Banff Gates is a short drive away from Canmore and Banff National Park. There are a few great trails to hike starting right by the resort and watching the deer forage in the snow was a great experience. The staff were friendly every time we went into the lodge. There were movies to borrow, a lovely lodge with lots of games and activities and a swimming pool. The couch in our cabin needs replacing. It was very cold for part of our stay and we did find the cabin chilly. Beds were good, though.
I’d read so many reviews of this place before we visited but I intend to ignore bad reviews & make my own mind up & I’m so glad I I did. We absolutely loved it here & didn’t want to leave. The staff were lovely. The pool & spa lovely & relaxing. They have games books & dvds to borrow & there’s a gamesroom for the kids. The chalet was large, the beds comfy & the heating system excellent. We had a large deck with a gas bbq. The views were outstanding. The resort is nestled in the forest at the foot of pigeon mountain. We loved the peace & quiet & only a 10 minute drive from Canmore. Yes the chalets are a little rustic but it was spotlessly clean. If your looking for accommodation just outside the main tourist areas you won’t go wrong with this place & for what we paid (a third of the price than Banff or Canmore) we were more than happy. Ignore the bad reviews & give it a go, you won’t be disappointed…
So much work would have to be done to get this place up to par that I do not even know where to start. The air conditioning situation, the dishwasher, the road. I think the worst part was trying to take care of your business in that bathroom that was so small you could barely turn around in there.
Had a great time at the resort, there were tons of activities to do set up around the lodge. I loved that there were hiking trails you could access from the resort. The only downfall for me was the no a/c, the top room got unbelievable hot. We could also hear a mouse running around but we’re unsure if it was in the walls or in the house. Awesome views from our little cabin!
This is a wonderful location as the gateway to the Candian Rockies. Beautiful scenery. Staff is friendly and very helpful. But the chalets are in dire need of maintenance. Screens not fitting windows (no AC), furniture very worn, floors unlevel, overall unit needs updating badly.
We took the gondola to the Eagles Eye Restaurant for lunch. What a wonderful experience enjoying exceptional food in an unreal setting amongst the mountain tops.! Great service and food following an incredible gondola ride! Later took the lift to see Boo the grizzly bear Interpretive Centre. What a wonderful experience. Boo does not disappoint! What a wonderful experience to learn about these magnificent creatures. The staff were very knowledgeable, and passionate about their work. A big thank you!
We stayed here in January for a family ski vacation. The cabin was the perfect size for a family of 4. Upstairs bedroom with comfortable king bed and ensuite bathroom for the parents and a bedroom on the main floor wihh the two twin beds for each of our kids. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was a large entrance to keep all of our ski gear. It is very remote with nothing really to walk to except the main lobby but it had a games room that we visited once. It is a short drive to Canmore and Banff. I would stay there again.
I stayed at the BGMR Nov 24 to 28, 2021. I had an infestation of gnats flying around the chalet for my whole stay there. (probably 20 to 30 gnats on the windows every morning) After complaining, they tried bleach down the sink, and then brought me a cup filled with a solution, supposedly a fruit fly trap. (Neither worked) I discussed this matter with the manager and requested some sort of compensation. He offered me a 2 night complementary stay and I said I was pretty sure I didn't want to stay there again. I did not like how they handled the bug situation and I suggested a 2 night credit to my credit card instead. The manager agreed to this however upon check out he had left me a gift certificate for a 2 night stay...I emailed the manager and he did not respond...then I called and left a message stating I was going to write review such as this if we did not get this resolved....so he sent me an email saying he forwarded my concerns to the VP of Operations, but no name or phone number. I had requested this from the manager and no response!! I then sent an email to the Latour Group before Christmas and to date have heard nothing....Inept customer service all the way around...I would never stay at this place again...even with a 2 night complementary stay....I had also suggested in my first email to the manager that I was willing to take a credit of one night plus resort fee....This is the worst customer I have ever experienced in a mountain resort. The best thing I can say about this place.....the scenery was beautiful....…
Units are old but functional and spacious. Squeaky upstairs floors but ok unless someone is sleeping below. Awesome location. Pool and hot tub were great. Games room for the kids. Staff very friendly and helpful. I sure enjoyed our stay and would return for sure.
Best views and natural area creates a wonderfully restful place to enjoy the mountains. Cabins are large with great decks, BBQ for each unit and pool facility very clean. Close to wildlife and local attractions.
