The Winston Lodge is a small, self-catering, rustic lodge nestled in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. Located 13km from downtown Golden, we are just steps away from the heart of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Our 11 guest rooms feature traditional hand crafted wood furniture, feather down beds and private balconies. The Winston boasts a large common area featuring a floor to ceiling fireplace with a large seating area. Head out our front door for a ski, hike or bike! Enjoy an authentic mountain escape with us! High speed Internet and telephones are replaced with fresh mountain air, classic Canadian decor and picturesque views. Leave your worries at the door.
Winston Lodge is in the vicinity of Golden - some 12 klm or so away from the main town. It is a nice drive to get there from the town. We arrived and the lodge was open, but no-one was at reception (around 4pm). Room key was in an envelope with instructions as to where to find our room. We went in and the air conditioning was on and some nice music playing - we thought this is going to be great!. The room was large, bed large and bathroom very spacious. Room was a little dusty, and the TV a bit too small to see well if you wanted to watch a movie from the bed. The room had a small balcony with a nice outlook to the trees but there were so many mosquitos outside we couldn’t use it. We were there for 2 nights and the only time we saw any staff was when we were checking out. The lodge is described as self catering but I could not see any facilities other than a BBQ - there was one table with only 4 chairs - we were lucky that there were very few guests so we were able to use it one night to eat our takeaway meal from town - there were no restaurants nearby. I dont know if there were any facilities available for our use as there was no-one there to explain what was available for our use. The common area looked old and dusty - if you dont want guests please just say your are closed.…

The mountain area was beautiful and we enjoyed our time exploring. Sadly, our room was dusty, no physical staff were present to answer any questions (option to email for assistance, which was answered the next day) we had a single fan to cool our room off, and a small “facial bar” for hand soap. We felt that the price we paid to stay was far to much for what received and decided that the cost was due to its location to the mountain.

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Winston Lodge. Heather and Travis and both extremely helpful in all aspects! Gave great recommendations for food and things to do. Awesome place to stay when visiting the resort.

Stayed here towards the end of the summer season and before it closed until December. It’s in a lovely setting. The bedroom was a little small but very nice. The bathroom was huge and lovely. Beds extremely comfortable and we slept very well. There’s a tiny fridge and a coffee maker in the room and a microwave downstairs to use. I think in ski season it will be very cosy and comfortable. One of the problems with it is that the only place to get breakfast is at the resort itself. The lodge has a restaurant open at nights in ski season. Helpful young man at the front desk. I would love to go back in the winter or even the height of the summer. I would recommend staying here if you like rustic.

staff/service: we arrive for check in late - after office hours. They had a phone number to call for after hours and the gentleman answering was very friendly and helpful over the phone to explain the LTE check-in process. establishment: hidden in the mountains with nice view. (Walking distance from ski hill) a cute, quaint, lodge with a super homey feel. We checked in after hours and the place felt safe and welcoming even with nobody at the front desk. Our group had two rooms booked. They both appeared clean. Beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were very spacious - loved the old bathtub/jacuzzi feel. Had a bit of a leaking shower-head. Coffees and beverages available in room and lobby. Looking forward to staying here again on the way back home!

We stayed for two nights at the lodge. It was good but nothing extraordinary. Good location, comfy bed. No heat in our room, very basic shower. The shared great room in the lodge was nice - had a basic/help yourself feel. The ski/boot storage area was nice. Attached restaurant/pub had a nice vibe!

Stayed here to be close to the mountain to so some biking. Comfortable with a nice lodge feel. The staff were friendly and the attached restaurant was good. Walking distance to the base, gondola, and restaurants. Would recommend for anyone looking to be close to the mountain and enjoy a nice stay.

My husband and I stopped for one night and loved our room - well appointed with robes, great deck with two comfortable chairs, great TV reception and a comfortable bed. No other restaurant was open around us at this time perhaps with the downturn in the economy due to COVID except the wine bistro at the hotel which had a limited but acceptable menu. Only disappointment for us was there was no in room coffee service and because of COVID the usual communal coffee service was unavailable with a sign that said the front desk staff would be happy to get refreshments for us - great if you are not an early riser as they didn't start until 9am and so we decided to hit the road early as no fun sitting in bed lounging with no coffee!

Rustic hotel with a welcoming feel. It is nestled on the mountain top and it was a bit of a drive when we reached the hotel. It was raining and night time. Couldn't find the reception very easily. We accidentally entered someone's house which was right behind the hotel and there was no fence around. The homeowners guided us to where the hotel reception was. We had called in advance to let them know of our late arrival and a letter with instructions was left for us. Check out was fairly simple. I asked for an hour extra (their check out time is 1030am) and we got it easily. The girl at the reception was very friendly. The jetted tub was lovely and so was the feel of the hotel. I wont give it 5 stars as there was no microwave in the room, the bed creaked and one of the legs of the bed stood on a book (see pic attached). If I am visiting Golden, I will definitely stay again.…

OK, no real reception, but we just asked in the very friendly bar, the rooms and bathrooms are really smart, the cozy atmosphere in the bar was a great addition, breakfast was good in the adjoining restaurant, great location, 5mins walk to the gondola at kicking Horse, would recommend and certainly return.
