Unsatisfactory. This was an overnight stay along the 400km GEA long distance walking path along the Apennines. The bed and dinner were just about ok but it was the least welcoming of the many stops along the route. This is not a Refuge in the sense that walkers might expect: this and the other so-called Rifugios at Lago Santo Modenese, if and when open, seem be more oriented to trade from the nearby car-park. The earliest breakfast offered for our long next day’s walk was 8am but nobody showed up in time to serve it. They would not accept payment - so we donated it instead to the Red Cross Earthquake fund. Lago Santo deserves better. More

It's a very nice shelter in a stunning location and easy to reach.
The rooms are very clean and warm, but unfortunately the restaurant is not as good as the accommodation. The holders are very kind and have a familiar attitude towards the customers, don't hesitate to ask them for tips specially if you are not used to mountain because they know very well how to deal with the mountain.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Overlooking the "Lago Santo" (Santo Lake), the refuge is like a little hotel and restaurant; it's recognized as landmark by groups, ski-schools, alpinism and touring. Winter sporting activities are primarily ski alpinism, snowboard (practiced also out footstep, called backcountry), fallings, channels and ice colanders; walk with snow rackets, winter alpinism. In summer you can do: trekking, alpinism, climbing, mountain bike, orientiiring, picking underwood products and above all you can have a real contact with nature in this small angle of uncontaminated Paradise. ... more   less
