Booked on choicehotels.com and got a good rate for members. Cheaper than on Booking.com. Friendly staff at check in. Stayed in a King suite. Room was quiet, spacious and clean. Breakfast in the morning was very good....crispy bacon :) Would stay here again.
We stayed here for a hockey tournament and things were generally good. Check in went smoothly. Our room was big, modern and clean, The staff was friendly. The included breakfast was adequate. However, things went not so great after my son broke his wrist in a game. The morning of checkout, after having been in the ER until 3am, and with my son unable to do much, we were moving slowly. I called the front desk and asked if we could stay in the room until 12pm (checkout is 11am). The response from the desk clerk was a very cold, “No.” No offer to see what he might be able to do. No alternative suggestion like saying my son could wait in the lobby. Not even a, “Sorry to hear that.” This lack of any attempt to go the extra mile is what sets average businesses apart from great ones.
Looks like all the renovations are done, the place looks nice and clean. Rooms are spacious, a lot more than we expected for a $120 night king room. While there isn't much beside the hotel, everything is just a few blocks away. We would recommend this place for anyone looking for a quick comfortable stay. Only issue we had was that the heating system was loud, that's why we have it 4/5. It desnt compare to a $300 a night hotel but it does compare to Hilton's etc. Which is normally our go-to.
We booked a small but spacious suite with a king-size bed. Very comfortable. Quiet (facing courtyard). Included breakfast was plentiful and good. Sugar donuts at the front desk are a nice touch. Kitchenette with a small fridge, small sink, microwave, and coffee maker in the room. Everything we needed for a good night's stay, followed by a short trip to the Via train station nearby.
It is not the norm for me to complain however in this case I was very disappointed not only in the incident but how staff responded. We booked the Hotel because both my wife and I were working late and needed to be back to work in Oshawa and Whitby for 7:00 am. We live in Little Britain, ON which is an hour drive from Whitby. In particular my wife is a Nurse and she had worked a long shift on Dec 31, and was booked to return on January 1, 2020 for 7:00 am. I stay at the hotel approximately 5-6 times throughout the year along with a few other stays in other areas. We have known the hotel since inception when it was built and owned by Mr. Roland from Belleville. The hotel just recently went through some major renovations making it very desirable and comfortable. Upon arrival front desk did not acknowledge my membership which they normally do offering me options for points, water etc. This did not really concern me at the time. They have coffee available 24 hrs however upon arrival the coffee was empty and I mentioned it to the front desk with no response – again it really was no big deal. Staying New Years Eve I did expect to hear a cheer at midnight, however it did not stop there. There were young people roaming the halls, with drinks and sitting in the new comfy leather chairs at the elevator all night. It would have been ok but they were loud, on their phones, facetiming, running up and down the halls which prevented us from getting the sleep we were hoping for. I went down to the front desk several times ( about 3:00 – 4:00 am) where a young girl was working. I asked if something could be done about the noise, her reply was that it was New Years, and that she had instructions not to confront anyone as they had an incident last year. (no empathy). I asked about security and she replied that they went home at 1:00 am. That left her all alone with a hotel full of guest some of whom were being a disturbance. There was even a guy running around our floor with a ski mask on which was very concerning. Throughout the night there was yelling, loud laughing, lots of foul language and even a minor fight. We came down for something to eat before going to work only to find breakfast which is written on our information as Mon-Fri 6:00 am/Sat & Sun 7:00 am. I asked the front desk clerk why there was no breakfast and she said I should have been told when I checked in that being a holiday it would be 7:00 am. That pretty much finished me off, as one of the reasons I like the Hotel is their early breakfast. To top it off the coffee flask was empty, but staff did make an effort to make a pot before we left. I have left a message for the manager to call me which is yet to be seen. The welcome brochure states “We are proud of our facilities and our friendly staff. Their consistent courteous service will help to set the stage for total relaxation during your stay.” I am really hopeful this is a one off,…
