some neglect. Prices were high but we did book on short notice and in peak time. Would definately stay again.

After having a not very good stay last year, we tried again. A week after we booked the ocean view manager's suite I was called and told that, due to renovations, it was unavailable. We were put into a small ocean view room with two beds. The mini fridge in our room was loud and froze the food and drinks we had in there. The shower squealed every time it was turned on. We had to go to the main building for breakfast but as the bottom door was locked on the building in the morning we had to go around. This consisted of either walking up the steep, slushy driveway or frozen steps. The back stairs to the restaurant were impassible as well due to slush and ice. We weren't the only guests complaining of this danger either. The breakfast was good and the manager Peter was wonderful. I know renovations are ongoing but cleaning practices should be looked in to. The light in our bathroom was full of dead bugs, the shower had peeling wallpaper in it with a black substance underneath and the lamp shade had coffee stains. So...we probably won't be back a third time.

My wife and I enjoyed our experience at Painters Lodge. First, the Ocean views, and the aura of history at this property. Secondly, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, the Manager, Peter was a gracious host. Third. the breakfast was excellent, bacon. scrambled eggs and much more, which was included. I am happy to see this historic Resort back in business.

If I could give this "resort" a zero I would. I reserved a guaranteed non-smoking room for one night, paid in full. The room I was assigned smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The desk staff who opened the room up immediately made an excuse that it was cigarette smoke coming in through the windows from the patio below. I replied that I know the difference between second hand smoke and smoke impregnated walls/carpet/curtains. She ignored me. There was no one on the patio smoking at the time of the room review. The staff did nothing to provide me with another room, or to find other suitable accommodations. In contacting their parent company (Wyndham Hotels and Resorts), I received a reply asking for booking number. One month later, they tried to tell me that I had been in New Jersey (?). Yet another month after re-sending the details of the hotel, still no response. Stay anywhere but Painters Lodge Resort while in Campbell River.

...but I can't. My guess is this facility has not been upgraded in 40 years. Room carpeting, filthy; the smell, bad. I have read responses to negative reviews indicating a renovation due in 2023; I sure hope that happens. I very much look forward to another stay someday, but only after the upgrade and positive reviews. I must add the staff was friendly and helpful.

Staying at Painters Lodge has been a pleasant experience. We reD all the negative reviews but our experience is different. From arriving at the property the gardens are delightful. The entrance to the hotel is charming and staff very helpful. We did request an upgrade but none available. The room does need some upgrade and our room was dark. There was a balcony which overlooked the car park but afternoon was on the balcony and the hotel was mot busy. The main restaurant was closed but we had a meal in the pub area which was nice. The setting if the hotel is lively. Yes it needs some investment which hopefully will be happening bit I would stay here again

We were a bit apprehensive about having late lunch here after reading the recent reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. We all had fish and chips and the food was great. Service was also great. I think this is a place on the up and if you haven’t been here for a while, I would encourage you to give it a second chance.

We had a very nice, large room with vaulted ceilings, sitting area and windows and porch overlooking the water. Sunrise was spectacular watching geese fly by and wild mink swimming and playing near shore. The grounds are attractive. Also one evening at sunset we got to watch 3 cruise ships go by which was fun. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. However, things are worn and in need of updating. Breakfast was unremarkable. There is no housekeeping. And the pub was busy and service poor (although they were trying). Many places are struggling to find staff, and it seems this is a large part of the problem here. We were happy but 2 nights was enough. Would go back if renovated and fully staffed.

Hello, thank you so much for your honest review.... your spot on. Staff shortages continue to be a problem and the Lodge is ready for renovation. Good news renovations start next month, we hope to have a good chunk done by April 2023. Our Renovation plan spans over a 2 year plan to bring this precious heir loom back to its former glory. I do hope you visit us again when we are well into renovation and magnificence.

Good points - The outside of the hotel is lovely - views, car park, gardens are well kept. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Bad points - The inside unfortunately needs a total refurbishment. Rooms are awful, like stepping back into the 80s, cold, full of mosquitoes, dark, damp, more like a motel than a hotel. Zero amenities, even though there was a note saying complimentary water - but no water lol. We also found someone else’s sock on the floor…. Breakfast was a very small selection and completely freezing cold food. The bar was dirty, tables sicky with food on them, low selection of alcohol whith no premium options. Terrible disco music playing including the friends theme tune. I asked multiple times to move rooms but was told that there was zero availability and it was fully booked out. I asked for a room with at least a view or even just a higher floor or anything at all better but was told it’s not possible. Although the full stay I seen about 20 people max. This is by far one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in ever and the price we paid was ridiculous. It is not worth it. You can get amazing air bnbs for a similar price and if you pay slightly more, better hotels close by. Every local we spoke to told us this unfortunately after we had checked in and we’re not able to get a refund.

Hello Coco, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Im so sorry things were not up to standard and meeting your expectations. You will be pleased to know that renovations are under way. Agreed, it is hard to see guests, it's because our lodge is so spread out, and many guests take advantage of the surrounding area for hiking and sightseeing plus all the tours offered from the marine centre. It is grizzly bear season which is a 8-9 hour tour. I will check on the capacity that day and see if I can find out more about what went wrong during your stay. Thanks again for letting me know.
