This is how high end hotels should be - exactly what you thought it would be (if you can find it). The entrance is secret just like a Bond villain’s hide out. It is clean, safe, well mapped out and the facilities are fantastic. What stands out for me are two things. One the staff’s attitude - everything is taken care of or it’s a leave it with us can do attitude. The staff are well trained, eloquent, polite but at the same time fun. Some times staff in places like this can be stiff or just not good enough, it’s different here. They don’t burden you with details and excuses. They remember you party by name and all your requests. The other point is the small things are done very well. The rooms have FRESH fruit, ice, bottled water, TVs and telephones work. There is no dust, rust or broken fixtures. The AC is silent and the showers are powerful. The decor is old school and part of the charm. Not like these other fancy places that are just all a copy and past of each other. The drinks and food are fantastic. They seem to invest in local here. Local talent, products, services and food. Of course you can get your burgers and fries but they promote their own first which is needed. Finally the elephant in the room. It is very expensive. Try to find out all the room sizes and go with the one that suits you. Like most places they have a tendency to offer the most expensive option when there may be a cheaper one. As a person of colour You would be surprised how many high end hotels are not accommodating, even in black majority countries. I had that experience in Montego Bay Jamaica. This seems to be an inclusive place that celebrates its roots and heritage.…
My wife and I came here for six nights as our first big trip after covid, and Goldeneye did not disappoint. Original room we booked was sold out, but the hotel upgraded free of charge. Eventually settled on one of the Lagoon Cottages, which was fantastic. The cottages aren't too close to one another, but are also conveniently located near everything. The best part about this place is the lack of crowds: no fighting for chairs, no waiting for drinks or heading out early to try to get a table. It was a totally stress free environment, and Goldeneye does a great job of being luxurious and well staffed without having the feeling that someone is always hovering over you. Needless to say, the beaches and facilities are fantastic. A few of the reviews complain about the food being repetitive, but we were pleasantly surprised at the really high quality of everything we ate. They mix up dinner enough to keep it interesting, and we didn't have a bad meal the entire time we were there. You can also order from a few local places that will deliver to the resort (Chris' Cafe was a great meal). The cocktails were fantastic (the Goldeneye in particular), but everything is a little pricey. I highly recommend stopping on the way from the airport to grab some beer and wine (which was far and away the most overpriced item we saw). There are small fridges in every room, so it's easy to keep a few Red Stripes and some snacks in there. I'll close in saying this: I'm not a big fan of beach resorts. I've always preferred to be DOING something on a vacation. But this was the first beach hotel I've visited where I found myself already making plans to go back...…
Stayed just 4 nights at the end of a 9 night holiday in various corners of Jamaica. Easily our favourite resort closely after its sister hotel Strawberry Hill. Super laid back, not the least bit pretentious & the food & beverage is reasonably priced & of a good standard. You have all you need here: beautiful beaches, numerous pools, comp water sports (sup/kayak) & warm, friendly hospitality. Our beach hut was small & perfectly formed, quite simple but it had everything we needed & the bed/linen was luxurious. This is easily the most we’ve ever spent on a hotel ‘room’ esp in high season in Feb. But it was my 40th & my husband was a huge Bond fan so we splurged. Check out their website for slightly cheaper offers than going through the usual booking sites, you could save a lot given the average nightly rate. We were lucky enough to have a spy into the Fleming villa whilst their long staying guest vacated for a couple days. Such a treat! Don’t be afraid to ask at reception.…
Goldeneye is a place you talk about forever. It's magical in so many ways and the staff are so genuine and helpful. You receive an authentic Jamaican vibe with lots to explore and countless activities. We throughly enjoyed the food and drinks. We selected a new place each day to enjoy the beach and water. Loved Goldeneye!
It was experience like no other. This place is so beautiful and thought through. Anywhere you look, there is just something extra that shows incredible care and appreciation for the beautiful nature. The staff is wonderful. The food is fresh and authentic. The huts are so well maintained and have the most comfortable beds out of any hotel I’ve ever been to. Its definitely a place of endless awe. Pure joy.
