Our stay at the Winston lodge was a pleasent surprise. Even though the drive up to the mountain, especially during the night, could be tricky, it is worth it for sure. The place has a great character that fits well with the surrounding mountains for sure. The exteriour of the place is nice, warm, simple and very friendly. We had great time spending 3 days and 3 nights there. August was not a too busy time to visit the area, but breathtaking locations with great outdoor activities were available close by. I have not expected the gondola running, so that was an other pleasant surprise. I bet, the area is full and busy during skiing season, but worth to visit all year around.

We stayed here for 2 nights during our visit to Golden and although the lodge and setting are very beautiful our stay here was just OK. The staff are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Our ground floor room with ensuite was bright, spacious and cozy but there were a couple of issues that tarnished our stay here. Firstly, there was no blind on the bathroom window opposite the toilet which felt very strange at night and when showering in the morning.....given the angle of the bathroom window from the ground parking lot below, you may not be able to see into the lower half of the bathroom but it still felt oddly uncomfortable to have a bare window in a bathroom overlooking a parking lot. Also the king size bed (which was actually 2 single beds pushed together) was very lumpy & uncomfortable and it was extremely hot in our room overnight (despite us having turned off the thermostat) -- both of these made for a very poor sleep both nights....but on a positive note, it was very quiet here. Lastly, the wifi was very spotty in our room but better if you went into the main common area of the lodge. The continental breakfast included was very disappointing and minimal the first morning but it was better the second day...so maybe they had run out of many items on the first morning but if we had been staying here for only 1 night we would have been very disappointed. This lodge has great potential to be a fantastic stay if some upgrades were done....but as it is now, we would not stay here again.

The staff were really great. The food was OK. The lodge itself is rustic with very comfortable common areas. Two males travelling on motorcycles so reserved two rooms a few weeks in advance. First room was on second floor with nice view down the valley. Second room was on ground floor looking out at a number of parked cars in a gravel lot even though both rooms were priced the same. In addition the ground floor room had a number of issues - two dirty facecloths had been left sitting next to the bathtub; something had been mounted on the wall of the bathroom which had been torn away and no effort had been made to clean up or repair the unsightly mess; upon turning on the cold water for the bathtub, the handle (which clearly had been previously broken and simply set back in place) came off in my hand; when attempting to plug in my cell phone charger I found one of the plugs was not working. None of these items in themselves causes me to give this property a poor rating. Rather it's because of the top dollar we paid combined with the number of issues in the room. I did go back to the check in area in the adjacent building with the intention of pointing out these issues but because it was off season, no staff were there and I was anxious to have a cold beer after a long day riding so didn't bother using the phone to call the manager at home. In the end I was very disappointed with the quality of the experience.

To start with, the lodge is beautiful. For the price, it really is outstanding and plenty of room for a family of five. It was incredibly quiet when we stayed and the views were breathtaking. The proviso is our stay was marred by not being able to have open windows or allow our children out on the balcony due to substances being smoked morning, afternoon and evening on the balcony next door - by people who were seen working at the lodge. We have made two complaints and received no response to the correspondence when a simple apology would have sufficed. It’s a shame because the accommodation itself really was impressive but the customer care has been sub-par.
