Have known these premises for years, was married there in 1999 and returned this year for Anniversary celebrations. Very little has changed and the place is looking tired. Carpets and furniture are old, our bathroom was dated and many places need paint, our bedroom door for example. We paid an extra $100 for the American plan which included a 3... More

Dear alsupremo, Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed the wonderful food, the well-kept inside and outside pools and the good value. Your suggestions for service are most appreciated. We hope we can welcome you back to enjoy the new dock (September) and our planned winter upgrades. Hugh Sibbald More

I have just returned home from a delightful week at The Briars. My friend and I were looking forward to relaxing, but we also wanted to do some new and interesting activities. I learned how to play Bocce and enjoyed the afternoon boat ride on Lake Simcoe that included a brief history of the area. One evening, I joined the... More

My 75 year old parents treated my family to a few days at The Briars during March Break 2016. My husband and I have three children aged 15, 14 and 12. It is a lovely spot. The time of year is not ideal as too warm for winter sports and too cold for summer sports. That is life in Canada... More

Dear Cynthia, We're pleased you enjoyed the food and most staff. I'm sorry the fire was disappointing. In early March a guest had melted the unit with an inferno and it sounds like our staff member was overly cautious. We have a larger firepit and offer nightly bonfires which the guests are really enjoying. Thank you for your helpful comment.... More

I love the feel of the Inn. The spa is great. I always get a pedicure and it's always perfect. The food is very good - having said that - the menu very rarely changes. As i don't eat red meat, after 2 days of being at the Inn it is very boring. I would love to see more items... More

Dear Mablazer, We are pleased that you enjoy the spa, the time with your daughter and the food - especially the sticky toffee pudding. We appreciate the suggestions about the menu and the inn. You may find our summer barbecues very enjoyable, when we offer different fresh fish daily, chicken and often a fabulous vegan beet burger. Hugh Sibbald More

I made a trip to have lunch at The Briars, it was the worst dining experience I had in my life. The server did not clean up the wet and dirty table, she did not give me any spoons for my coffee and soup. I ordered a pork chop; and I received an almost uncooked pork chop after almost 30... More

I’m so sorry Jocelyn! May I suggest that, while the allure of the big shady oak out on our beautiful lawn is tempting, accepting our offer to seat you on the lovely patio where we offer meal service will help assure that we can better respond to your requests. Best wishes, Hugh Sibbald More

I stayed two nights at The Briars (on full Board package) based on the web site pictures and general reviews that it is a "luxury resort." I've stayed at resorts and hotels all over the world - from high end to dives - and honestly, I am not fussy. but I expect to get what I pay for. The prices... More

My wife and I go at least twice a year to this resort for the past several years as we truly enjoy the facilities, i.e. the lake, indoor/outdoor pools, golf course, tennis courts, bike rides and yoga classes as well as outstanding gourmet meals. They have a great staff and very nice accommodations. This year they have finally upgraded to... More

We have looked forward to staying at this family-owned establishment for some time and we were delighted with the service standards especially at the front desk. The front line staff were helpful and they treated as though we belonged. Our package was two days with all meals included. The dinners were gourmet standard; well presented; fairly well served and flavourful.... More

I stayed for two nights with a group event. The room furnishings were comfortable, the scenery of the grounds, the access to the lake, the walk through the grounds and the golf course all were very relaxing. It's also a treat if you have some time to visit the spa. The clock tower is also a great place to hang... More

My wife booked one of the ballrooms for our daughter's shower and I had lunch in the pub and walked the grounds. Both events were a great success. The Inn has some amazing architecture built over time, much of it joined together creating unusual spaces. The grounds are magnificent and include the beach on Lake Simcoe, lawns, trails, ancient trees,... More