Golden Eye is such a magical place! Nestled between the sea & lagoon there's just so much to do with this resort! We spent a week at Golden Eye & it was nothing short of magical. It was such a unique & magical place, unlike any other luxury resort we have visited. We stayed in the 2bR beach villa with our 3 year old & it was the perfect location. Beautiful private beach area, amazing views of the ocean, sleep to the sound of the waves, sea turtles on the beach a night. It was incredible!!! The outdoor shower was sooo nice & the room was so spacious & private. We loved snorkelers cove & the lagoon too for snorkeling, lots of fish, found a live conch, lots of snails & hermit crabs. Our daughter loved every adventure every day. The 2 pools are great & often very quiet & relaxing with gorgeous ocean breeze & views. The sunsets are UNREAL!!! Pink & orange skies!!! The staff is remarkable!!! Everyone is soooo friendly & sweet & willing to help with anything u may need. Donald at button beach was the sweetest & Fiona the concierge was incredible. She set us up for a boat day to Duns River & snorkeling & we had a blast. The special dinners they put on were amazing! BBQ night & the buffet dinners left nothing to be desired. So yummy 😋 They had a DJ a few nights & a live reggae band & performance for Jamaica Independence Day which was so cool!!! We never wanted to leave! The only thing that could be improved are the lunch menus they were a bit repetitive. Food is pricey in the resort! So get ready for that! We went during covid so we couldn't venture out for any meals. My daughter has a gluten allergy so that makes it harder for us, so we always bring lots of snacks and food for her. They even cooked her some gluten-free pasta I had brought which was so nice. The highlight of the trip was the turtle release which is near by with Oracabessa Bay Sea turtle rescue, Mel Tennant is making a huge difference in the hawksbill sea turtle species. We loved every minute 🐢💞 We can not wait to return to Golden Eye!…
This resort is nothing like anything else we have ever experienced. Not only is it quaint and surrounded by gardens, the property is quite large including a couple of pools, a couple of beaches, the lagoon and much more. Shout-out to the staff at Button Beach, our favourite hang out. That would be Nardia & Conroy at the bar and grill and Donald for “wata” sports. Everyone at Golden Eye is approachable and friendly. I am especially touched by the efforts of ownership to give to the community through the Golden Eye Foundation and to restore the coral in the vicinity of the ocean shoreline. We hope to visit again soon!
Had a really beautiful stay here for two nights recently. The best parts was the incredible location, the great rooms and the plethora of activities! We particularly enjoyed snorkeling with Marlan who went above and beyond to show us around the coral reefs nearby and the great conservation efforts that are undergoing at Oracabessa. Our only quibble was that service wasn't quite as good as other Jamaican resorts we have stayed at but overall it was a fantastic stay!
We stayed 4 nights in March. We had a Beach Hut. At first I wasn't sure walking up, thinking it was going to feel small. It was not. We had a lovely little balcony that would have been great to have an afternoon nap except that it was either too hot or the padding was too wet as it rained most nights we were there. There is not much of a breeze because we were surrounded by vegetation. The bed was sooooo comfortable. Definitely need bug spray, which they did provide around the resort. The ground were lovely and my husband enjoyed his daily walks around the resort. There are two pools. One by the main bar/restaurant and one near the beach huts. But again it was so hot at that pool with no breeze. I never saw anyone use it. The only complaint I would have is that the menu did not change at all while we were there. They did have a night where they served Jamaican food that was located on the grounds. The downfall of it was there was not enough lighting, I like to see what I am eating lol. My husband has always wanted to stay here and I am glad we did. I would return but not in a Beach Hut. Being a cat lover, I appreciated how well they take care of their resident cats.…
We are just back from a 7 night stay at Goldeneye and I can truly say it’s one of the most unique experiences I have ever had on vacation. Goldeneye is a tranquil, beautiful oasis with lovely beaches and beautiful coves to experience. The staff are exceptional - from Nicholas and Milton at the Bizot Bar, Lacey-Ann at Shabeen, to the numerous people looking after you at lunch and dinner, not to mention Romaine looking after in room dining. Everyone treats you like family, and you leave feeling like you’ve almost been staying with an extended bunch of friends, rather than at a resort. You’re well taken care of, nothing is too much of an ask for the staff at Goldeneye. We stayed in a beach hut with dune room which looked out onto the ocean (hut number 47), where you could sit on the veranda watching the sunset and watch the waves. It was a truly peaceful experience. All that said, Goldeneye has some things to be aware of: 1. Our trip was booked through a travel agent, who paid for our airport transfers up front. On checking my bill after departing, I notice that we’ve been charged for the transfers again. We’d also booked under the previous 2021 special rate where we got $100 a day credited to our room. When we checked out I saw that we were getting the 2022 rate where we were credited $500 for the entire stay ($200 less). Luckily we were able to at least fix that before paying the bill. 2. The food at the resort is expensive. I read on the website that it’s possible to arrange all-inclusive, but if you don’t you could easily be spending $400-$500 a day for a couple on meals and drinks. 3. The downside of the beauty of Goldeneye’s nature is that there are insects. The resort supplies mosquito repellant spray and cartridges for the room, but you will still get some mosquito bites. And you may also see other nature like cockroaches in your bathroom (we had a couple of encounters during our stay). It’s the price you pay for staying in the middle of such beautiful nature I guess. Our Beach Hut with Dune Room was great - the Dune Room is downstairs in the open air, but shaded to keep the sun out, it has space to eat meals as well as a fridge and sink, but the real star of the Dune Room is the outdoor shower and claw foot bathtub. Being able to shower or take a bath under a canopy of palm trees was an experience! Goldeneye is a resort like nothing else I’ve ever experienced, I hope we’ll be back again soon.…
